  1. I see multi-2D is very popular, yet I am confused about -- 2D could 17-24 4-4-4-1 or weak 2 Then, is it a overlap with weak 2H/2S? Can someone give a systematic explaination or recommend some link? Best, marmot101
  2. Another awkard hand to bid --> South SAKJ10x Hxx D- CAKxxxx After reading "2 suits openning" in 2/1 forum, I decide to start with my club suit, then rebid spade twice to show this fabulous hand. Both Vulnerable. However, South West North East 1C - 1D 1S! following is really awkard -- X - 2C - 2S - 2NT - 3C - 4C - 5C - - - Q1. After partner's 2C, I know club is our trump. Since my hand has only 4 losers, I am quite comfortable to go 5C, if pd has second control in heart, and some points, slam is within reach. How can I pass this information to partner and start cue-bid? My partner's hand is: SQ HKxx DAJ10xx CQJxx Q2. Is 2C is too weak for this hand? What's his choice in second bid? Q3. If East didn't overcall, what's a good bidding sequence? ================================================ My thoughts -> This is a hand best fit for "fast bidding". A clear bidding sequence definitely will incur a nastly heart lead. Just don't know what is the fast track for this hand ;)
  3. After reading your guys analysis, I feel better B) Every time, when I have this kind of thin slam, I see most BBO players go for it. A question to you guys: what percentage do you feel comfortable to try a slam? For me, my line is 50%. If it is less than 50%, I won't try. How do you think? Thanks!
  4. I am overwhelmed with so many replies! B) Thanks all. 2C - 2D(waiting) 2S - ? I am new to 2D-waiting, according to Hrothgar, so here 2NT is balanced shape, positive; 3C is weak? If South bid 2NT, is there any hope N-S can find out club fit? Best Regards, marmot101
  5. North: SAJ10xx HAK DAJ10x CAQ Bidding is --> North East South West 2C - 2D(wait) - 2S - 3C - ? Q1. should North sign off at 3NT or continue pushing to 4C and seek possibility of 6C? Q2. For this type of hand, if North bid 3NT, should south push? Q3. Following is south's hand, if north push to 6, between 6C and 6NT, which one would you pick? ============================================== South: Sxx HQxx DQxx CKJxxx
  6. Thanks for you two's reply! :) The answer is quite clear and logical. 1. Just after learning 4sf & nmf, you understand that they will spring out of my mind as first thing! :-[ I do play 2H jump shift, but not Soloway jumpshift. 2. I ask whether this hand worths bidding slam because -- I think it is quite a marginal one. But the fact is: at BBO, 6 out of 10 tables go to 6H, another one 6NT, which makes me can't help doubting myself: am I too conservative in bidding?! Best Regards, marmot101
  7. North: SAKxx Hxx DK109x CQxx South: Sxx HAKQxxx DA8x CA6 Question: should N-S bid 6H with this hand? If bid, what's a good bidding sequence? I am not satifisfied with mine (south) N S 1D 1H 1S 2C (4th suit force) 2NT 3H 3NT - Thanks for your help!
  8. Thanks, Luke. That's the original version of Jacoby I read of. But in another book, the author thinks only asking shortness is not that helpful, and suggests descriptive-bid instead of shortness-showing. The thing intrigues me is: if there are different versions, and lots of players at BBO claim to play Jacoby, how do they know which version pard use? B) Misunderstanding at 3 or 4 level could be disaster!
  9. Most players claim they play Jacoby 2NT, yet many variantions exist -- * Ask for short * Ask for description of hand * ... What's the most popular variation now? Can anyone give some explaination? Thanks! marmot101
  10. Thanks for all your help! They are very good advice. Best, marmot101
  11. What's a good bidding sequence for this slam? South: SAKJ10xxx HK DKQx Cxx North: SQx Hxxx DAxx CAKJ10x South West North East 1S - 2C - 3S - ? what should North do here? if 4S, South may pass. If not show spade support, do what? He has SQ, DA, CAK these 4 key cards, is there any good way to show it?
  12. Thanks, Rado! That's helpful explaination. Best Regards, marmot101
  13. Thanks for explaination! First, it is the actual hand I just played the day before yesterday :) It is 1-6-3-3 shape, which deprived me of 2NT rebid >B) Second, 1H - 1S - 3H, what's the point range for this 3H in 2/1 system? My impression is it should be at least as strong as reverse (16+). Is that right? Last, I don't worry too much about missing a game or slam. As an ameteur player, I think Hardy's system is good enough for me ::) Precision requires too much memory for me ;D
  14. I hold: Sx HAKJxxx DAQx CAxx open 1H, partner 1S, what shall I bid? 3H or 3D? I choose 3H, and partner pass, actually, he had 8HCP, we are cold in 4H. And he argued that 3H is just invitation. In Max Hardy's book, jump shift is 19+. Since I only have 3 diamond, should I jump shift or just jump? What's the range for opener's jump? Thanks for your help!
  15. I see a lot of players on BBO play UDCA instead of traditional signal. Who can give a comparision of these two? Why people prefer UDCA? To me, it is just confusing -- against intuitive :o Thanks.
