  1. Thanks, that was very helpful. I especially enjoyed your step-by-step instructions.
  2. In reviewing the results of a multiplayer challenge, one wants to go to 'other tables' to compare how the hands were bid and played. However, when returning to 'my table', the list jumps to the highest numbered board. Would it be possible to have it return to the board I was viewing in my table? Or perhaps to the next incrementally numbered board? Thanks for your consideration.
  3. As an alternative, are there library sites where prebuilt dealer scripts are available for various situations?
  4. I'd like to use scripts to generate hands for practice of conventions at a teaching table. While there seems to be lots of good information here, I'm wondering if much of it is still relevant, given the dates of the messages and the recent BBO update to HTML?
  5. I want to be able to create hands with which to practice some conventions, but haven't a clue where to start. Can someone point me to instructions to: a) create the dealer program? b) import the program into the advanced seal source at the teaching table? Apologies if this question has been asked many times. (I'm sure it has.) I just can't seem to find the answer. Thanks in advance, George
  6. I seem unable to activate voice chat at a teaching table. All goes well, until I click on 'Start speaking'. At that point BBO locks up entirely, nothing on the site works. I'm forced to close the browser to escape. I have enabled use of the microphone by BBO in the browser setup. No joy. Apologies if this question has been asked before (I'm sure it has), but other than one reference similar to mine of locking up the browser I've found no answers to the problem. Hopefully, there is an answer? My Bridge partner does not type well, which makes communication at the table difficult. Thanks in advance, George
  7. I've often wondered why BBO doesn't monitor IP addresses, to prevent two people in the same location from exchanging information about their hands. Of course, this would block legitimate partners from playing (say, husband & wife partnerships). Blocking an IP address would also solve the problem of abusive users who, once they are suspended, simply create a new username and carry on with the abuse. My 2 ¢ anyway
  8. I usually look at my partner's profile as soon as practical. If he/she chooses to rate their abilities, great. If not, they probably would not have added that info to their user name either.
  9. Some days you're the windshield; some days you're the bug. ;)
  10. So, it appears BBO has one foot in the boat and the other on the dock. If nothing else, remove the location of the old main and relaxed rooms in the main server. I will do my utmost to educate friends that if they continue to use a legacy client, I (and 90% of BBO players) will be unable to play with them.
  11. Why, oh why, is BBO allowing players with legacy clients to start tables? As I understand it, these tables are started on the main server because the legacy client cannot access the casual server. Does this not defeat the purpose of moving main and relaxed tables to the new casual server? It's no fun to log in to see your friends playing on the main server and because i am using the new version, I can't get to their tables. When I move to the casual server, of course they disappear altogether. I've found a work-around, in that I open a friend's profile then click on 'join'. I have no idea in advance whose table I'm going to land on, or what room it's in, or even if I will be allowed to join the table. CAn we please standardize the process, so all players in the main and relaxed rooms are in the same location? Perhaps fix the glitch that allows players with legacy clients tp click on the casual option, since that selection doesn't work; ie: they are not moved to the casual server at all, but to main and relaxed room that seem to still exist on the main server. Perhaps simply remove these rooms from the main server, as they're been replaced by rooms in the new casual server. Apologies for my verbosity; it's hard to explain this in a few words.
  12. Ah, a glimmer of light appears! Legacy clients are in fact creating creating tables (main, relaxed) on the main platform, and not the casual platform? Is this right? (In other words, they have their own private little room?) Therefore the table becomes inaccessible to all who arrive after the table is in play? That certainly explains why I can see friends playing when I first log on, but can't get to their table. But why does the programming not prevent legacy clients from creating a table on the wrong platform? For that matter, why does the program not reject legacy clients altogether, as the objective is clearly to move to the new program. Yes, it may be painful for some legacy clients. But like pulling a sliver, it's better to have a short jab of pain that a long drawn out one.
  13. Thanks; wondering why we don't seem to get a response to our questions re: the casual server?
  14. I feel the pain. When I first log in, I can see friends who are already playing in the relaxed or main room. However, when I click 'casual' to be taken to the casual server, those friends are no longer visible. Nor do they appear in a search of either room under 'friends'. I've found a way to get to their table, by clicking on 'join' in their profile. I guess my question is; since my friends are playing in the relaxed/main room, why then are they visible to me only in the main server and not the relaxed server?
  15. BTW, do mods read these post? And are they acted on, when there's a problem?
  16. I'm having a similar problem. When I first log in, I can see friends are playing. My friends mostly play in the relaxed room, but when I click 'casual' and then 'relaxed', they disappear. Furthermore, the table they are playing at is not visible in the list of tables. It seems the only way I can join them at their table is to click 'join' on their profile while I'm still in the main server, immediately after logging in, joining as a kibbitzer. There is no way to join their table as a player when a seat becomes vacant. I find this very frustrating, and not at all like the old BBO. Am I doing something wrong? Something I need to set up? IIf not, then please BBO, fix it!
  17. I log in to the main server, and can see a friend there, hosting a table in the relaxed room. (This I know, because I click on 'join' in her profile and am taken to her table.) But when I go to the casual server (click casual), then to the relaxed room, I can't see her table. Nor can I see her while in the casual server. How is she able to start a table (she is the host) in the relaxed room from the main server? I assume that's what she did, as her name only shows in the main server. This is so confusing!
  18. Welcome to my world and, I suspect, many other BBO users since the switch to a separate Casual server. I see some of my friends on the main server when I log in, but when I click on the Casual server, new friends appear and the old friends disappear. Okay, I get it; there are two distinct servers. Evidently they're not totally integrated. Hopefully they soon will be. However, puzzle me this: All the above pertains to when I log in with the new BBO software. I log in, and see some friends who I know are playing in the relaxed or main rooms. So, I go to the casual server, and poof! My friends are gone. What's even more puzzling, the tables they're playing at are gone too. Well, not actually gone; but hidden from me, for what reason I cannot fathom. But when I log in with the old BBO software, it's once again seamless. I log in, and I can see all my friends (and what room they're playing in; something that got turfed with the new version). I click on Casual, go to the relaxed or main room, and there they are! Physically, I'm connecting to the same server/servers in either case. Why am I only seeing half the picture when I use the new BBO version?
  19. I can appreciate that BBO needed to do something in a hurry to prevent the overloaded server from going down. For that, I'm grateful. My hope is that they will eventually integrate the two servers in such a way that friends can see and chat with each other independent of which area they may be in. As difficult as it may be, consider the alternative! :)
  20. So how is it that when I first log in, I can see some (but not all) of my friends who are playing in the relaxed room. Furthermore, I can jump to their table to kibbitz without the need to move to the casual server. I think I will be going back to the old Flash Player BBO site until this gets straightened out. At least there I can see all my friends all of the time.
  21. It seems bizarre that I can only see some of my friends online. I have to keep switching back and forth between servers to find them. Please make this seamless asap!
  22. Add my name to the disgruntled players who have tried the new BBO. I am back to running the old version for as long as it remains up. After that, if the new version hasn't morphed back to looking, feeling and acting more like the old version, I'm afraid I'll be saying goodbye to my BBO friends and looking for another online Bridge program (not APP).
  23. But that's the thing, isn't it? Running an app designed for a tablet on a full-size Mac or PC? When it comes to programs, one size does not fit all.
  24. I agree entirely. The new version is very frustrating, and I sense it goes beyond just being a learning curve.
  25. Have an interesting situation with BBO and Safari 12.1 After I log out of BBO and return to my home page. I am no longer able to type in the Google search engine window. I need to quit and relaunch Safari to get my keyboard back. I think the problem just started when I upgraded to 12.1. Not a problem with Firefox and BBO. Any ideas? George Addendum: this only happens when I'm running the old BBO version. When using the new (iPad) version, keyboard works fine after exit. Why not just stick to the new version, you may ask? Because I like the old version, that's why. But that's for another thread.
