Opener's No Trump rebid after interference.
rigbyrigz replied to Liversidge's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
Thank you for your reply; of course it mimics my thinking so I'm especially thankful, lol. I wonder if there is a definitive "standard" for the sequence in question. OFC if you do something 40 years an it works well for ya, all power to you and your approach; but doesn't exactly make it the de facto thing, if that's the right term. But i'm now more open to the reality "both" approaches might be "acceptable". (Although the 15-19 range makes me uncomfortable, as I would never do a 2n jump here (18-19) it's like asking for big trouble with little reward likely.) -

Yes, thank you. I like 1d then 2d more now than I did at the time, lol. I was "trained" to rebid 2 of a minor with 6, and commonly open 1d then rebid 2c with "many" 2-2-4-5... I see this is not as common nowadays as I think it once was. That's not exactly a KS issue, as the problem occurs in both ranges. -

Thank you for precise and elaborate reply! Just a bit asea about 18-19 balanced... AKx AJ Axxx Kxxx and Kxx AJ Axxx Kxxx both rebid 1n after 1d-1s-p-p? -

Good Bad 2N is a great tool; careful discussion to avoid accidents! Issue still (I would desire input) on: When you open 1 of a minor preparatory to 1n 15-17 rebid, but LHO overcalls and pard passes. Sure pard is "usually" broke but 8 points and 5card minor ain't unheard of. Anyway, p p back to you: is 1N 18-19 like in standard? do you double with shortness (two) in their suit and any 15, any 15-17. Do you take any action when you are 3+ in their suit? could make a great case for negative free bids, by pard, in this type of auction, but assume no such tool. -

I was trying to check a recent KaplanSTYL debacle out. I played KS many years so (for the second time) sat in as Master's partner, playing KS. First issue was Kx AKxx QJTxx xx and I opened 1N red vs white 12-14. LHO doubled. Master bid 2C and announced "systems off< what I bid I want to play". Although 2D was my preference here, I passed Master's 2C call for the sake of the moment. Since he held just the Q of spades and four small clubs, it was not a success! Down -300 versus an iffy NV 3N their way, lose 5. Master "berated" me "you don't know KS< 1NT never have a 5card suit" - never heard that and don't find that "rule" anywhere" do you? What "took the cake" though was next opening 1D with something like KJx AJ AJxx Jxxx. LHO bid 1S p p to me. I firmly believe 1N should be 18-19 now, same as standard. What do I want with 15 opposite something close to zero, a penalty double with nowhere to go? I passed; with my spades and hearts reversed I would double. Missed 3N because Master passed 1S with xx Txx Qxx AKQ9x. Easy 2C call of course, but that's not the point: Master again berated me (oh well) "you don't know KS you must bid 1N to show a strong NT" (I presume 15-17). I had enough at this point and left my seat back to the gallery. Some specs got on my case (you have too much to pass it out, etc.) While a double may be optional/iffy, I think 1N is very wrong, but I did some research. Found your comment here about 1N being "some hope to make no point range". I suggest pard may rightly pass (not insanity like Master's pass of 1S) with something like Qx xxx xxx KQxxx. Maybe even a point less, and if you show 18-19 will bid a good 3N. But if 1N can be on 15 (as some specs like) or even "whatever you hope might make 1n", it seems more like poker. Comments, anyone? -

I have reported this to BBO and posted about it in 2 other GIB threads here, after having it done regularly to me in the 25cents BBO tourneys this week. Which I will no longer play; spent $20-30 last 2 weeks. Had to withdraw several times. We deserve Refunds!! It was first reported in the Free Tourneys, something about the Robots are not "as advanced" and so do less simulations. It's basically bogus, as is BBO's statements that the same GIB s/w versions of robots are used in tourneys for pre-played comparisons. Obviously the recent upgrades to GIB affected what you and I do in our Pay mini Tourneys, which are significantly different.. Besides weak 2 bids, I had the auction 1N-3N exactly repeated. The robot with 5-3-2-3 led a spade against one deal, but a diamond against another iterations of the same deal. Then to have compared? Very Very unfair Yes! We must understand, especially as these become more popular and there are not active players at all times; think about the timing and delays and how the first one to finish a hand would get a result if the 14 other deals weren't already "in the compare bank". Yes its a bit non-Tasty, but necessary. But they MUST ensure comparisons are made between deals where the robots had the exact same GIB software version. Suck slow reply from BBO is not a feather in their cap to comment on this! -
More to the above. I got curious, so started checking other boards samePAY Mini Tourney from today. Auction goes 1N p 3N. Robot on lead has QTxxx AJx Jx Txx On one deal the GIB leads a Spade. On another deal it leads J of D. Same exact 1N - 3N auction. Huge difference in the result. How can these tourneys be fair with such goings on? And we pay $

I am all FOR upgrading GIB as appropriate. But if you play in a PAY-mini Tourney with all robots, and your robots GIB-s/w has version 2017-upgrd-2, and the 14 player deals you are compared against all used some much older version, it is extremely unfair. And this is INDEED happening Today! If you browse recent "Weekly Free Instant Has a Different Version" thread you will see reliable reports of this happening this week in Free Games. Yes, I know (we know?) for functional timing and such, comparisons have to be made (at times?) with (same) deals played on an earlier occasion. But I read that BBO has announced that in these PAY Tourneys the comparisons would be withy deal played with same GIB s/w version. WRONG!n Today in 25cents Pay Mini 8board matchpoint 15 players, 14 times the GIB opened 2H on KJx QT9xxx QT Jx. IN 2nd seat, all Not Vul, after a Pass. BUT MY ROBOT PASSED! This led of course to completely different auction and what was a n unjustified disasterous resulting score for me. Not a good situation, Folks! -
I will report IF?WHAT BBO replies to me. But I have done some thinking (uh oh) and recalling. In the beginning I noticed the names of the other players in the final rankings, and saw what masterpoint awards they received. Lately though, I see they all say N/A. (it used to show me .60 .42 .21 .18 etc) Maybe due to time of day, how often I play, or such, BBO is having a hard time coming up with same-Robot-version-comparisons! Besides the great point above as to what result will show for the first board finished, I had wondered how you can play fast or stop and slow and it still works fine in a functional timing sense. The BBO tourney God is obviously using previously played deals, when it chooses to/needs to. When the deals selected have a different GIB version in play, AS IS CLEAR HERE, it is tremendously unfair AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE/ NOT SURE WHAT.

IT IS INDEED DOING THIS DASTARDLY THING EVEN WHEN YOU PAY!!!! I started playing 8 board 15 person mini 25cents BBO tourneys matchpoints this month. Today when I was 1st after 7 Boards and dropped to 8th after a DISASTEROUS Board 8 for no justified reason, I decided to Fully Investigate. None Vul West Dealer Robot in North holds: KJx QT9xxx QT Jx 14 TIMES this robot opened 2H after West passes ON the 15th time, as MY ROBOT, it PASSED, leading to an extremely different auction of course! And of course I have reported it. This is VERY ALRMING! Comments Please!!!!
