Are you kidding? Since 2004 I was trying to get approval (or at least reasons for disapproval) for 2 diamonds pre-emptive openning showing 5 cards spade and 5 card in unknown suit. Of cause I submit full description of method and sugessted deffence. The last reply from 03/02/2007 was: "The Committee has consistently rejected this conventional treatment. They have stated that they are not adding any weak agreement at this time. Some changes in the ACBL MidChart may occur as early as next year. Please be patient. Respectfully, Richard F. Beye" Now I am sending my proposal 5th time.

Hi, Because every players in money bridge tournament plays different boards there is no easy way (at least I can not see it) for player after tournament see boards his competitors played. But is it possible to add in a result list, after tournament is over 2 more columns: - number of boards played by each player; - average point count for NS line for each player? Of cause it is not only interesting stats, but I believe it is easest to collect. Thanks.
-
Sorry, I am also do not understand, why on misclick you can't just tell opponents all your cards - will be able to do what they need to do even more accurately. B) If you forgot to alert agreement which required alerting, you need to alert opponent - comletely agree, no questions. But there is no bridge law and no logical reason why misclics should be alertable.

My guess was correct  3 ♠ bid could be request to partner bid 3NT if he has ♥. Opener had ♦, expected partner to have ♣ stopper and strong hand after double and thought 3NT could have a reasonable chanses. I am sure it is a bad idea, but bad bidders sometimes get lucky.

Thanks for useful advice. Could I use your phone between sessions during the Las Vegas national? ;)
-
Of cause absence of cell phone during the session is not an issue. Point is - a lot of people do not stay in the host hotel. For example during the San Francisco national I stayed in San Bruno (~1 hour trip). Cell phone ban would give me a choice to be without phone all day long or to lose time before session to give my phone; to lose time after the session tio receive it back; take a risk that they lose my phone and someone will have access to private information stored there and on top of everything to pay them for keeping my phone. None of these choises are acceptable for me. Real choises are: stay in the host hotel or ignore national.

probabilities calculators
olegru replied to olegru's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Of cause, calculators will not do the bridge work for you – you need to use your judgment to estimate probability. Purpose is to make a connection between expected bridge results and estimated profit or loss. -
My friend Rudolf Ioffe (BBO nickname levig) made some bridge calculators (in excel) to estimate based on probabilities the expected results of a different decisions during the game and would like to share them. I believe these calculators could be very useful for players of beginner/intermediately level and for bridge teachers. His website is http://rudioffe.weebly.com. If you have any questions about calculator you can ask him or me.

No blaming of cause :) Sorry if my post sounded like that. I am sure your suggestion is right, and director's thoughts were along that lines. Problem is directors’ decisions like that they are: 1. Contradict the bridge law; 2. Do not match the ethic standards for directing; 3. Make not so educated in bridge people take a wrong view about the bridge law and bridge game. Hmm. Just curiose. According what law from the bridge code "Playing without agreements is not bridge"?
-
I did :) She reply adjustment was made her co-director Tony and it is up to him to adjust or adjust back. She didn't reply about his BBO nick name and I was not able to speak with him directly. I assumed you are that mysterious Tony, my sincere apologies if I was wrong. I completely agree with the rest of your comment here except I am sure 3 clubs bid was NOT alterable there.

What was it then, a misclick? No. It was just a one bid available for me. I know I will finally bid 6 or 7 diamonds. I don’t know if hearts or diamonds bid of any level will be forcing for my partner. We have no agreements about splinters. (Remember, I just join as a substitute and have absolutely no ideas what is my partner’s style and how educated in bridge he is. I don’t even know if we are playing 2 over 1 or not.) New suit without jump in this bidding must be forcing. I can not bid spades because partner could later correct final diamond contract to spades. What left? Direct jump to 6 or 7 diamonds or temporary 3 clubs and see what happened. Oh, sorry, I forgot about Blackwood. :) OK, let see. 4NT just a plain stupid. Partners reply give me no useful information at all 7 diamond – wild. 6 diamond – too modest. Even worse because it could induce opponents to bid 6 spades. 3 clubs at least will be lead directing if opponents will sacrifice in spades. You can call 3 clubs bid lead directing or tactical. If you are really like you can call it even a psyche bid but truth is it is a normal bridge bid made to increase chances to win. I am sure in described circumstances it will be not a last choice for a number of a good players.
-
Alerts for agreements not for cards. I didn't claim anything because nobody bothered to ask me any questions before make an adjustment. At very least director must ask us about meaning of bidding before ajust anything based on asumpted misinformation. I do not want to continue infinity thread about "no psyche game" (which simply is not a bridge game) but this particular bid is not even a psyche. Do opponents have rights to ask for adjustment if anybody will bid NT without stopper? Will give 2 cards support? Will make a false cue bid? Will bid 7 knew about missing Ace?

Hi Tony, I guess grand slams on your tournament banned too? Seriously, first time ever, I decided to log off during the tournament. http://online.bridgebase.com/myhands/fetch...ayed=1211938281 I came to tournament as a substitute current round. No bidding discussed. Bidding: 1h -pass - 2d - pass 3c - pass - 4NT - pass 7d - dbl - all pass My hand s. x h. AKQxxxx d. K10xxx c. - Clubes lead, made 13. No questions from TD, but result adjusted 7d -1 without any notice or explanation. Any ideas why?
-
Just curious, what bad bridge players are you talking about? :P Seriously, it is not a convention for limited chart of I/N games, not even for General chart. It is mid chart convention. If any player is decided to play in Mid chart tournament, does't he/she at least pretend to be an expert. It is not always the case, of cause, but if someone decided to play on level he does not belong to, I see no reason to limit everybody else. I believe if we are talking about mid chart convention (and convention is in the mid chart) all arguments about possible problems of bad players should be completely out.

Sorry for off-top. Very painul topic for me. Starting 2004 I am trying to get ACBL approval for my favourite toy: 2 diamonds preempt showing 5 spades and 5 unknown. Last reply was: Forgot to say, it was February last year.
-
Will keep it with me, sorry. On silent or turned off, doesn't matter. My phone is cheap and I don't need it during the game of cause, but I never stay in the host hotel, I need my phone before and after sessions and I don't want to spend centuries between sessions getting my cell phone from some temporary storing place.

Probably I was not clear enogh. There is no problem for kid to play in the open game. He is not good enogh to feel the difference. It is problem for open game if kid will play there and results from one of the tables will be completely random. It should not be such a big problem for a limited games there random results is very common.

I have funny experience with limited game. During the NABC in NY (2004) I asked if I can play in I/N game with my 6 year old son. Of cause my concern was that boy having just a very few ideas how to play will create too many ridicules results and corrupt game for other participants. Answer was NOT. We can’t play because … I have too many masterpoints. But we can play in Open :) PS Now my 10 year old son does not ask me to play bridge anymore.

TD fails to adjust board, I was damaged
olegru replied to MomoTheDog's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
It is an easy case for EW side. Even if West didn't ask about 2♣ oppening assuming it is strong and artificial, he must understand it is not the case after bidding went 2♣ - pass - 3♣ - pass - pass. He must defend his side and ask before the final pass. No any ajustment for EW if director was invited after West passed the second time. Harder for NS. I assume they didn't post CC, if they did - no panishment. If they didn't no ajustment until regulation rules for particular tournaments were posted and regulation clearly indicated that: - 2♣ precision should be alerted, or - system should be anounced, or - particular system will be assumed until convention card posted. -
You are completely right, there is no any deviation of law. Lets just make up an experiment. You are my partner. We really have no agreements about this bidding. What kind of hands could you have: a. Gamblingish asking for ♥ stopper b. Strong hand without direction asking for ♥ stopper c. ♠ + minor two-suiter d. ♦+♣ two-suiter. Even if I am lucky enogh to figure out based on my hand that 3NT should be an easy contract You don't know I know it. If we have no firm agreement about meaning of redouble You can take it as a SOS with 50% probability. At least I would definitly take redouble as a SOS here. (Notice: it is BAM - 3NT doubled probably enogh to win the board) And I simply can't imaging pair who have no agreement for such a basic situation as (2♥) - 3♥ but has agrement about redouble here. No problem in terms of bridge law, but very funny decision in terms of bridge game.
-
Fantastic! Person has no ideas about his partners bid meaning but he knows enogh to redouble! Let me guess. They have no agreement about redouble too? :)
-
1. 5d 2. 3h (Pass after 3NT, 4s - after 3s. 5m after 4m. I would prefer partner to declare on this board) 3. 1s 4. pass
-
1. hard. 3♣ - Partner, bid 3NT if you have stopper in clubs. Will run to 4♦ if 3NT fot doubled. 2. pass 3. 3♣ 4. 2♠. Invitation. 5. 2♠. 6. 3NT 7. 1♣ (Polish) :) 1♠ 8. ♠

Another disaster with a sub
olegru replied to helene_t's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
We can complain about East's 2♣ and 3♣ bids but let be honest - after his Partner oppened 1NT he is going to play slam and will bid it no matter what. His route was kind of confusing I would bid transfer 2♥ and 6♥ over 2♠ (Aces schmases) :) -
Lets put ous in the East shoes ♠ AK ♥ AT63 ♦ KJ63 ♣ AQ8 Partner oppened 1♠, after our 2♦ reply 2♥ and after RKCB without hesitation shows no keycards. Could it be? Yes ♠QJ, ♥QJ, ♦Q, ♣K is 11 points and he could opened with that hand. How many tricks I can see accross that hand? 5 in ♠ + 3 in ♣ + 2 in ♦ + Ace of ♥ = 11. Where are not bad chances for 12th trick and 6NT bid definitely make sence but someone can stop on the 5 level too. Now what happened in the real live. West hesitated befor reply 5♣. By his hesitation East has available unauthorised information. East can't be sure but he knows West had some problem with his bid. What kind of problem could it be? Or he has ♥K but doesn't sure 4NT is standard or key card or he has void in minor (probably ♦ ) and doesn't sure should he show it or not. In the both cases 6♥ call suggested. Yes, he does 100%. 5♥, 6NT. I believe so. So adjust to 5♥+1. I will not buy argument about East hand is too strong for 5♥ - 6NT is preferable than 6♥ without unauthorized information and he can bid 6NT avoid taking any advantage that might accrue to his side - if he wanted.
