I dont pass here I bid 3!H then 4!S over pard's bid.I am MOST reluctant to pass low level TO doubles without treump tricks
-
playing 2/1, if the auction begins say 1♥ - 1♠ - 2♣ what strength is shown with the 2♣ bid [a] a game force with clubs a one round force with clubs
-
The Double has a strong penalty flavour with 0-1 ♦
-
It seems like a "pick a slam"...Cant be GSF as no suit has been "agreed"I would bid 6♣

In an auction where dealer[on your left ] opens 1♣, partner overcalls 1♦ and the opps bid 3NT on your right and partner doubles, what lead is he requesting from you??a ♣ or a ♦???

I have often noticed strange cards being played by world class players at trick 1 where either attitude or count are what I expected. eg On the opening lead holding something like Q872, after dummy played the Ace,the 7 has been played.I find this card impossible to read as [a]If it is a high Attitude card, the 8 shudda been played[highest affordable] If a count card again the 8 or the 2 shud be played depending on agreement. Is there some other system of signals being used [eg odd/even] in this situation. If so can someone direct me to info on this? Thanks all.

I was kibitzing JEC & Alfredo recently defending a 4HX contract.Early in the hand declarer led the 9♣ towards dummys KQT2. JEC played the 7♣ from J876 and Alfedo ducked with A543 allowing contract to make!!!!What happened here??I suggested that this happened because JEC had NOT played the 8♣[Play the highest you can afford when playing high...ie here the 7 denies the 8] Many specs felt the 7♣ was a correct play, one saying that they ALWAYS play their 3rd highest in this situation as this informs[ partner that you dont have 2!! lower cards in this suit!!!![true but is this worthwhile information] Very few at BBO follow the rule of "play your highest" which seems quite basic to me.Experts will "encourage" by playing the 3 from A832. Do these players play in games where declarer isnt allowed to "hide"little cards?? Please dont tell me that UDCA solves this problem...it doesnt. The PRINCIPLE still applies. Do you have another way of carding here that makes sense?

[hv=d=e&v=b&s=saktxxxhatxdkqxca]133|100|Scoring: IMP Dealer opens 3D,you decide you are too good to bid 4S opposite a non passed partner.so you double. Partner bids 4H passed back to you. What do you now bid?[/hv]

without discussion I would have thought that here any bid but 4♥ would be a slam try, suit bids are cue bids where [1]4♠=Ace of ♠,may or may not have a ♣ control, but highly likely to have one [2]5♣=Ace of ♣ and K of ♠ as without ♠ control I would have bid 4♥ [3]5♦=K♠,K♣,A♦......as no Bwood

4NT= Diams with secondary clubs....partner you chose 4S=cue agreeing clubs

[hv=s=shdc]133|100|a general question regarding Lightner doubles.During a long auction where the opposition had agreed spades, blackwood was used & the reply on my right was 5H. I was void in hearts,so I doubled for the heart lead. 6S was bid on my left and passed back to me.I am sure 6S will fail with the heart ruff BUT will a double now CANCEL my previous heart lead request?I didnt think it would but decided pard MIGHT read it this way so I passed. [/hv]

7hearts seems to be cold here. Partner's concern here is in spades. He is prepared to play 6H with a spade hole so it is almost certain he has a single spade as with 2 he cant guarantee 6H.He has club control, so the only risk to 7hearts is a diamond ruff at trick 1

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=shaqdajtxxxxxckqx]133|100|Scoring: IMP There seem to be THREE possible opening bids 1DI,2CL or 5DI all of which have flaws so it is a case of finding the least worst bid[/hv]

This is a very basic question. As I like to play [1] The 1S bid confirms an unbalanced [or semi balanced with values in 2 suits] hand with 4+ clubs & 4+ spades....usually 5+ clubs [2] with a balanced hand & quite a few semibalanced hands with 4 spades I bid 1NT & use a checkback of some sort over this 1NT. There seem to be 2 possible bids [1]1NT [2]Pass or 2S. It would help to know the strength required to bid 2S rather than 1Sas used by the partnership. If 17+ then PASS is correct , otherwise 2S.If undiscussed I will take my chances with 2S as lots of GOOD things may happen and at worst we will be 1 down.I do not shy away from playing a moysian as many do at BBO

Would you mind making brief comments on the N-S bids in this auction. 1C- P[north]-2C-X[south] 2C is NOT inverted P - P - P North 98,T8,KQ985,A974 South AT753,KQ4,JT74,T Thanks in anticipation [hutchau]

As an "old fashioned" experienced player ,I am being asked to play udca with odd/even discards.and 3/5th leads Each of these on their own are relatively simple but tying them together isnt clearcut.Perhaps someone can clarify these points for me. [1]LEADS....from odd do we always lead lowest? From 7card suit...Low? or 5th?If you have KNOWN length & lead 3rd when holding 5+, does this have some special meaning? from even do we always lead 3rd best or can 5th best be led? what is led from KT92?? T or 9? [2]SIGNALS..playing o/e discards with udca, you discard 2H on spades...Is this a positive signal in hearts or clubs? Does it depend on whether a suit or NT is being played? Perhaps someone can point me to a reference to some of this stuff?
