A player leaves the table and never returns.
dsLawsd replied to pilowsky's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
It was a correct ruling for the E-W score but not the N-S score who should have been given a procedural penalty. Obvious was not the right word but it was a likely result for the sake of all pairs playing. Winning 4 tricks about right, no? DGS CCD -
View of People at a Table without joining
dsLawsd replied to billyjef's topic in General BBO Discussion
It generally works for me but a user can enter as invisible and I guess there are some table options available to the Host? -
I recommend the Director give an adjusted score rather than seat a new declarer midway through any hand. If necessary both E-W and N-S could be given different scores. The reasons you provide are quite cogent to me anyhow.

Yes, it is a bidders game. Interesting data.

Default conventions in individual tournaments
dsLawsd replied to gjfeldman's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Get partner to play your card? Else it is a true crapshoot. -
These measures help keep deals secure. Some events are shown elsewhere such as on twitch. Avoids the early days where players might self-kibbitz.

Lack of Convention Cards by Many Partnerships
dsLawsd replied to dtaneri's topic in Find a Partner/Teacher!
It could be fixed but only full disclosure by the participants fills the bill really. What is worse is those who will not disclose their full names. should be mandatory for serious tournament play. -
Some time ago the ACBL went to percentage instead of match points so that reports made more sense to non-duplicate players when reporting overall results where the matchpoints on a board might vary. It took a bit to make the adjustment I suppose. Unlike bowling a '200' game could be anywhere from winning to being a dreadful score.

EWW= a giant step backwards :)

No deal is here- so a little micro deal???????????

Whatever the result Win 7 is so full of security issues that you really should upgrade to 8 or preferably 10. You might try Edge also. I use Firefox usually...

Hope that the BBO hand generator is working properly and is correct. Personally, I relish the chance to play defense frequently as it has on some occasions lead to a huge per cent score, once giving our partnership a top ten finish in a NABC+ event. At any rate better than playing hands where the outcome is usually flat.

You may feel bad, but you are not stupid at all! Talking through a problem shows intelligence! And we learned something.

How do you bid this ?
dsLawsd replied to Cyberyeti's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
How good is your game? How solid your opponents? I am torn between Double and 5♣as that gets the message across. As responder to the double 1♠seems right as my suit is good. What could go wrong? The usual like playing 4. But on this hand you get to field 3♣ most likely don't you? Still 2♣ could be as strong as 17 HCP and partner might have a natural bid or a good heart stop... -
Perhaps the change freed up resources to improve response times. It might make some sense (see GUI post) to give users a choice of interface and visual issues cause problems on small screens in particular. I still miss flash although not on some apps...

Interesting. Perhaps they could give the viewer a choice of views. I am sympathetic with those with weakened eyes. And it seems to depend on the browser. The big improvement I want is the ability to rid myself of old worthless (to me) messages! Would using the magnifier tool in windows help?

We sometimes criticize BBO, but here I would like to say that a great Job was done with the new GUI. A good look that streamlines our use.

Disconnect High-speed internet and get a 56K Modem. That should be sufficient pun-ishment.

Introduce 30 second timer to all bidding
dsLawsd replied to Dawn06's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Try basketball or Chess? -
You could also rent a robot and then from the Robot section open a table with 3 robots. You can then pick either a specific event like a Bermuda Bowl or a random set of (16 board) VuGraph hands. You can click on other tables for each result and see what they did. I prefer this to Solitaire.

Playing games with robots - why am I the dummy?
dsLawsd replied to LCarey13's topic in General BBO Discussion
For speed of play. Use it to compare with the top players by choosing either a specific event or random Vugraphs. Then see how they did it. You are not really compared with others. Otherwise you can play solitaire... -
If a Director is available they can adjust the score or add time to the clock. If you feel you are being "gamed" you can write a player memo. Ethically, a slow player has a duty to apologize and call the Director himself (assuming they do not have the guts to go ahead and claim down 1 etc) Zounds! It is that devil game, Matchpoints. At Imps in a National Championship I kibitzed a high ranking match where the Pair took 25 minutes to bid to 5NT and make it. (There were some words, but civil) ###

Can you specify the deal type? If so, you could ask for Vu-graph deals either random or specific event (as can be done with you plus 4 robot tables). Else can you pick IMPS or matchpoints or even close the table periodically and re-open?
-
Can you try a teaching table? You might be able to set up a 3 robot table and then take out one to allow partner to sit? If so you can use random or specific Vu-graph hands 16 at time and then compare to what the experts did,,,
