My partner and I are looking for teammates for the Roth Teams (two-day NABC+ final weekend). We are a new partnership; with a different partner, I've made the finals of NABC+ team events twice in my last three tries and I think he's slightly better than I am. I can be reached by e-mail at AFxxx157@gmail.com if you replace xxx with 121. A few things which probably don't matter, but... we are both middle-aged men, play a 2/1 approach, from the Boston area. (This was originally posted in the wrong forum, sorry. Any admins who want to delete the original are welcome to.)

adf started following VPN vs BBO and Roth Teams Toronto 2011

I connect to my work computer via a VPN (from Aventail). It works fine. Sometimes I play BBO. That works fine too (and is more fun). However, I cannot connect to BBO if I am already connected to my VPN. Is there anything I can do differently to try to get them to be happy together? If not, is there anything BBO is likely to do to help me? If neither, at least more people know about the problem now and can suggest it to others who might be unable to connect.

http://www.bridgebase.com/help/3/tdo.html appears to be documenting an earlier version of the software.

I agree with the inference, but as far as the play, it's better to just lock in dummy with a ♥. Declarer will now play towards his presumed King and you can now get all your winners for at least +2000, more if you know partner has a pointed ten.

Pass seems clear with three tricks in my own hand. The void is not a problem for me, as partner probably expects it. In a situation where avoiding disaster was paramount (e.g., a short match against a weak team), I might pull, but even then I'd go for 3♦.

This issue has come up with users of the software that my company develops. We may eventually modify the software, but in the mean time have discovered that there is also plenty of software to do screen magnification, including a minimal feature built into recent Microsoft Windows OS's.

Perhaps the terminology might be changed. "Friends" continues to work the way it does now, but there is a new category called "Partners." They show up at the beginning of the online list, after yellows and friends, but no popup when they sign on. An alternative would be to continue with just "Friends" but have a bunch of checkboxes: [ ] Notify on signon [ ] Allow in "friends-only" events [ ] Show at beginning of player list

A nice related feature would be to show actual planned starting times according to one's local time zone (or even UCT and let us convert), rather than just "103 minutes" or "in a few days." If one wants to make advance plans with a partner, this can be very helpful.

I agree that this is not a 2NT call. With two aces, it can't be weak, and if you consider it strong, you need to reopen with a double, which is a substantial overbid. Partner will pass happily with Kxxx KQJ xxx xxx which is not likely to be a good result.

I went down in 4♥ the other day. After reviewing the movie, I eventually decided the hand wasn't interesting enough to post. But certainly some hands are worth posting and it would be nice to be able to do a Save/As in the movie viewer (either the one embedded in the web app or the standalone one) to get a hand in the proper format to paste into a post on these forums. Other formats would also be welcome, such as RTF, HTML, and plain text. I know that BBO teachers tourney hosts can upload predealt hands for their events; it would be good to be able to save in a format to facilitate reusing hands in that fashion as well.

When my partner and I want to play together in a tournament, we register as a partnership. But when we want to play in a club, we need to synchronize clicking on the same table. How about allowing us to hook up, then one of us could click South and teleport the other to North?

Suggestion for Vugraph broadcast program
adf replied to flyingware's topic in Suggestions for the Software
I'll start with a general request on channels--please do it right, not rush in. I would like to request that when channels are implemented, it be possible to listen to more than one simultaneously. I would like to be able to listen (and contribute) on an open kibbitzers' channel, but not to miss the main commentary. I also think that channels should have some features that already exist for tourneys and clubs--namely, an owner who can either restrict membership based on friendship or explicit permission, and who can kick people off or mute them. Also, have you (Uday & Fred) considered hooking up something like Babelfish to provide automated translation of commentary? It might need some customization for this environment, but if there are only a couple of words which come out funny, readers could probably get used to it. Maybe this could be used for all chat. A couple of days ago, I was playing against a pair who were chatting heavily in a language which I couldn't read. I trusted that they were not cheating, but would have liked to see what they had to say. With regard to chat to friends and the spam issue, what if that feature only delivered the message to people who reciprocated the friendship? That is, not only are they on your friends list, but you are also on their friends list. Perhaps if you are in VuGraph, it would send only to friends watching the same table. -
How about a message box which pops up when a new person joins the table, asking the host if s/he wants to reset the score? If you wanted to be a bit more complicated, and please more people, include "Always" and "Never" buttons as well as "Yes" and "No." As a kibbitzer, I have sometimes been frustrated when the score is reset and I can't see the movie for a recent hand.

Another function to help choose with VG to watch
adf replied to Deanrover's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Many years ago, my friend Stew (then a grad student) did just that. Of course, his week had only six of these expanded days.
