  1. i like sitting at a table for hours playing card games. is it hard to find players that want to spend all day Saturday and Sunday playing bridge? there's poker games in my area that do this but i don't want to spend the hundred plus dollars just to buy-in to enable me to play.
  2. I'm considering taking up bridge to help me concentrate better at the poker. does anyone else do or have done this?
  3. nevermind i bid my longest suit
  4. ♠K Q 9 7 6 ♥A ♦A J 10 5 ♣9 5 4 do we open 1♦ or 1♠ here? we have 12-19 points and a 5 card spade suit and 4 card diamond suit.
  5. we are dealer and have ♠ J 7 5 4 ♥A K 6 5 3 ♦A 5 3 ♣ J we have 13 points and a void. we are first to act. what should we bid and why? we dont have a balanced hand (i could be wrong) and in acol if we have 12-14 points and a balanced hand we should open with 1NT. (i could be wrong too on this).
  6. Is bidiing here a overcall? is a double bid here a overcall?
  7. we have ♠ A 10 5 4 ♥ A J 3 ♦Q 5 ♣ K Q 4 3 Partner is north and has passed. east bids 1♦. We have 16 points. Whats the correct bid here?
  8. Is playing online good practice and can teach you how to play good bridge? also reading about bridge. I'm going to play for 1 hour then study for 1 hour.
  9. I will use bridge hand generator and practice playing the hands for each player.
  10. When I just read a bridge book I can't remember anything i just read. If I read and write down on what to bid and read it aloud and record it onto my phone of what i have written i seem to able to remember for a short time. 2 days later i can't remember anything. How do you study? How do you absorb whats written in the books?
  11. if i have two 5 card suits and 0-9 points which suit should i bid? for example ♠ 5 7 10 K 2 ♥ 6 J 3 2 4 I have two 5 card suits and 4 points here in this spot (assuming i don't have more than 5 points in other minor suits) Should I bid the highest or lowest suit? meaning i should bid hearts 2H or should I bid 2s as the highest in this spot. if i had ♥ 6 J 3 2 4 ♦5 7 10 K 2 Should I bid diamonds or hearts? 2h or 2d?
  12. If i have 0-9 points and a 5 card suit and partner has opened 1NT should we bid 2d,2s,2h or 2c in that spot? with 2c which is stayman should we be wanting to rebid 3c telling partner that we are trying to do a weak takeout in that spot? should we only bid 2c as a weak takeout if we have a 6+ club suit no less?
  13. just read a book saying if we have a 4 card major we only use stayman 2c? am i correct?
  14. if partner opens 1NT which means he has 12-14 points with a balanced hand in ACOL and we have 13-18 points should we use stayman (2c) here in this spot? or just bid 3NT? thanks
  15. if partner opens 1NT which means he has 12-14 points with a balanced hand in ACOL and we have 13-18 points should we use stayman (2c) here in this spot? or just bid 3NT. thanks
  16. why bid 3H and then pass when the point of it is to prevent opponents from seeing the cards of the openers hand which is stronger?
  17. from what I read in my book we should open with 1♥ with this hand. the reason for that is because we are telling our partner that we have 5 hearts. if we had 5 spades instead of four we would bid 1♠. Am i correct here? what book is a good reference for todays games?
  18. ♠ A 8 4 2 ♥A J 7 6 4 ♦A 6 ♣4 2 we have 13 points here. from reading my book on bridge it says we should not open the bidding with 13 points if we dont have 2 quick tricks or a good major suit. do we have 2 quick tricks here? we have 3 aces and is each one worth 1 quick trick? is 5 hearts a good major suit?
  19. dealer is east. vuln: E-W what does vuln E-W mean East has ♠K Q 8 7 ♥A K 4 ♦Q 10 8 ♣Q 7 5 What should east do? should he/she bid 1NT since east has 16 points and has a balanced hand 4-3-3-3? South has ♠4 2 ♥Q 7 6 5 3 2 ♦K J ♣8 6 2 What should south do and why?
  20. who goes first in bridge? is it the dealer?
  21. Can someone play good bridge solely by playing a ton (like 12 hours a day) and not reading any books on the subject? basically just playing by instinct. I'm planning on doing this.
  22. I remember now since i recorded myself saying if i've got 12 points i have a weak 1NT hand and i should bid 1NT. if partner responds with 2c hes asking me if i have a four card major and he has 8+ points. if i dont have a four card major i bid 2d. if i do i either bid 2h if i have four hearts or four spades or 2s if i have four spades. easily remembered now after i recorded myself and play it back a few times an listen.
  23. whats the best way to remember that when partner bids 2NT and we have less than 4 points and no particularly long suit that we should pass?
