Hi, I have suggestions for NetBridgeVu, BridgeVu and Handviewer. NBV and BV are very old program and have not been updated for many years by BBO, 9-11 years. But they are still working and used (with some restrictions) under Windows 10/11 by many users. They are the only alternative for users that don’t have the possibility to use HandViewer, which requires LIN files packed in a XML packages and stored on a server to get access to file. As the update is frozen for NBV and BV, it makes it impossible to fix issues and add new functionality!! I have three alternative proposals to improve the situation: 1) BBO start up to support update of NBV and BV. 2) BBO release the source code for NBV and BV with an Open-Source license, which makes is possible for programmers to fix issues and add new functionality. Maybe this also will give input for further improvement of Handviewer 3) BBO design a stand-alone version of HandViewer. Probably the best solution. Ok, but it seems that the issue has been improved a bit. In the match between Sweden and France, some of the alertbids are explained... Have they been added after the recording? On one board with many alterts the operator wrotes, "the only alert I heard was OLA" and that is one players first name :-)

Why can't the operator get access to the explanations on paper (should be in english) and add it to the play data?

Traian Chira must upload the recordings to YouTube to get access. At last WC he wrote that it will take about 2-3 month to upload all recording! Still he has not done it! Why I bother was that I was interested in a QF that was not complete and still don't are! I don't think he is handling this so well. I have noticed that the alertbid is normaly empty on the VuGraph, only a ! is shown!? Why is it so? What is the purpose with alertbid if they are not explained? Bjorn

Hi, When I view the LIN file for "2021-11-13 Swedish Cup Final 1", I found that board 4-14 is missing and in 2,3 and 15,16 are one table missing. Could this be corrected? Regards Bjorn Hjalmarsson

Is there any list of updates for each version from no.1 available?

Hi, Anyone now the difference between the latest version of stand alone GIB (6.02) and current BBO implementation? I got this answer from Matt Ginsberg one ago when I asked him for the differences: "They fixed some bugs (I think), and also changed the bidding a bit. GIB will occasionally use Stayman without a 4-card major, in an attempt to scramble out of a bad 1N contract. They hated that and changed it." Has anything else (major) been done since 6.02? /Bjorn

Hi, In the Scoreboard-view "Open Room" and "Closed Room" is used as name of the rooms. In the play view the rooms are called "Other Room". Can you update so that Open Room and Closed Room is used instead of Other room in the play view also, for clarity. Thank's! Bjorn

I revisit this issue again. I am very unsatisfied with BBO's behavior in this matter! I tried to get an answer on this question, about making BridgeVu and NetBridgeVu open source to make it possible to make changes for new demands and adding new features.If there is a commercial reason or any other reason, please explain it. I can accept that, but no answer is not what you expect from a company as BBO! Regards Bjorn (still waiting for an answer BBO....)

I guess this thread seems to die. I have at least expected some answer from BBO. Sending me to this meeting and then nothing!!??

But it already supports LIN, so I don't see a problem with that,else more or less the same functionality as in NetBridgevU/Handviewer, such as be able to present a session with result at the other table, total result, show a scoresheet etc.

Maybe update of Bridge Solver could be a way forward, remains to convince the programmer to do it... :-)

My conclusions is that as BBO is not interested to support requirement for external use (understandable) a new "BridgeVu" is needed that is based on the PBN format (LIN is BBO format dot!) and open for new functionality and other changes. Conversion program exist, so it will not be necessary to support LIN. It could be shareware or free. If BBO can release the source code it could be a good help for such design. Who will take on such task, I have no idea, not me, I don't have the competence. /Bjorn

I came to that conclusion also after a while and he didn't want to convert.Understandable. Should possible to convert NetBrideVu eller BridgeVu if BBO release the source code.

Why did Fred Gitelman created a property format when he could have used the PBN format and extend it with what was missing. He could then had applied for an update of the PBN standard. Maybe he tried and didn't got any response? As far I know all program uses PBN. All have been much easier if he had done so. Probably I have missed something substansial about the reason?

Not so much as a word from BBO about this issue, a bit dissapointing to say the least... Another idea that maybe is not feasible? Is it possible to "fool" Handviewer to read a file from your disk by using your computerts IP address or if you have a NAS use that address? I add a fourth alternative which probably is the easiest one (?). 4. Add the functionality to load a local LIN file to Handviewer as it can be done in Bridgemaster. Then Handviewer also can be used without access to a server. BR/Bjorn

BridgeSolver is interesting. But it has not so much functionality, but is nice. It's an online program where you can select a file locally which it's repacked to HTML. One of my suggestions was to implement a HandViewer stand alone version, an alternative could be to implement local file support in Handviewer? Then no stand alone version is needed. Could this be a big deal? Probably, as I am ignorant about HTML programming? Barmar What's your opinion?

BBO seems to have forgotten that the BridgeVu/NetBridgeVu is still necessary for some Users. I understand the policy to not update with only BBO use in mind as it has been replaced by HandViewer. For instance we have this issue with the slow animation of cardplay, which probably can be solved by updating the programs. I am maybe naive to think that will release the source code, there are maybe commercial or ownership issues connected to a release that I am not aware of. I have no doubt that someone or several will take on the task to update the programs. Another thing I didn't mentioned was that a description of the LIN format is needed. Now you have to reverse engineer the functionalty of the parameters. Hopefully BBO will take some action... BR/Bjorn
