  1. I hadn't thought of suggesting people use bid confirmation -particularly useful for iPads with their issues of delayed response.
  2. For a small, friendly club running two tournaments a week of around 11 tables, I enable the 'undo' facility. However, over the last few weeks issues have arisen. The current policy is to either immediately allow an undo or to call the director for a ruling. However, some are denying requests without recourse to the director, whilst others appear to be using the undo for a change of mind rather than a 'mechanical error' -both issues cause ill-feeling. I am changing the policy to: a) requests for undo must be made immediately (allowing for time to find then click on the undo request) b) for bidding, a change of suit or level is permitted but not both, or adjacent buttons (eg Pass and Double) c) for cards, near-adjacent cards are permitted to be undone. d) the director must agree any denial of an undo request. It would seem a shame to have to not enable the undo facility as misclicks do occur. Does anyone else running tournaments for small clubs have any thoughts or advice?
  3. I also have had a tournament where two pairs were logged in at the start of the tournament (May 21st). Both pairs saw the initial welcome message then say the tournament disappeared. I did not see them in the list of tables. I do not know why this happened. I am now warning participants that they may be ejected without warning at the start of the tournament.
  4. I would be very careful about switching to unclocked. Even if you remove all pairs not on line with two minutes to go to find out what the number is likely to be, there is always the chance -and if it can go wrong, it will- that at the last minute one pair don't get in. You will then have to fill the sitouts tables otherwise that table will never move, and the tournament will grind to a halt. If the option to put in named subs works then have two people on standby just in case. But that option doesn't always work, particularly if there is heavy use at the time.
  5. I have repeatedly had the same problem, once getting a 3.00pm game going on the fourth attempt at 3.55pm. It seems that if there are over 46,000 players on-line at the start of the tournament you may well experience problems. The earlier you start, the better your chances...
  6. We now routinely leave in the sitouts -obviously the tournament has to be 'timed' otherwise the sitout table never move. Replacing with named subs sometimes works, sometimes doesn't -error message is that it didn't work. Replacing with random subs has been a real headache, with subs often dropping out after a couple of boards and being repeatedly replaced. If less than seven tables, I change the movement to 15/18 boards, three board rounds at the last moment. This means pairs only sitout once, albeit for 24 mins, max. With two board rounds, pairs can sitout several times if you aren't careful. Maybe not standard practice, but it works for us -members are more willing to have a sitout than to play against random players who may, or may not, be friendly.
  7. I'm assuming that there are limits now of 20 pairs. Is there documentation anywhere that lists limits? It is a bit frustrating to set up a tournament and only find when it starts that you have exceeded a limit.
  8. Set up a pairs tournament, had 18 pairs registered, tournament failed to start with all registered pairs getting message "Error=Too many teams". Tried to redo tournament (twice) but each time this error message appeared. Any idea what the problem is?
  9. In a Pairs Tournament with timed rounds, can sitouts positions be left 'as is'? Will players move at the end of the round? We have had bad experiences with using subs and members would prefer to sit out a round rather than play with ever-changing subs, and for the the TD to adjust scores at the end.
  10. In a small diamond contract declarer intended to ruff a spade at trick three. Instead they played a heart, claiming the trick, but no-one noticed. It was only at the end that the error came to light. Is this a revoke?
