Can anybody calculate this?
Mr. Dodgy replied to bid_em_up's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
yeah, but that should be adequately compensated for by the fact that that it myself who is declarer reasonably often in these figures and should probably make 13 tricks far more often than I do :) -

I have just over 13000 of the hands I have played on BBO recorded: By declarer: 13 tricks: 310 times (~2%) 12 tricks: 951 times (~7%) 11 tricks: 1940 times (~15%) 10 tricks: 2632 times (~20%) 9 tricks: 2746 times (~21%) 8 tricks: 2084 times (~16%) 7 tricks: 1337 times (~10%) 6 tricks: 612 times (~5%) 5 tricks: 262 times (~2%) 4 tricks: 104 times (~1%) 3 tricks: 22 times 2 tricks: 4 times 1 trick: 0 times 0 tricks: 2 times passed out: 125 times (~1%) -

Thanks for all the replies :) Bonus Question: How do you feel about a start like this... 2♦*-2♥**-3♣***... *Multi: weak 6-card Major OR 20-21 balanced (theoretically some other VERY big balanced hands also start with 2♦) OR 21+ 3-suited. **Pass-or-Correct. Denies (9)10+ HCP. ***21+ 3-suited, short in ♦s or ♠s. Strictly speaking the opener should be 4441, not 5440. Continuations are not terribly well defined, general principle is that responder will bid paradoxically (short/bad suits) and opener natural, so 3♠ by responder then is probably next (implies at least tolerance for ♥s I suppose). Go on, laugh if you want, I did.

[hv=d=w&v=n&w=sjt9ha63d8432ckj3&e=sakq8hkqj75dcaq86]266|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Can you get to the grand? If the auction starts Pass-2♣!-2NT-3♥-4♥, is 5♦ EKCB? Thanks, Justin.

1 spades or 2 hearts as west
Mr. Dodgy replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I'd bid 2♦, then ?♠s. I play MCB as weak/strong. Partner is not going to get too carried away by my 'reverse' knowing that I can only have an intermediate (8-15 HCP) hand, and has a fair idea of my defensive strength to base competitive decisions on. -
close for me, first instinct is to pass but I don't mind 2♥ (is two-suited the way i play) - perhaps this is influenced by a dirty suspicion that I AM one of the "typical poor-to-average club players" :o

comments please on all of it
Mr. Dodgy replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
1NT OK, (1♣ planning to reverse into ♦s OK too). 2♠ - prefer 3♠ 2♥ - prefer 4♦ (Texas, to be followed by Kickback) -
Can I reverse?

13HCP + 6Controls + 13DP = 32 Z -> converts to approximately a good 16 / bad 17 by my reckoning. -
won at the club this monday (my only regular play) 65.18% over 27/30 boards. and a ~60% congress (54 boards?) a few weeks ago. I'm also now a State Champion: http://www.qldbridge.com/titles/display.php?code=grprsd D-Grade :D

missed another one
Mr. Dodgy replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
4♣ is a splinter. I don't think this hand is quite good enough for it, but I'd try 4♣ now if partner had bid ♥s, just 4♠ now. -
I'd open 2♦ ;)

http://users.tpg.com.au/adslhl2i//BBOdot.pdf something like this could be useful for TDs particularly.

In one online partnership I play my partner's scheme over ALL 1♣ openers, which starts with: Pass=any 12+ Double=0-11 with ♣s and ♠s 1♦=0-11 with ♦s and ♠s 1♥=0-11 with ♥s and ♠s 1♠=all hands not covered elsewhere (usually 4333) 1NT=0-11 with ♣s and ♦s 2♣=0-11 with ♣s and ♥s 2♦=0-11 with ♦s and ♥s 2NT=extreme two-suiter others=WJO This method was originally devised for use against Big Club opps and was derived from 'Lionel Wright', but works OK in any case, I think, despite comments otherwise from some... I play Suction (regular or TWERB, never really like Psycho) over 1NT in a number of partnerships both RL and virtual. I'd be interested to try/have comments on this as a strong 1♣ defence: Pass=0-7 (if 4-7, no 6-card suit) Double=any 16+ 1♦=5+♥s OR (4+/4+ ♠s AND ♣s) 1♥=5+♠s OR (4+/4+ ♦s AND ♣s) 1♠=5+♣s OR (4+/4+ ♦s AND ♥s) 1NT=non-touching 2-suiter ((♦s and ♠s) or (♣s and ♥s)) 2♣=5+♦s OR (4+/4+ ♥s AND ♠s) others=WJO 1♠ and 1NT could easily be reversed in meaning (TWERB style).

I voted easy 17, but I don't think is a good 17. Wow. I play this, but didn't think anyone else did. Most seem to like cuebidding or shortness trials here in my experience. However, assuming that a 2♥ bid the transfer to ♠s, I would rebid 2NT over it - superaccepting in NT shows the suit bid by responder in my system. Is this poor?

Early days yet for me, I hope - I've only started playing regularly in F2F competitions for about 5 months. 58.41%/54boards this past Sunday...my first congress win :) 62%/27boards at the club a few weeks ago.

I'm usually pretty good with numbers but this has me stumped...anyone care to try help me out? I'm using (slightly modified) Victory Points tables to award 'DodgyPoints' to players in certain of the tourneys I run on BBO. The table for a 24-board tourney is: IMPs VPs 0-3 15-15 4-9 16-14 10-14 17-13 15-19 18-12 20-24 19-11 25-29 20-10 30-34 21-9 35-39 22-8 40-45 23-7 46-51 24-6 52-57 25-5 58-64 26-4 65-71 27-3 72-79 28-2 80-87 29-1 88+ 30-0 and the results from one tourney were: Player IMP A 68 B 62 C 20 D 2 E -32 F -34 G -36 H -50 TOTAL 0 Which gives these awards: Player VP A 27 B 26 C 19 D 15 E 9 F 9 G 8 H 6 TOTAL 119 It's that last line that I can't understand - it should be 120...shouldn't it?

do you ask for aces?
Mr. Dodgy replied to jocdelevat's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Yes I am shocked that all beginners do not play exclusion, this is a problem? Keep in mind if you have a problem best solution is always to add a convention to solve it. :) oooppppssss. :) I didn't realize this was B/I board. Like I said, best I can think of is to bid 5N, grand slam force, as pure Ace-asking won't tell us what we need to know. I don't think EKCB is too much for intermediates, it's useful and simple. 5♥. -
sure, why not?

looks good ;) would lead-directing doubles be alertable?
