  1. Gelukkige verjaardag Helene! :P
  2. I am also having connection problems today. My internet connection is stable, but bbo sometimes just disconnects..and it takes a while before I can reconnect. During 2nd disconnection I checked to see if I could tracert the bbo IP address: C:\Users\Gert>tracert 69.93.3.164 Tracing route to bridgebase02.bridgebase.com [69.93.3.164] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms ********* 2 7 ms 23 ms 12 ms d5152B001.access.telenet.be [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] 3 20 ms 10 ms 10 ms dD5E0FCD1.access.telenet.be [213.224.252.209] 4 10 ms 8 ms 8 ms dD5E0FD5D.access.telenet.be [213.224.253.93] 5 9 ms 9 ms 8 ms dD5E0FDC1.access.telenet.be [213.224.253.193] 6 9 ms 13 ms 8 ms te3-2.ar1.NLD1.ANT1.gblx.net [64.215.184.29] 7 150 ms 148 ms 149 ms The-Planet.GigabitEthernet7-3.ar2.DAL2.gblx.net [64.208.170.198] 8 149 ms 146 ms 158 ms te7-2.dsr01.dllstx3.theplanet.com [70.87.253.10] 9 148 ms 149 ms 149 ms 76.fd.5746.static.theplanet.com [70.87.253.118] 10 161 ms 148 ms 150 ms vl1.car02.dllstx6.theplanet.com [12.96.160.23] 11 148 ms 150 ms 149 ms bridgebase02.bridgebase.com [69.93.3.164] Trace complete. But I still wasn't able to connect at that moment.
  3. This is my major concern. And I guess if you'll try to play in 4M every time you have a weak doubleton, you'll end up with too many bad boards and too few plusses. But if you only try to play in 4-3/5-2 fits - on hands where you've got extras, around 28-30 HCP - on hands where you're 5-card M suit is really good - etc.. you should end up with better results overall? Basically, on margin hands, you'll play in 3NT like others. I guess the study didn’t' take the above into account?
  4. Well once you upgrade your hand, then you'll continue to bid upon this. Otherwise you should have just given partner the chance to bid after 1♣-1♦-1♠. He can even have some 5-card fit and 4♠ might make. I agree that you should upgrade this hand, so I'll just rebid 1NT now.. waiting for partner to bid that miraculous 2♥ transfer B). The K&R Hand Evaluator also shows this hand qualifies as a 19-21NT.
  5. Both N and S are minimum and balanced. This time 4♠ would have made.. but even 3♠ could have gone down. You shouldn't judge bidding by results. You should even be happy not going to 4♠ on this hand B). Opps might have won on this board, but if you bid other hands as solid as you did here, opponents will run out of luck and I'm sure you'll be the winner overall.
  6. I think partner needs a lot if we wanna make 3NT. And as this hand is too balanced I will just pass. Maybe we missed game.. but that's why people preempt.
  7. Last weak I read about the following NT structure: 2♣ = stayman, 2♦/♥ = trf (at least 4-card), 2♠ min/max, etc But what makes this system different, is that responder and opener are able to show a weakness in a side-suit (when GF situation): - Responder has about 3-ways to ask/show 4-card M, showing each time a different weakness, to be able to play in 4-3 fit. - Responder can show if his 5-card M suit is good enough to play in 5-2 fit, when opener has a weakness responder doesn't cover. But I'd like to know what others think of this. Do you think it's better to just stayman/trf and blasting to 3NT, like everyone else, hoping to make? Or do you think that, overall, you will get better results with this system. And does it make a difference if you were playing MP or IMPs?
  8. Hi Fred After one of the previous versions was releases, I reported it wasn't possible to log in with a username containing a whitespace. This still doesn't seem to be fixed. When I try to log in, the program shows some error messages. Maybe you looked over it last time, so I'll report it again.
  9. thanks all B) the Belgian beers were just fine!!
  10. Happened to me as well yesterday evening. Internet was still running, but couldn't connect to the bbo-server.
  11. Your account wasn't activated yet, it is now. When you log in again, you wil notice some changes in the interface. Click on the FD symbol to download the corresponding system.
  12. click on movie, and then there you can load .lin files
  13. I think something just went wrong with a claim. I was declarer, LHO lead a diamond, and then I claimed all last 3 tricks.. but actually I conceded last 3 tricks (opps of course accepted). Maybe I missclicked.. but I don't believe so.. maybe someone can try to recreate a similar situation and see what happens.
  14. another funny bug: when dummy I can still still play my own cards!!
  15. Another bug: For some reason you can't log in with a username containing a space.
  16. I mentioned in my post that autosplinter with diamonds is a plausible alternative.. but I meant that at the table nothing else made sense to me than a 6-5 hand.
  17. When the tray came back to me.. I thought 3S could have only been with a 6-5 hand. Why would you else take away so much bidding space? As 2S over 2H would have been clearly forcing. I agree that with 6-5 one can still bid 2S, and rebid S the next round. But still other alternatives than 6-5 don't make much sense to me. Partner had a lot of C raises avaiable the previous round so splinter with C support seems unlikely. I don't see why one would jump to 3S with only a 5-4 hand? The only reasonable thing left to me is an autosplinter with diamonds. But as I didn't even consider this at the table, I bid 4H over 3S with: Kx xxxx AKQxx Kx Partner did have a 6-5 hand with even a heart void, but he thought he had only shown a 5-4 hand.. so he jumped to 5S. I correct to 6D which made as S splitted 3-3 if I remember well.. imps to the good guys..the other table went somehow one down in 4S :(
  18. Thanks for reporting. I think the problem is fixed (hopefully without messing up something else).
  19. Site has been updated and you can try a test version out at: http://downagain.sin.khk.be/FDNEW Changed: - constructive option added - change-button removed: now when you change an option, the filter and page will be reloaded - recursive option is now also located at the top (filter bar) - you can now use the 1st column (=bidding) to navigate back or further in the bidding, and when you hover a bid you will also see an explanation of that bid - error that dbl shows 0♦s fixed I hope that some will try it out and let me know if they encounter any problems. If everything seems to work smoothly I will replace the actual website with this test version. I also started with the print function. But the problem is that most browsers don't handle CSS well. Suppose you have 8 possible responses after a particular bidding. Then I think it would be better that those 8 answers are shown at 1 page.. and not split over 2 pages if they don't fit at the end of a page. That seems to work with Opera but not with IE or Firefox. Do you think that's not really important? Or does someone maybe know an easy workaround?

  21. I like this structure. When you make pass forcing, 4th hand can calmly pass. That's why a non-forcing pass seems better to me. I also would put ugly 4333 hands or so in 1NT-(dbl)-pass, because usually you won't get to a better place to play. You can even put strong hands in it. The general meaning of pass is then: "I think it's best to play 1N dbled". And if opps run, you can bid on showing a strong hand. So XX van become either weak, no 5-card suit, or invitational strength.
