A Moysean Minor Game.
jetkro replied to jetkro's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I am having difficulty understanding why many people think that 3C must be a genuine suit. Would it not be appropriate to bid 3C with say: x, AJxxxx, xxx, AKx ? Or must one gamble 4H or 3NT? -
A Moysean Minor Game.
jetkro replied to jetkro's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Sorry for the absence of cards. KQJ972 K KT KT64 8 A97653 AJ4 A72 1S - 2H 2S - 3C 4C - 5C -
The bidding started : 1S - 2H 2S - ? The system was SAYC. What should south bid now? If South bids 3C, then what should north's next bid be? If north bids 4C, then how should south proceed after that? the actual auction went like this: 1S 2H 2S 3C 4C 5C minus 1 for a big loss. Any suggestions for a better outcome?

Is this a 1NT overcall?
jetkro replied to jetkro's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Is it reasonable to say the following? I can safely pass this hand because if we have a game on then surely my pard will be able to reopen. So I miss nothing, and avoid a possible penalty. In fact I like to play my 1NT overcalls as 16-18 or 17-19 as in Kaplan-Sheinwold. -

I didnt like my hand without a source of tricks or a long suit and I was worried about LHO possibly doubling me. I cannot see how my partner is supposed to balance. Was this an avoidable result or just one of those things?

Bidding over a second hand pre-empt
jetkro replied to jetkro's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
When I bid 4 Diamonds I had not discussed the principle of Equal Level Conversion with my partner, obviously an error. But, assuming that we had been on the same wavelength, I would have been a bit nervous of a correction to 4 Spades had he held 3 spades and 2 diamonds. -

This a very poor result for NS as 5h was cold. After having bid 4C in an attempt to enlist partner's help later on in the auction, I passed the double, having felt that I had shown my hand, whereas my gut feeling was to bid 5H. If I had faced the situation which occurred at many other tables, where east had bid 4S directly, then I am sure I would have bid 5H myself. Anyone care to apportion the blame?

We could probably make 3H and we lost about 3 and a 1/2 IMP playing on OK bridge. I toyed with a negative double over 2C, but was worried about being endplayed by a 2S response. After the reopening double was the penalty conversion correct or was this now the moment to introduce the heart suit?

[hv=d=s&v=n&n=satxhaqjxdxxxcaxx&s=skqjxxxhxxdjckqxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Playing SAYC we bid: 1S - 2C - 3C - 4S - All Pass The heart finesse was off, the spades broke, and we made 5. 1. Is there a better sequence, one that at least sniffs at slam? We play that 2NT is Jacoby, and that 3 of a minor is Bergen. 2. What is the percentage chance of success for 6S?

It is not clear to me why this is not a FP auction. 1. Surely north bid 4H to make; not as a sacrifice? However it was bid under pressure and could be wide ranging. 2. East's unusual 4S bid is undoubtedly a sacrifice. Did he discover a 7th spade? Are the conditions not right for FP to apply? jetkro

The scoring was IMP's and no one was vulnerable. Dealer East. East: 2S ( weak ) South: 3H West : 3S North: 4H East : 4S I would like to know if the N/S players are now in a forcing pass auction. An additional question: What would it mean if North had bid 4D instead of 4H? Natural or fit showing non jump? Thanks, Jetkro.

Hi, I apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed in the past. I open 1D with xx, AQx, KJxxx, QJx. Responder bids 1H. I like to be able to raise to 2H on my hand, even though I am balanced. Could anyone suggest a simple scheme for the partnership to use when they want to try for game or force to game? Also in which strain will they play if opener could hold three hearts? Thanks, jetkro.
