For those thinking its all about the points
FrankerZ replied to thepossum's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
This isn't a GIB problem really. If you're going to bid 2♣ with a flattish hand that I wouldn't upgrade to 2NT, you can't exactly complain when it wakes up with a 10 count and thinks 6 something is a good spot. Pretty standard either 1♠ - 3♠ - stop in game or 2NT - 3NT depending on how aggro you upgrade NT-like shapes -
From day 2 of this weekend's free event. I'm baffled as to the logic of what the East robot is doing here - I can only assume it has some "logic" where it goes "if not 11 hcp then don't open at 1 level" and "if suit quality is too strong then don't preempt" and hence it does neither and misses a good game as a result? Any ideas? Have sent an automated report but I've no idea if these are ever looked at
-
Yeah, I'm done with these, I normally played the total points one, you're needing pretty much a two game swing rather than one now to break even. Just going to play the fast four boards and nothing else paid going forward, which given the volume I play more or less guarantees BBO will probably get precisely one more deposit for the rest of the year
-
It is not a rating system, the same as your raw total of IRL master points is not a rating system
-
Also just noticed the 50% rise in the quarter hourly non-reward fast 4 board event. Why would anyone ever play one of these compared to the reward version now?
-
Hmm, that's quite a big drop. Compared to the eyewatering 40% price rise of the other daylongs (and, for that matter, the pathetic return on the 4 board express tournaments), it's not that big of a deal, but will certainly make me think before depositing again. Edit - it is an additional shame as it's one of the few robot tournaments that isn't best hand. Some of us like to defend now and again.
-
I have also been having this problem, usually around this time of day. Goes away eventually, but annoying as hell if I want to get some boards in before work
-
Having just had 20 minutes wasted by someone making a suicidal idiotic sacrifice, I'd just be happy if the tournaments respected people's ignore list, so that if we have previous data on someone's "unique way" being moronic, we don't get penalised twice
-
Just as I'd got used to the inferior non-Flash version, they then go and make it even worse. How hard is it to realise that redesigning for the sake of redesigning is not a good idea?

Indicate which player has rejected a claim
FrankerZ replied to FrankerZ's topic in Suggestions for the Software
I wasn't aware that there's a specific list of reasons why a player would choose to ignore another player, and that deliberate timewasting isn't among that list -
Just been playing one of the fast 4 board automated tournaments, had the following hand: Receive a trump lead, draw in two, claim 12 tricks. Rejected. OK, maybe they don't get that I can dump a minor loser on the fourth heart. Play four rounds of hearts, discard the club, reclaim 12 tricks, note "just lose Ad" in the claim. Rejected. OK, maybe whoever has the ace of diamonds is misreading the claim and is thinking I'm claiming the rest. Lay down Kd, North takes the ace. I claim the rest. Rejected. At this point I'm bored so I just play it out. Can we at least see *who* is rejecting a claim, rather than just that the claim is rejected? Time's short and I'd like to be able to put people who are deliberately wasting time by forcing the play out of trivial hands onto the enemies list, but I have no idea which opponent is the timewaster. Thoughts?

Also saw some of the usual 39 cent daylongs listed at 59 cents, not touching them for now

"Just Declare" Is Not Real Bridge
FrankerZ replied to USViking's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Yep, got to agree here, first we had two free daylongs a day, then we had one, then we had three a week, now those three a week are only on certain days as I'm not playing a tournament where we only get half a game -

Not sure what to make of that pass, system indicates that I'm only promising three diamonds, so I don't know why it doesn't show hearts/clubs/anything other than pass? I can't really rebid spades and indicate I have six...

http://tinyurl.com/q667klx Just had this hand occur in one of the free automated tournaments. I would have thought it would recognise that it should bid over this double and let us make a fairly straightforward 4S?
-
I'd assume it was basic. Whichever one they use to replace people dropping out of the automated tournaments.

Hand Lost for words. Any explanation as to why the robot thinks its play at trick 5 could ever be a good idea?
