  1. That was unknown to me, as at the table I chose to play small from dummy, and then spade to Ace and ruff, noting the fall of ♠J from South. I now had to decide whether ♠J was a falsecard, or did spades really break 5-2, if so then I would need to ruff the hearts in dummy after taking a pitch on a diamond. I was also not sure whether North would have followed ♣10 on the first trick if he had held ♣Tx. Perhaps I should have chosen to cash the ♠AK first, in preparation for a full crossruff.
  2. After some thought, South leads ♣7, plan your play. If you play small from dummy, North will follow ♣10. If you play an early spade to the Ace and ruff a spade, south will follow with ♠J on the 2nd round.
  3. Tend to agree with your comments in a pairs game, but would you buy insurance against 6C in a team match?
  4. It’s from an online team match against opponents from another country, IMPs. I understand any concerns about playing pairs, but I was mainly worried about insurance against the opponents’ 6C.
  5. [hv=pc=n&s=saqjt94hk965dt96c&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=1d(NAT%204%2B)1s3c(Fit%20jump%2C%202%2F3%20or%203%2F5%20of%20top%20honors)4s6c]133|200[/hv] Playing with a solid partner against solid opponents. No special agreements, so Dbl should suggest defensive values, and pass would not be forcing. (Edit) missed the form of scoring, which would be a team knockout match scored by IMPs.
  6. Then you should remember your opponents. Seems that the East hand is clearly worth an invite after 1H - 2H.

Trusting your auction, East leads the trump deuce, West follows. If you duck a club, West will win the club King and return a trump.
  8. Your hand looks like the robot was programmed to think "there's no game because my partner is a passed hand, so let's get out at a contract below 2NT", but was NOT programmed to think "I can pass this non-GF 2/1"
  9. Could you describe what happened in the sample hands, or even post some links, so we could protect ourselves and other BBO users when we encounter similar cheating?
  10. I guess the fact that it was a speedball affected the choice of bids, maybe they were down to two minutes per board and had to decide on a contract quickly? There are also some tournaments I heard of in which each pair can only make 4 bids on each board, in which the same would occur
  11. I think X most definitely doesn't promise 4 hearts, it could be a strong hand that needs to start with X and that most people wouldn't dream of overcalling a natural 2NT without at least 15 HCPs In fact I probably wouldn't even X with the North hand, it's too weak for an off-shape takeout double for me For the OP's hand, if it was a normal non-speedball tournament I would start with a cue-bid of 4S, here partner would probably bid 5D and I would raise to 7
  12. and even if playing Acol, a 3H courtesy raise was probably needed if having 9 hcp and a good fit, as opener could still have 16-17 for the opening post, I agree with pass.
  13. [hv=pc=n&w=st5hkj7da872cqj53&e=s942haq864d4cak76&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=p1hp1n(forcing)p2c2d3h(3%20cd%20limit%20raise)p4hppp]266|200[/hv] In a club all-rounded pairs game in which the scoring is 55% Matchpoints and 45% IMPs, south leads the trump deuce. Plan your play.
  14. I think East would have led a side suit singleton if he had one. So he is likely to be short in trumps, if he is indeed 7321.
