  1. Here in the UK my partner and I play strong NT and 5 card majors, 2 over 1 and a forcing nt over an opening of a major. We play Kaplan Interchange over 1 Heart where a response of 1 Spade shows 0 to 4 Spades whereas 1nt promises at least 5 Spades. Any hand of game forcing strength without 5 Spades we would bid 2 of our better minor ( at least 3 cards )
  2. If the vulnerability was reversed I was always told to pass with such a strong hand as partner will pull with a bust and you know he will bid spades. Most weak NT's that I know play systems off after a double so 2 diamonds is normally not a transfer. I might pass ( instead of doubling )and hope to set it by 3 or 4 tricks, because with normal shape in partners hand after cashing heart ace a club lead might produce enough tricks to set it.
  3. Hi guys I was taught years ago that double promises 8 plus points pass 4 or less and a suit bid 5 to 7 ( 5 cards or more ) Meaning you pass a flat hand with up to 6 or 7 HCP. I think this is a better approach as partner can pass double for penalties or be sure of a game possibly slam. If responder then jumps over openers rebid opener will Know hand is balanced with 5 to 7 points. Comments welcome
  4. The second post by Steve specified a club lead. Irrespective of that whether a diamond or a club is led I still see the chance of 13 tricks. On a diamond lead win dummies 10 heart to Ace 2 rounds of trumps cross to dummies queen cash king of hearts discarding small club cross to ace of clubs. On club lead cash 2 top trumps in hand then ace hearts cross to queen spades discard losing club on king of hearts and ruff club to make 13
  5. Hi Guys If Spades split 3 2 there are 13 tricks to be had. Win Ace clubs cash Ace hearts draw trumps ending with queen cash king of hearts discarding losing club cash 10 diamonds and trump club to take rest. This is unless there is some bidding to warn of extreme distribution. cheers
  6. I play weak nt Benji acol and the method to deal with a double of 1nt is the Helvic wriggle. I see someone mentioned it but they didn't explain the bonus. If 1 nt is doubled and partner passes you are forced to redouble which partner can pass if he has a decent hand ( say 10 points plus). a direct suit bid after double shows 2 lowest of 2 touching suits after a redouble a suit shows 2 non touching. A pass is forcing asking partner to bid 2 clubs and promises a 5 card suit so pass or correct after 2 clubs.
