  1. Regarding false preference. Would partner pass 2C on 5143 shapes ?
  2. Given the parameters of the question 3C is a GF so have to bid 2C. I like the example 9 count that mikeh posted that doesn't have a game.
  3. How do I hide behind a spoiler? I think you can ruff out the Ace clubs to perform a coup on North. In that line Souths cards are largely irrelevant except AKx Clubs and the assumed diamond void.
  4. Both defenders see all the remaining cards, so you can't work out which one has the danger card based on who objects. And they should decline anyway if your claim is unsound given any remaining permutation of cards held.
  5. I think this is a feature of match creation. The boards will have the designated number if you use them at other places in the system.
  6. Thanks smerriman for that explanation. So it is not broken logic at all. Gib is playing for the best long term MP score. I always feel Gib gets a lot of unwarranted criticism in the play. Quite often it's defence can be brutal against you. As humans we tend to notice when it goes badly wrong and don't make a fuss, or even notice at all where a switch gives it an extra trick. When you can see you are going down the advice would be to try and trick Gib, much as you might try to trick human opps into a mistake. Two side points. At IMPs you would cash the AK and not risk the slam making. In a typical MP human field there will always be people not bidding the slam. So that skews the odds towards safely setting the contract as well.
  7. If D are 4-2 or 3-3 there is no problem. But if you seek to improve the odds and test spades first it seems to me you could go down when D are 4-2 because you lose tempo. But it feels like doing something in spades is the right plan.
  8. 1NT. Blocks opponents more than 1D and if you win the contract you have something in all suits that is worth leading up to.
  9. If I've totted this up correctly North has doubled with a 5242 shape. Is that a normal bid?
  10. The login screen appears inaccessible. All I see is the top left of the usual splahscreen with no way to get to the screen where you enter your credentials. This is on a laptop with Chrome and also tried on a mobile device. Other areas of Bridgebase seem ok - Forums :), Hands. A friend who called me to alert me also has same issue. I am going to try different browsers. But the assumption for now is that it is a site issue.
  11. Thank you. We also had this Thursday evening and it has been driving us mad ever since wondering what we did different to previous times. Please can you advise when a decision has been made ?
  12. I like the look of Transfer Lebensohl. In general though, overcalling is easy with shape, and responding to partners t/o is also relatively easy with shape. You can always choose whether to overcall with a less than ideal shape, so that is a matter of partnership style. More problematic, and unavoidable, what does advancer do when weak to low intermediate with a balanced hand and is wishing partner hadn't overcalled ? (2S)-X-(P)-? (2S)-P-(P)-X-(P)-? Do you have any special sequences initiating some kind of up the line scramble (depends on how pure your t/o is) Are there any modern treatments that include a penalty element, like the original Hackett idea ? (I don't mean when a t/o, often in 4th seat, is converted to penalty)
