  1. Thank you! What I didn't put in my original post is that LHO was a large, physically intimidating man, and my partner is a 95 pound little old lady. From my viewpoint across the table, it initially looked like she reached for the bidding box and he batted her hand away. I got extremely angry. Upon reflection, I realized that it was just a coincidence that they both reached for the box at the same time and his large hand won. That situation was resolved to everyone's satisfaction. I probably shouldn't even have included that as an example, because it just got me to thinking and what I really wanted to know is if ACBL has rules specific to physical contact.
  2. Thanks for your reply. You didn't address my question about the physical contact. It was not a situation of simply covering the bidding box.
  3. In a F2F tournament, my partner reached for the bidding box and LHO reached over and put a hand over partners bidding box to block partner from bidding, resulting in physical contact with partner's hand. LHO said afterwards that the circumstance was that partner had to wait 10 seconds before bidding. Obviously, LHO could have just said that and should never have used a hand to block. I got rather angry and told LHO how inappropriate this was, partner couldn't have cared less. LHO did apologize. I didn't call the director. My question is, are there rules that would cover this situation, and if so, how serious an infraction would it be? My personal feeling was that this was extremely serious and the player probably should have been thrown out of the tournament, but nobody other than me seemed to think it was a big deal.
  4. BBO staff addressed the issue very promptly after I reported it and resolved it satisfactorily. Thank you Trisha and Shelagh! :)
  5. I was playing one of the $1.75 ACBL pairs tournaments(#8227) and made a director call about the 3rd trick in on hand 12. No response. I called again near the end of the hand, and I did get the pop-up saying a director was at the table, but I never heard anything from the director. Right now, I'm really p***ed off about this. Am I expecting too much?
  6. Thanks to everyone for all the great replies! The encouraging thing is that it doesn't looked like I've missed anything simple, I am more or less on the suggested path already, but I have gotten quite a few great ideas here that I'm going to look into further. Thanks much!
  7. Hi All, I hope this question isn't too general, my apologies if so. I'm a relative newbie, and I like to play the robot duplicate(MP & IMP) games. Gives me a priceless opportunity to compare my play against better players on the same hands! What I note is that my bidding isn't too bad, I get roughly the same bids as the better players roughly 75% of the time. I'm working on improving this aspect and making progress. At the same time, the results show that I'm getting clobbered on the play of the hands. Every time I'm pleased that I've made a 3NT contract, the better players will make +2 or 3. I've worked through the Seagram/Bird book and learned a lot from it. Other than more reading and practice, can anyone offer any suggestions of how I might improve in this area? I DO make a plan up front for every hand, but when I look at the results, most of the time I don't have a clue as to how the better players have squeezed out the extra tricks. I do know that I'm not yet great at analyzing the bidding and identifying the 'danger hand', but so often there isn't any information if the bidding. I apologize if I'm wasting anyone's time, but any suggestions would be appreciated!
  8. Wow! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I installed the BBO software on my PC and now I can step through the play of the hands side by side! BBO is truly awesome! Thanks so much for your help!
  9. Hi All, I'm a relative bridge newbie, been on BBO for awhile but not very knowledgeable about all BBO's features. I recently started playing the robot duplicate $0.25 MP games to hone my skills and get an idea of where I stand as compared to others. I find that my bidding is adequate(with plenty of room for improvement), but I'm getting killed on the play of the hands, over and over again most of the players will be winning more tricks than I do. Aside from the mistakes I make, often I just cannot fathom how anyone could squeeze more tricks out of the hands. Is there any way to see how the others played these hands? OR is there another area of BBO where I can play hands and then see how others played them? Thanks much for any suggestions!
  10. Hi all, I apologize if this has been asked elsewhere - I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer. I'm a relative newbie, I just started playing bridge last December. I'm pretty good at playing hands, probably an advanced beginner in terms of bidding. I often play against the robot and I think it's a great learning tool for me. What I'd like to know, is how do players rack up so many points? I sometimes see 15000 or more at the top of the leaderboard list, yet the most I've been able to rack up is around 2500, in about half an hour of play. That's on my best day - ordinarily I wouldn't have 15000 if I played 24 hrs straight. Are these scores just from pure bridge skills? If so, I tip my hat to you!
