  1. It is frustrating when I drop the connection and get booted before I can get back. Other times I wait and wait for RHO and get booted. Then the time warning shows up. I'd ask for a refund but I don't think it would be worth the trouble.
  2. I tell my partners that I have learned so much from my mistakes that I think I make some more.
  3. The best method is the second revision of Cappaletti. 2 ♠ shows single suit spades 2 ♥ shows single suit hearts 3 ♣ shows single suit clubs 2 ♦ shows both major suits Double shows both minor suits 2 ♣ relay bid to 2 ♦ over the relay pass shows single suit diamonds 2 ♥ shows hearts and a minor 2 ♠ shows spades and a minor if the major suit is not playable Bid 2 NT to ask which minor The advantage is getting the single suit major into the auction before responder has a chance to bid. The first revision employed an illegal bid. The ACBL rescinded the ruling but this version had been published by that time.
  4. I think the meaning is quite clear. It says "Partner I don't want to play in this partnership any longer"
  5. When the strain is NT a jump to 4 !c is Gerber. Transfer bids are on. There is a problem when the level is 3NT and the solution is Super Gerber. 5!c is ace asking and when 2 aces are missing, 5 NT is to play. Otherwise 4 clubs is Stayman and transfers are on.
  6. I have played this for years. I know it a the second revision of Cappelletti. The first revision used an illegal bid. The ACBL rescinded the rule banning the bid but by that time second revision had surfaced. The advantage is that a single major suit is bid directly over the 1NT opening. Single suit bids in other systems require a two step procedure usually started with double or 2 clubs. This is fine if the opposition is quiet for the rest of the auction. However I feel that the sooner we find our fit the better off we are. Example 1NT 2 Spades. If I find partner with spades we will be competing. If the opening side has a heart fit they have to start looking for it at the 3 level. On the other hand if the auction starts 1NT double the responder has room to look for their fit at the 2 level. 4th seat holding spades and heart shortness will not know whether or not to compete. I play that double is penalty over weak NT and both minors over strong NT.
  7. I don't open balanced 12 counts. However I played with a partner who used any excuse to open for about a year. After every game, I reviewed the hand records and noted our result, and the top for the board, for every board where we had the option of bidding or passing a balanced 12 count. I entered them into a spreadsheet. On the hands that I passed we averaged 55%. On the hands where partner opened we averaged 38%. Does anybody else have any statistics?
  8. I can only speak for myself. I frequently experience lost connections. I don't know why it happens but it does. I am not a runner but I find it difficult to maintain the 90% TCR required by the express tournament. I think about self driving cars. Brakes not responding, shut the car off and restart.
  9. Scoring IMPs Neither side vulnerable The auction 1S x 2S 3H 3S x
  10. There are several defense systems of 1NT that employ double as a puppet to 2 Clubs. Doubler then bids his suit (pass if it is clubs). Other bids at the two level are used to show 2 suited hands.
  11. I use 3m over 1NT to show a good but not solid 6 card minor and no other values. It is basically to play. But if opener can fill in the suit there will be 6 tricks available. He bids 3 NT if he can take 3 tricks in the other suits. I use 3M over 1 NT to show a singleton in the suit bid and 4 cards in all the other suits with 12+ HCPs. This holding can produce a slam when opener has no duplication of values in the suit bid.
