I have a user that plays regularly in my tournaments. Her username is 'AAA00' (not the real username but three letters followed by two digits). In the results somehow a space gets added between the letters and digits so it becomes 'AAA 00'. No-one with that username (including the space) exists. So where is this space coming from? She is the only one it affects. It completely screws with my results service! Your assistance would be appreciated.

Tournament seating arrangements
wnt53 replied to peterb001's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
Now how brilliant would that be, if BBO and Zoom teamed up so at the start of a tourney you join both the tourney and zoom and Zoom creates a room of 4 for each table and adjusts as the table changes. I think people would def pay for that. -
diana_eva is there any update on what's planned?

Some of my regular players are seriously slow players. They spoil a tournament for the majority. I cannot count the number of times they have been encouraged, cajoled, etc to speed up. They ignore general messages (because he must be talking about someone else not me!). For a while when I stopped making adjustments, there was an improvement, but then a bit of gamesmanship started to creep in. Faced with an impossible contract and a bottom, all of a sudden they had internet connectivity problems until the board was swept away and 50% awarded. If I allow more time, faster players get bored. I considered a 'yellow card' system - eject them after a few offences for a few games to help them mend their ways. The trouble is apportioning blame. Not a happy place. Same goes for awarding a A-- for an incomplete board for persistent offenders. At least that has some objectivity about it - no smoke without fire, etc. Hmmm, maybe... A personal message from the chairman. Tricky, for the most part the people concerned are friends and respected members of our community. Name and shame? Bold move. Perhaps too bold. Others must have the same problem, Tips?

Tournament options for Mitchells with an arrow switch
wnt53 replied to wnt53's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
Am I right in thinking there is a bug in 'unclocked'? There was no need for a revenge match in a tourney I set the other day, yet one popped up. I have to assume because the two pairs became available at the right time to start a new round. It would have been better to make them both wait a little longer and play new pairs. So far that is my only objection to 'unclocked'. It fills a nice niche for one of my weekly tourneys. -
Had an update from BBO yesterday So, we wait with bated breath...

Tournament options for Mitchells with an arrow switch

I tried 'unclocked' and the result is interesting. Single list of results. Faster players move as soon as there is an available pair to play. Slower players can play at their own pace. No adjustments to worry about. The 'unfairness', if there is any, is that faster players play faster players. If fast=better, then slow players would win a higher % playing against weak/slow players than they would playing against fast/strong players. But then in my average room each pair only meets 1/6th of the room anyway. Playing equally well on both occasions, on a good day (for them) they meet weak players and score well; on a bad day they meet the strongest and score badly. -
A wise policy I am sure. Others I have shown the email say I am being pessimistic and more opportunities might be forthcoming in August, not fewer. Perhaps an Admin could enlighten us, if not with the details, at the least with the direction of travel?

Just had this drop into my inbox. Am I alone? Is there any appeal? My c150 players are going to be seriously miffed.

I have a basic TD account. With the current restrictions , how do I / can I create a paid tournament for my 'friends' within the restricted period? The set up asks for a code which I do not have. I expect to be told I cannot, but there seemed no harm in asking... I do not want the $s just the opportunity to run an evening (UK time) game. Your advice gratefully received.

Thanks for the clarification, diana_eva. Shame. Would it not be brilliant, however, if there were a string, say, +endsoonX+, that would send a message to the tourney when it is X minutes to the end of the round... And, even more brilliant, if it were sent to the different speed sections at the right time for each. Just sayin'...

I saw this today for the first time on a BBO tourney. I can imagine what it does. But I cannot find any documentation. Is it available to any tourney or just BBO's? What does it do precisely? Is it missing the trailing '+'? Any insights gratefully received.

My club has been enjoying the benefits of pairs tournaments in lock-down using my basic TD account. 90% of the time all is well. But I keep reading of new tricks and features associated with virtual clubs - howell +allavail+ etc. What is involved in converting from a basic TD account to virtual club? Is it possible? Are $$$s involved? Any advice gratefully received.

Hi barmar OK. That is what I did. The sub was initially accepted by the system, an invitation went out, this was accepted by the player but then the actual substitution was refused by the system. I did not capture the text of the error message that popped up briefly. But it did not work. Hence my confusion and thinking ui300 was some kind of special command.

Hi diana_eva So, the last three pairs tournaments I have started all had an even number of pairs (i.e.whole tables) moments before launch and in all three cases one pair was ejected when the touney launched. These were small off-peak games. It had not happened before to me but it is now looking like a bit of a pattern. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting I have inadvertently changed. My club, understandably, are not best pleased with me! If it happens tomorrow, I will at least have your substitution workaround (subject to you confirming my understanding). But I would rather get it right first time.

Hi again diana_eva So, can I be clear about this? Sorry to be slow. You are saying I sub myself in place of the robot (even though I am seated elsewhere in the tourney - in one instance at the sit-out table itself). Then replace myself with the players I want to bring in. Then put myself back where I was originally sitting? Is that right?
-
Hi diana_eva Are you saying I type 'ui300'? What then happens? Thanks for your help

Hi diana_eva I am quite certain the string was typed correctly, all lower case no typos no spaces and a space after, before the rest of the description. And I was online and watching the start. I was playing in the Tourney. However, I am now suspicious that +allavail+ is not the problem. I had a tourney this morning and right before the start there were an even number of pairs. A second after the launch and a pair had been ejected and we had a sit-out. I did not know who they were so lived with it. Really annoying though. I see someone else has asked if this code is applicable to all tourneys.

Please excuse my novice TD questions. According to Richard Morici's post on April 2, 2020 in relation to Virtual ACBL Club Manager, "You should start all of your descriptions with +allavail+ followed by a space. This allows the game to delay for a minute or two when you have players offline or a half table. By starting with it you won’t forget later." https://blog.bridgebase.com/2020/04/02/the-virtual-acbl-club-manager-manual/. I have been advised by other experienced TDs to do the same. Yet, since I have been adding the code, I have twice had issues with players being summarily ejected at the last minute and thus a sit-out created. I did not have this before. Worse, on the second occasion, I was unable to substitute the sit-out players with the real ones in the lobby. The first time I was at least able to insert a couple of random substitutes (I could not insert the ejected players because by then they were playing another tourney, at least that's what I thought at the time). So, does +allavail+ do what Richard suggests and I have just been unlucky or had some other issue? Or does it actually do something different, i.e. start the tourney with only those available at the time the clock counts down? The latter is more consistent with the evidence in front of me right now. However, it has arisen, is there a way to substitute sit-out positions with known players (players that have not marked themselves as available for substitution)? When I have tried, repeatedly, the invitation is issued, the player accepts and there is then an error message and they do not get to join. That should not happen, right? Here's hoping I have missed something obvious.

Nothing is perfect but, if I have a tournament expecting 5-7 tables, I'd like to use a Mitchells with an arrow switch. Which is the option in the BBO tournament set-up to generate such a movement, or as close as BBO can manage that produces one list of results? I have seen the results from some tournaments set up this way, but there is no obvious setting to achieve this outcome. Your advice gratefully received.

I'm having the same problem today having upgraded to macOS Sierra 10.12 Update:Clearing my cache fixed it
