  1. This is not an argument, but I was wondering what reputation (as in keeping long-term track, not per post) is good for, except for creating something to wank about. I would appreciate if someone would explain to me why having a good reputation or bad one is important on THESE forums, and if it's displayed on the forums in any other way than by clicking on someone's profile. I would understand the concern if it showed up under username when one posts, but I don't think it does (unless I'm missing it and then would appreciate it). I will admit that I was one of those interpreting the +/- votes as "agree/disagree", not as "agree/you're inappropriate" as others seem to, and so will amend my use of the - if that's the group consensus. I also think that it would be nice to be able to take back one's +/- votes, especially after a post is edited. For example, PlayerX might make a post that says "Bridge is a wonderful complex game", and it could be upvoted a bunch. He could then change his post to read "I hate Fred", and then all those who upvoted would appear to be on record as upvoting the second post. In other words, it would be nice if one could take back one's +/- vote if one changes one's mind.
  2. Adam's favorite part was when Jon was stopped and his friends recited the Night's Watch Oath. My favorite was when the NW set off in force northwards. The dragons looked a bit too cute to me. But Adam seemed to like that scene. I don't really know why. I can't believe that I have to wait for April AGAIN! It should come around quickly, though, it feels like just yesterday that GRRM was giving casting clues and I couldn't wait a year then for the first episode.
  3. There's a button to the side of the voting button that says show results. If you click on that you can see the results without voting.
  4. 2♠ + 2♥ + 1♦ = FAIL and that's being very generous to declarer.
  5. Only influences people who look at the results before voting. I know that I've been wrong about people's general habits before, but are there really many people who do that? I would think that much more common would be people who read all the comments and then vote.
  6. Of course I saw that, it was front page news there. But who is silly enough to have the same username/password combo on different sites that you can spend money?
  7. I do know other bridge players who are members of ravelry, and I know someone else who is a member of both forums, but he is not a frequent poster, and has not posted on this thread. The only thing I'm excited about for our move is being close to Stitches West (I've never been). I want to meet your coworkers! :)
  8. On another forum (I'm not bothering to name it because I would bet money that no one who's posted in this thread is a regular member) they have a whole array of voting choices on the bottom of posts. The choices include "agree" and "disagree". It works really well in the part of the forum that is related to technique, although there is some wanking about "phantom disagreers", but not as much as could be expected. Basically, the agree and disagree aren't up and down votes, so they remain displayed, and you can see if a post is controversial, widely agreed with, widely disagreed with, or a non-boat-rocker. Other choices include "educational" and "interesting". I think that's even better than just having a vote up button, because there are many reasons people might want to vote up a post, and this is more specific.
  9. I wish him lots of luck in that crusade. I don't understand why they're disabled.
  10. That's funny. When I watched Smurfs he had a different name.
  11. There's also a Persian trick-taking game, Hokm. Or something of the sort.
  12. Not if you say it to me, even in front of a director.
  13. I realize that we have an international audience, and do not wish to get all grammarian, but sentences begin with CAPITALS! It helps us read. Though I don't know if anything really helps us understand. Inability to spell, poor word choice, can't construct sentences? Doesn't matter. But please, CAPITALS!!!! They're your friend.
  14. I agree with han Unfortunately, I can't vote this up more than once. :(
  15. Ok. I answered my own (first) question. It's on a person's profile, if anyone else is wondering. I still think that this should be upvotes per posts statistic.
  16. I thought so, but now want to know how you know that you received more than 100 upvotes. Plus, isn't upvotes per number of posts a more important statistic? I propose a new thread discussing BBOforums ratings, especially since we haven't had a good BBO ratings thread recently. (Recently=last few hours)
  17. How do you know that you broke 100 plus upvotes? Do you mean that you voted up things 100 times, or your posts were upvoted 100 times?
  18. Yes, but adding the age thing, and bridge ability, all sounds rather condescending. And social vs. tournaments is also a non-exclusive dichotomy. It might surprise you but I feel that I fit into both. I enjoy playing bridge (granted, I would play at the club more by choice if certain people did not play there) and view playing at the club as a social opportunity. But I like going to tournaments and enjoy competing against the best bridge players I can (considering certain TDs don't let me play up in KOs unless its someone else on my team requesting it). And I know of others who feel the same way (for one of my regular partners bridge IS her social activity, and yet she reads bridge literature, and goes to tournaments to compete).
  19. I'm pretty sure that you will see her this week. Don't hold your breath for the white walkers appearing soon.
  20. Starting with Episode 7, HBO will have episodes a week early on HBOGo. But you'll still have to wait a week between them! Sorry.
  21. Everyone is in A, usually about 2/3 in B, and 1/3 in C. Everyone can place in A, but only those in B or C can place in those categories.
  22. TBH, this is the MOST COMMON theory of his birth. And we have now made this a complete spoiler thread for those like Justin who haven't read the books. Of course, it doesn't state this in the books (yet)... I take it none of you three debating this are regular readers of either westeros.org? Another useful place is towerofthehand.com Westeros has a gathering of prophecies in the books, that are really interesting to re-read and speculate about.
  23. And where did I claim that because he was not American, therefore he's British? I was just eliminating one possible country. If you read that implication, that's your problem.
  24. Definitely native English speaker, definitely not American. And most definitely BORING!!!
