Rate this Take-out Double

Agree. Specially after 2♠. Kind of shows the hand already. -
Rate this Take-out Double
igt3 replied to Tramticket's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I would double everyday. Then for the rest of the bidding. What did XX by North show? 18-19 without good stoppers in the majors? If so, you know 3NT is probably not a good contract. South pass after 2♠ is a little bit shy I think when partner has 18-19. Maybe I would double showing more than an absolute minimum. Or maybe better, bid 3♦ already now. Passing first and then bidding 3♦ looks like sign-off to me, and South is stronger than that I think. Then the last double by North is a bit strange since South already knows North´s hand. I would bid 4♦ instead and then South can bid the game. -
How to bid this hand
igt3 replied to phoenixmj's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
We use 2♠ asking for the minors. Opener bids 2NT with same length or longer diamonds and 3♣ with longer clubs. After opener´s rebid responder passes or bids 3m with a one suited weak hand. With both minors, like yours, he bids 3♥ or 3♠ showing shortness. (3NT shows slam interest with a long clubs and 4♣ with long diamonds.) After 3M opener can bid 3NT with no slam interest in a minor or setting trump with 4♣ or 4♦. This works more often than not. -
responses to 2c open - strong
igt3 replied to phoenixmj's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
My partner and me are playing 2♣-opening as either game forcing or 20-21NT (with 22-24 we open 2NT) so we don´t think we need a negative or second negative response. So our resopnses then are: 2♦=waiting, 2♥/♠=to play vs 20-21, 2NT=both minors, 3♣/♦=to play vs 20-21. Ace-responses or control showing I have a problem with. Played that a couple of times, but we were already at the 3rd level having no idea of any fit. Can recommend Roy Hughes - Building a bidding system. Lots of good ideas and tips on efficient bidding. Colours first for instance. -
Followups after weak 2 and change of suit
igt3 replied to antonylee's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
How are your weak 2-openings? Suit quality? Non vulnerable/vulnerable? Position? Can you expect opener to have a control outside his/hers suit? I play it rather simple. New suit is round forcing, normaly with no fit in openers´ suit. (why suggest another suit non forcing?) Opener can support responer with a simple raise with minimum or jump with maximum. Or jump in a new suit as a splinter raise. If opener has maximum and no fit for responder he/she bids NT or a side suit. With minimum opener repeats his/her suit. Since opener is maximum we are in a game forcing situation. (So 3♠ from responder would be stronger than 4♠ if you play slow arrival) 2NT=forcing with fit (could be 2 cards). Then we respond as after Jacoby2NT. Worked well so far. -
How sure are you about your methods ?
igt3 replied to Cyberyeti's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I think it depends on IMP or MP. Playing IMPs I would bid 4S. PLaying MP 3S invitational. I don´t believe in transfers since it might be a trick having opener on lead. -
Opening Two bids in 4th

Open weak in 3rd seat with Drury available is fine, but why open weak in 4th? -
Opening Two bids in 4th
igt3 replied to nekthen's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Since there is no one to pre-empt I play them invitational. 6+suit with 2 top honours. -
Bid this using Walsh system
igt3 replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
2♣ would deny, maybe not 4 diamonds, but 5. Specially in an unbalanced hand. I think game forcing jump shifts are a little bit better than weak, so with my partner I bid 2♦. What I really want, specially in MP, is to play 6NT from west. Might be hard though. What do I do after 1♣-1♦-1♥? If you play 1♠ as 4th suit forcing I can bid that and then maybe jump in diamonds whatever partner says. -
Playing IMPs I wouldn´t like to miss game with this. Then it is just a question how you invite with 5-5. Playing MPs I think I would get to 2M if that is possible (1NT-2C-2D-2H is a good way)
-
With this I would bid 3♥ (mostly because of my J10xxx in hearts)
-
I don´t like 3♥ from partner. The second double told the story. If I have a little bit more I will bid 3♥ myself.
-
I agree completely with apollo1201. This is exactly the hand I see [1-3-(45)]. It can´t suddenly be for penalty, but since partner bid 3H voluntarily he/she must have some values so it gives partner the option to pass the double. I sometimes call these kind of doubles "I don´t know what to do. What do you think partner."-doubles.

Multi Level Confusion
igt3 replied to FelicityR's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Since partner is bidding 3C voluntarily I suppose it denies 4 hearts and shows some values. I would bid 4S I think. 6C is probably not far away. -
Jump to 4 after 1 or 2 N

How often do you have a hand that just needs to know the KC? -
inverted minors openers next bid
igt3 replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I am not a huge fan of showing stoppers. It makes you stay out of a 3NT contract lacking a stopper in one of the majors, but on the other hand it might make with a favorable lead. -
I would absolutely balance. It might be that partner can make a profitable penalty pass. Beside us having our own contract.
-
Are som versions of Gazzilli, but with the original 1H-1S-3H shows a hand with a good 6+H suit but not enough to force to game vs a minimum 1S-response. 2H would show minimum with 6+H.
-
I play Gazzilli with my partner so we would have no problem reaching slam. 1H - 1S 2C - 2D 3H - 4C (Cue confirming hearts) 4D - 4NT 5C (1430) - 5D 5H - 6H

Other minor after interference of 3 hearts
igt3 replied to pescetom's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
New suit after a weak over call is always natural and forcing I suppose. -
How do you guys play 1m-2M? I prefer playing it game forcing with a good (at least 2 top honours) 6+suit. Follow-ups are to be agreed of course, but finding the slam wouldn´t be a problem I think.
-
Happy I don´t live there.
-
3S looks like 4 spades and minimum so I would pass.

Possible slam hand, how to respond to opener?
igt3 replied to kereru67's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
Why not just bid 1♦ and take it from there? Give partner KQxx,Jxx,Jxx,AQx and there is no slam after a heart lead.
