  1. I second this suggestion to have a sound alert for a substitute request. I have experienced this problem in exactly the same way. Also, somehow I had the impression that not everyone was affected by this problem.
  2. Hi all, The people screen does not seem to refresh very often. I see friends as logged in but they are logged out. I don't see friends even though they have logged in. I'm not referring to friends who have set their status to invisible. Thanks much! Paul
  3. Hi there, I'm trying to register for Free 2 Day Weekend Event (Day 1 of 2) and I'm getting technical error message "Could not accept - internal error while registering Code HY000". Any ideas how I can register? Thanks, Paul
  4. Thanks Paul, I think you're onto something here! I'll just qualify the doubling part and give it to my partner.
  5. Hi all, I have a partner that is passionate about bridge and knows a lot about bidding and cardplay. Somehow she has missing learning much about scoring. I know the difference between matchpoints and IMPs but I'm finding it difficult to explain the difference to her without resorting to examples. Her bidding and play strategy is quite matchpoints-centric even when playing IMPs. Does anyone have an elegant way of explaining the differences between these two scoring methods to someone who is not terribly sophisticated? Thanks, Paul
  6. As first bidder my partner occasionally passes when it's his turn to bid even when holding up to 15 points or so. Our card says that we open suits 12+ points. I know that sometimes he passes with more than 12 so do I need to alert his passes? Thanks, Paul
  7. Thanks for letting me know. It would be amazing if BBO would expose the records so that we in the data/bridge community could try crunching the numbers. I would envisage the hands details exposed but the player details anonymized. Besides comparing different systems I would love to see which way of evaluating the hand ends up giving the best results. Many people consider Marty Bergen's system to be the best out there but I'd love to try proving that out.
  8. My work involves data and these days we all discuss the huge amount of data just sitting there and waiting to be mined. BBO has an amazing resource of these millions of detailed hand records and I wonder if the data is being analysed currently? I think everyone would be interested in knowing whether particular systems can be shown to be more effective, what types of leads actually produce more tricks, etc. I believe hand records have already been crunched but I don't know if those books had access to as much data as I believe BBO has. Cheers, Paul
