Yes, you are absolutely right. I think it can be refined even further. Users should have the option of chosing an "add-free game experience" at login, similar to Invisible. If they do this, $0.25 comes off their account for the day. Further logins for the next 24 hours will have this option disabled. They will not choose this if they know they will play in a tourney or if they really want the adds (anyone?).

$0.25 x 365 == $91.25, so BBO would make more than me paying 25 cents every day to get rid of the annoying ads. I wouldn't have to sign up for a tourney than wait for it to start and then withdraw. It should be made clear that this is not membership. Uday/Fred, please consider it.

How about offering a $100/year subscription where you can play all the instant robot tournaments you want (and more importantly to me, not see the ads)? It would save you from having to register for such a tourney every day you don't want to see the ads. You can call it Yearly Pre-paid Instant Tournament fee to make it clear that it's not mandatory.

absolutely! that's less than $100/year. make it $75/year and I'm sure there would be a lot of people choosing this option.

I totally understand the need for BBO to put ads on the playing site, they need revenue to keep the site free. But having ads that are flashing in different colors, have tons of animation or other distracting features is a deterrent for a lot of people to play on BBO. I know I can't stand them and would rather not play than having to put up with that sort of garbage. BBO should consider offering paid membership where ads are disabled. I'm sure there would be a lot of subscribers if the fees are reasonable. You could certainly count me in.

Blackberry Playbook is NOT an Android device. It has built-in support for Flash and BBO has worked flawlessly ever since I first used it on Playbook, more than 2 years ago. There is no need to install Flash on these devices, so I urge you to restore the link for this browser. Please let me know if you need my help with testing, I'm an IT pro and would be more than happy to do so. One more thing, Blackberry Playbook is a 7" tablet (not smartphone) perfectly suitable to the flash version of BBO.

Since about a few days ago, the "Play Bridge Now" link on bridgebaseonline.com page is not showing up on BlackBerry Playbook tablets anymore. Entering the URL (http://www.bridgebase.com/client/client.php?port=80) via copy/paste works, but I think a lot of players will be turned back by the missing link on the main page. I have a feeling that it is 'browser detection' issue. I have confirmed this on two devices, both with the latest software updates.

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to set the dealer and the vulnerability when entering input for the Dealer program in the Deal Source. Say I want to practice responses to Capelleti at a bidding table. I want East to always be the dealer and open 1NT. I know how to generate hands for the opener, overcaller, responder and advancer. I just can't get BBO to keep East as the dealer. I tried using the "dealer East" command, but BBO seems to ignore it. The same for the 'vulnerability' command. Any suggestions?

i can't seem to be able to turn on the barometer after the match has started (using the old version of software). It allows me to turn it on, but the results still don't show up. Is this a bug?

I would like to practice bidding with my regular partner using predealtd hands at a partnership bidding table. I have constructed a set of hands around the topic we want to practice. Let's say I have constructed 12 hands suited for the Lebensohl convention and saved them in a single lin file. I want us to practice bidding Lebensohl on these hands. Using the old version of BBO, I create a teaching table, open up Movie and open (load) the lin file containing the hands. If my partner uses the old version of BBO all is well. After he takes the seat at the table, I send each hand in turn to the table (by highlighing the next hand in the set and pressing the Send button in Movie). However, if he uses the new version, his hand is not refreshed when I send the new hand. He still has the old hand but I do get the new one, which obviously creates a hilarious situation (our cards belong to two different boards). Is this a bug or a limitation of the Flash version? Also, considering the inherent limitations of the Flash version - specifically in this particular case, that you cannot load predealt hands from a file (due to security restrictions) - it would be nice if GIB robots would be available at partnership bidding tables created with the old BBO. Currently I haven't figured it out how can I employ robots playing the E-W hands. Thank you very much, Mircea

I have quickly glanced through this thread and was very sad to see Fred's posting where he confirms that there will be no significant developments to the Windows client. I think that is very unfortunate. I am using it exclusively mostly because I consider it superior in functionality but also because I don't like web based programs in general. One feature (or lack thereof) that drives me crazy with the Flash client is that you cannot have South at the bottom during the play. When you go to review the board you just played you have look at the rotated diagram. It's so awkward!!! Anyway, I still hold a glimmer of hope that Fred will have a change of heart and not abandon the Windows client. Mircea
