  1. After a 1d overcall of 1c the experts say that double shows 4 cards in both majors which I recommend but can't always get my partners to do it (they keep doubling with 4-3 in the majors which is bad (say all the experts). However if the overcall is at the 2 level like your 1c-2d then the experts think you havent enough room to insist on both majors and many freely play it as showing at least one major (even 4-2 is ok.This is what needs discusion -If after 1c-2d-D-p-2s , reponder must confirm by raising and if he makes a non forcing bid he does not have spades. In your auction I play a cue bid by south of 3d shows a limit raise in clubs (admitedly interested in nt but tending to deny a 4 card major or else showing a gameforce hand which you don't quite have .You could bid 2nt to show a stopper in diamonds and a 10-12 hcp hand in which case opener may pass but if he accepts the invitation he must show heart suit by bidding 3hts .THis is what you must discuss, you might want to have 3hts showing a stopper and worrying about spades. If thats the case then you want responder to make a negative double with a 4 card major and have 2n tend to deny a 4 card major. Regards Stuart
  2. I like 3hts as Al says, its like 2h after 1h-2d-2h not necessarily shwing 6hts and 2n would show stoppers in unbid suits. But otherwise you might try 3n as a descriptive bid,its hard to see many hands shich can force to game without something in clubs given your hand.Stuart
  3. Well I clicked the back arrow on my browser a few times and the message i was posting was still there so that solves that problem. How do you subscribe to a forum ? What is a member? Those still need answers .Thanks,Stuart
  4. If you open in 4th and declare it,you have to make for it to pay (you could have passed. There is also a difference between hts and spades. With spades you are supposed to get into an auction with 5 or 6 spades with as little as 8 or 9 points. But if you have that little maybe one spade hedges your bet even with 6 spades. But if partner then bids 1nt forcing you would have to bid 2s (you wouldn't pass 1n with 9pts and 6 spades or would you?). Well basically I open 2M in 4th with 12-14Hcp and 6M instead of 1M-2M when I think there is no game opposite partners 11hcp with an outside 5card suit .Stuart
  5. I post to 2/1 forum once in a while.Lately a dialogue box warns me I should check here or I will be logged off for being away from the keyboard.I click and then my message disappears . Also in the control box I see I am not subscribed to any forums.what does that mean. How do you subscribd? thanks Stuart
  6. :) sorry I meant bid 6h or blackwood after his 4h
  7. 3s is right then if partner bids 4h I would pass ,he shouldnt with extras,if he bids 4c ,bid 4d (3s is game force) and then if he bids 4h ,bid blackwood or 5h.
  8. There is a new CD by Kraft and Kokish which might be very good.I haven't seen it but they write for Bridgeworld and are experts at bidding. Hardy's last works -Standard Bidding in the 21st century and Advanced bidding in the 21st century are worth a look except they play 2/1 always forcing to game but off in competition .Regards StuartMN :)
  9. Sorry I got it wrong. After 1d-1h-2h 5h does ask about hearts.I forgot that 2c had not been bid.I play 2/1 and would bid 2c over 1d with a game forcing hand.In your auction after 2h I would bid 2s to see what partner does If he rejects your game try by biding 3h then you bid 4c and partner knows that you have a slam try with extras ( otherwise you would sign off in game after partner rejects even a game try).
  10. This is going too fast.Over prtners 2H ,you should bid 2S and see what he does. Also I would take your 5H bid as asking for a spade control (the unbid suit).
