I definately open this hand 1D in 1st or 2nd seat, but in 3rd seat I'd open 2NT since my ps hand is already limited.

How should bidding go?
Cowology replied to badderzboy's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I don't particularly like the 4H bid. Vuln with a flat hand it's just a bit to aggresive for me. That said, if my P bid 4H I could certainly live with that. It's not unreasonable, I just prefer a more modest 3H. With Easts hand I definately Dbl 2H and I would most likely bid 4S over 4H. But ask me again tomorrow after I've read everybody elses insightfull comments and I might change my mind :-) -
I tend to agree with this. Double for me is penalty oriented but pass is not mandatory.

WJO deny ability to make simple overcall?
Cowology replied to DrTodd13's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
I tend to play very disciplined overcalls (approx 10+-16). As such, my WJO's have a broader range but deny values for a simple overcall. -
beaten in a fun game

Yeah, I kinda new that was coming when I posted it LOL. Sorry. :D It just infuriates me to see somebody try and pervert the spirit of the game, then gloat about how magnificently they did it. I actually thought I showed a fair ammount of restraint in my comments. -

arrows, if you were ever at my table I would boot you. You're behavior is completely unacceptable and the fact that you are flaunting it sickens me. This is not the first time you've gone out of your way to ridicule a player at your table. You've already been warned about using players names in such a context, but the irony is that in your attempt to humiliate someone else you've only succeeded in making yourself look like a fool. Please, no more "transcripts" from your tables. If you absolutely can't control your juvenile impulse to mock other players then do so privately and spare us all your xxxxxxx and xxxx xxxx antics. -
explanation "To play"
Cowology replied to Free's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
It would be "standard" to open that hand 1x, but not a "standard" 1x opening....if that makes any sense lol -

^^ Yup. Richard said it well. -
1S is certainly the right way for responder to begin. I like the use of 2NT (after openers 2H rebid) as GF, but without any sort of agreement we have to find an alternative so I settle for a 3D rebid and move forward from there. Sometimes we overcomplicate things in search of the "perfect solution". Sometimes, particularly with lack of specific partnership agreements, it's best to move foward in a simple and straight forward manner. 3D seems the path of least resistance. The 4C rebid seems rather pointless to me. It just eats up space and doesn't really accomplish anything. I don't particularly like Jac2NT as it is, and I certainly don't care for it here.

T.O double with 2 suiter
Cowology replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
No, not missing anything. That is exactly what I was just referring to, only I was citing specifically the example I gave of (1H)-DBL-(Pass)-2C Pass- What I ment was that after giving it some more thought it became clear that if my P responded 2C then the only ELC I could make would be 2D and thus a bid of 2S would show additional values so I wouldn't have to jump to 3S. I was excluding the possibility of a 2H bid, since that would be a direct cue of ops suit in this particular sequence and would show an entirely different type of hand than the one I was concerned with (Strong 1 suiter in S). Sorry, I just wasn't clear that this sequence was specifically what I had in mind and was not speaking genearlly of 2H and 2S bids over a 2C response. I think I understand, but thanks for clarifying anyway. My fault. I'll try and be more clear next time :) -
It's a bit more aggresive then I would be willing to go. I would want it to show at least 1 defensive trick, or something along those lines. You could succede in pushing aggresive ops into aggresive games which could be either really good or really bad for you. I prefer to have at least some definition as to the quality of the hand. I wouldn't object to a 3-12 HCP range in theory, but then you encounter the problem of placing incredible pressure on your 1C open. Not as bad in Moscito as in some other Big C systems, but still probably more trouble then it's worth. You're welcome to try it as my op though and if you have frequent success I'll just boot you and report you for abuse and cheating :)

T.O double with 2 suiter
Cowology replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Well that seems reasonable. And after having given my last post a little more thought (probably should of done that BEFORE posting lol), it occurd to me that if I dbld and then bid 2S over a 2C or 2D response that would clearly indicate that the hand was not Equal Level Conversion and so there would be no need for a jump to 3S in that sequence.....I think. :) -
T.O double with 2 suiter
Cowology replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
This sounds interesting, but I do have 1 question. Given the sequence... (1H)-DBL-(Pass)-2C Pass- Would the doubler then need to make a jump to 3D or 3S in order to show a hand with additional values? If so I'm not sure I like having to push the auction to 3S just to show 18 points and a solid S suit. -
I think that's a pretty broad range lol.

Just outa curiosity, not because I in any way actually care who North or South players are, but how do you go abut looking up hands in this manner? I didn't even know it was possible to look up other peoples logged deals somehow. -
Strong club: opening strong 2 suiters as 2S/2NT ?
Cowology replied to Chamaco's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
If you were suggesting using 2D & 2H I would not have any real big problem with the concept, but I simply can't see such a rare hand (no matter how it eases the burden on that particular sequence) justifying the use of a 2S bid which should be used as frequently as is reasonably possible for some form of pre-emption. I still prefer to use 2S to show either a weak 2 suiter, or a broken 6-8 card minor... or even just a standard Wk 2. -
2NT after partner has made a T/O dbl?
Cowology replied to badderzboy's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Both 1 and 2NT should be 'natural' and deny 4CM. I tend to play my 1NT even a little stronger; 9-11 and only occasionally include a very good 8. My 2NT is then good 11 to 12 (or occasionally a very poor 13). -
I tend to feel that way about everything relating to bridge.

After some difficulty I managed to find some information online regarding Keri (Link), but I could not find anything on "extended Keri". Would anybody happen to have a link to some source material, be able to point me in the right direction or even just explain it here if it's not to much trouble. <_<
-
Thank you for all of your replies, they have been very helpfull. I've of course always opened my 15-17 NT with a 5 card H suit (and occasional S suit) and never felt the need for Puppet Stay, but for some reason I have just never included 5CM with my Wk NT. I will definately look into Keri and balance that against Puppet and the other methods described here and discuss with my partner to discover what we will be most comfortable with. Thanks again.

If I am playing 2/1 GF with Weak NT what would be the advantages/disadvantages to including balanced hands containing a 5CM and would you recomend doing so?
