  1. im confused about that one a lot ... why is director at the table ?? did opps called for it after they get a bad result based on ur bidding ? i mean u can surely do whatever u want director dont have to deal with psyche assumoing of course that there is no club tournament rule about it ... now if ur question is about a teaching question or information that is totally different and i guess soem already give u an answer on that one ... regards sylvain
  2. i guess i will let professional answer about the chore of the question (even of course i have my opinion on that ) as for my answer i will just put my 2 cents . we all know that if there is "a problem" in a board (bidding or play) before deciding to change the result or anything u need to see if the action taken that causes "the problem" really did bring the opponent to the bad result . in other way should we considere that ur double of 2D (showing D) is responsible of the bad result of 3H (bidding or play ) as i can see in ur message, for the play surely the answer is "no" ur partner apparently got AKxxxx in D and will surely lead it whatever , for the bidding i dont know? if ur double show D i suspect that with 5 or 6 card in D i will probably not let my opps play at 3H assuming i have 10 or 11 card fit in D. that migth mean ur partner has an idea that u can play that one short . all that said as an opponent i will do nothing about this board cause i considere (no offense intended) that deciding that u want to ruff when u are long in trump is a very bad idea most of the time (if not always) . last things and to conclude i really dotn understand why this seems to be bothering u ... i mean one things is sure in bridge u can always do anything u want IF OF COURSE , ur partner dont understand about ur "everything" . clearly here we can feel u were not doing anything bad on purpose , opps are mad because they get a bad result ?? uts ok ... pay them a heineken at the end of the tournament ... :) regards sylvain -jjsb)
  3. i dont see any reason to bid over 1H when i have the suit .. i know some who will think about 2H ... as for the 4H contract , i admit i just cant believe that there is that much not doubling this...i know if its not a spectacular hand it will not be posted as a problem here but i have to answer honestly . opps are playing with a 8 card fit (at best)with 23 HP (at best)and trump are 5-0 ... come on.. well of course if the question is asked its because its a make but i don't even want to think about it .. and after all its just 170 more and 4 imps if made? im pretty sure there is some few scenario that this is not ending with only 1 down ... bridge is becoming so much more aggressive and so harder , if ur not going to "punish" the aggressive player bidding game with 22 23 HP (i mean with modern bridge im not even 100% sure partner is blank here...) when things looks going wrong for them well they will just surely continue to put pressure on u . i will lead Ace of H and depending on dummy if it looks problematic i will try to play for 10 of S in partner hand for the one down regards syl
  4. it will not make u feel better but i dont have the bidding skills also to bid the slam here :) im surprised to hear so many opening 1H with that hand and apparently for some its actually normal i can see that the standard opening is getting weaker and weaker :) honestly even i know how bridge has changed the last couple of year in term of agressivity i just cant make a 1H opening . personally i am into a 4H bid and so of coruse will not do any better than what happened with u... may i ask what is the score u had for 4H +3 ? i would be super surprised if u tell me u get 10% with every table bidding 6 or 7 . i will take risk but i would actually think u get super close to 50% if not more. as for the question bidding 7 "by the good side" is totally irrelevant as some other point out im pretty sure we(bridge player) in a bridge season are doing much more bigger mistake than not finding a 7H with those hands.... regards syl
  5. both idea looks ok for me as long as u discuss it with partner ...and also as long as u dont play hide and seek with a convention liek that and bid natural when u should ... personally for me its pass nothing to say double showings cards mostly balanced nothing to say rest natural (with priority to the pass and double action !!! )
  6. there is 2 things in that hand IMO 1) its surely tricky 2) despite the fact its tricky i dotn think there is a way i will not bid this slam for me the start is 1D (1H) x the fouble is denying 4S and i dont see how opener cant rebid below 3D starting like that even if north is balanced there is too many GOOD POINTS not to go to slam when opener will say he has a H control so i think something like 1D (1H) x 3D 4D 4H 4nt 5S 5nt 6 or 7D 7D looks promising from that point counting 11 top ticks with just the 3 aces promised and surely north dont have only those 3 aces with nothing . i dont like biddign 7 without counting to 13 thougth so i will just stop at 6D
  7. 2nt is either 12-14 or 18-19 balanced ,that means 3nt is in the 15-17 zone and so unbalanced ,most frequently a 4441 regards sylvain
  8. as u maybe notice in the BBO vugraph there is now the africa zonal. we are i nthe middle of the event basically and the 2 "monsters" of the zone (south africa and egypt ) dominate the event thougth our small island hosting the event for the first time ever try to "survive" :) see results in http://www.district-bridge-reunion.fr/zonal/ some interesting deals were played of course so here we are board 1) noone vulnerable [hv=pc=n&n=sj74hkqt952dak5c5]133|100[/hv] P P 4S ? board 2) ur north [hv=pc=n&n=st9843hqj4daj5c64&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=1c1d1h1s2h2s4h]133|200[/hv] board 3) leading with Jxx Kxx xxx Axxx after the auction went : [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p4sp4np5sp6sppp]133|100[/hv] board 4) i let u bid this one with ur favourtie partner :)north dealer(Heart's hand) Ax AK1098x xx AKx Kxxxx xx AKQJxx void regards sylvain (jjsb)
  9. sorry i try again as its very confusing to read .. 1) [hv=pc=n&e=s96hk7dq643ck6432&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=3sp4sdp]133|200[/hv] 2) [hv=pc=n&e=s94ht5dakq8654c52&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=p1s2c]133|200[/hv] if u bid 2D then its : [hv=pc=n&e=s94ht5dakq8654c52&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=p1s2c2d3c3hp]133|200[/hv] if u double then its : [hv=pc=n&e=s94ht5dakq8654c52&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=p1s2cdp2hp]133|200[/hv] (dont ask me why there is 3C in one case and not in another ... its what happened at the table ...
  10. hello there :) despite our terrible bad match that i/we played yesterday on that "jec's match" (sorry for those watching lol ) there is few boards that i really want to share ur seated in East 1) none vulnerable ur holding xx Kx Qxxx Kxxxx W N E S 3S P 4S x P ? 2) all vulnerable ur holding xx xx AKQxxxx xx W N E S P 1S 2C ? if u double ur partner bid 2H , ur turn if u bid 2D South bid 3C ur partner bid 3H , to u now 2 theorical question i believe there is a different vision (or at least i heard there is) in 2 over 1 fg about the basic start of auction 1M 2m. where "i am" (and i think its mostly a french concept) we considere that other bid than repetition shows extra . and so repetition doesnt show 6 cards . to make it clear 1S 2C 3C shows extra 1S 2D 2Nt also extra 1S 2D 3C also extra etc what do u think about all that ? in that match i did have for exemple KQ10xx Kxx void A10xxx on a 1S 2D i didnt want to rebid 3C (my D void scared me) last one : u hold xx Kxx AKQxx AQx open 1D and on 1S u bid 2nt and ur partner "quant" u with 4nt for me assuming that i have opened 1D i didnt have to bid 6D to show 5 , 5D w
  11. FG . very few auction can make us stop if 2C comes from a strong 2H 2S hand regards sylvain
  12. i think no way to answer that without more precision , but im not a 1S bidder for sure , in 3rd im pretty sure im a 3S bidder , and in first or second i will just pass , lack of value for a level 1 and my p will never be able to see that hand if i open a 2suiter opening . my very humble opinion im sure everything is acceptable but u just need to be consistent on what ur doing and just discuss with partner sylvain
  13. basically , in bbo u just cant have 16 identical result (i never seen it if someone had one pls paste and copy) so with a hand like that when u said "result were all over the place" i think i see what u mean :) ok all that said there is nothing sure in that hand , just that as said previously im not going to play 3nt. they migth have 4S we migth have a minor contract they migth lead wrongly so im bidding 5D and open my eyes then on the lead now for system , not sure why we discuss this with my p when we do have so much more thigns to discuss more important but on 3nt we do play 4D is asking for dhortness and 4nt is askign for a Q or a 8 card as we migth one of those. all the rest is natural regards syl
  14. dealer west , auction free of opps overcall i let u bid that "no finesse 7 nt" Ax AKxxxxx (7) Ax Ax xxx Qxx xxx KQJx as u will probably see the key of that contract is to discover that extra J of C so i let u show me ur sequence to bid that one here is what happen in our table 2C 2D 2H 3H 3S 4C(x) 4D 5C 6C 6H i had the 7222 bid. i believe the start of the auction (to 3S) is kinda "standard" thougth im pretty sure i migth find some difference then probably the way too intellectual 6C bid makes it too hard for my partner to understand my problem . i wanted it to be like "ok u tell me u have KQ of C but i want a little bit more do u have the J or a 5th one ?" my partner told me that he has done more than enough "sound" so far with his 4333 and that i have way enough to bid 7H . he is probably rigth but want ur opinion. 3nt would be serious for us by the way (on 3S that is) not sure at all for me is that hand is a serious or a non serious ... regards sylvain (jjsb)
