  1. I would play ♣Q in trick 2, pretending doubleton in hand and hope opp does not duck it, so I can return to hand and finesse with ♥Q
  2. Hi all, I don't know where to put this thread to so I just post it here. To prepare for a pairs event tomorrow in a local club, my partner and I would like to find opponents to play BBO today for practice. I believe we are intermediate in BBF standard but we are not convinced by the general BBO users. And since we are from HK, the tournments held by BBF are at midnight so we are not able to join. So, any regular partners are willing to play with us today at around 8:00pm GMT+8 (12:00 GMT/7:00am ET) for about 2hrs? Thanks!
  3. Board 2: The only clear line to me is ♦22 break with ♠43 break. So the play for me would be ♥A ♣K ♠ ruff ♦A ♠ruff ♣ruff ♠ruff Then hopefully the ♠ can discard 3 small hearts Board 6: For my partner and me, the 3NT is serious for us and we will probably stop at 6♠ for that hand. Board 9: Clueless from me, so I would play the 3rd ♦ Board 12: 3♠ (simple invite) Board 14: ♠2 Board 16: 3♠ Board 21: Yes Board 24: (is it RHO overcalled 2♥ 3NT for me though I think pass could be a wise option. Board 27: Pass
  4. This is a clueless question about myself. My RHO opened a weak 1NT and the auction went as follows (1NT) - 2♣* - (2♥) - P -(P) Then I asked RHO "Is 2♥ non forcing?" My pd had asked the exactly same question some time ago!
  5. For my partnership, rebidding 1NT over opp's suit does not guarantee a stopper. So we are happy opening 1♣ with 44m.
  6. I think it should be a cuebid, as the opener is not sure about the strength of his partner, the contract may be stopped at ♥ game or slam. Edit: I was completely ignoring the brackets lol.
  7. Just to clarify a little bit, we are playing 5533. I fully understand opening 1♦ if we play 5542, but we think it is a little bit unnatural and there will be too many cases opening 1♣.
  8. Another thing intriguing me is that in "fundamental" books in bridge, "experts" suggest when you are holding 4♣ and 4♦ (of course 4432 or 4441), you open 1♦. From what I remember, their main logic is that you can bid 2♣ after 1♦ without reversing bid. But as far as I am concerned, we rebid 1NT for all balanced hands (maybe some semi-balanced), so rebidding 1 major means the hand is unbalanced and the two suits should be as least 54 (except 1♦-1♥/♠/NT-2♣ which can be 45 if ♦ is strong enough and the hand is not enough to reverse, as we play canape for this series), which means 1. when we hold (32)44, we rebid 1NT 2. when we hold 4144, after 1m-1♥, we rebid 1♠ or 1NT 3. when we hold 1444, after 1m-1♠, we rebid 1NT I know rebidding 1NT with a 4441 hand is not traditional, but as least the singleton is from the partner's suit which should give some guarantee and protection. Another advantage of opening 1♦ is that you can prevent opp overcalling 1♦ (though when I hold 44 minor, the possibility of overcalling 1♦ is limited) OTOH if I open 1♣ if partner has a game forcing hand with 2 suits (e.g. 5♣/♦+4 majors) we can find a fit in minor for bidding slam. Also we could stop at 2♣/♦ for partials. Do I missing something important that opening 1♦ is superior to 1♣ that I do not know?
  9. Thanks for all of your comments, they are very helpful. In fact, we have decided to return to the very basic, i.e. the default meaning of 2NT and Michaels. And for ♠+minor, we just bid 1♠. Aside from all kinds of conventions I am trying to memorize, I resist to put more burden to my brain. And in fact, personally I do not like the 2NT/Michaels conventions too much. More often it is providing information to your opponents than getting a contract.
  10. Hello all My partner and I were arguing about whether to use the unusual 2NT when opp opened 1 minor as 1. lowest two suiters 2. another minor + unknown major i.e. if opp opens 1♦, 2NT means ♣+♥ in 1 and ♣+♥/♠ in 2. He thinks 1 is better because major is more important, once the auction is preempted by opp we can hardly compete. e.g. (1♦)-2NT-(5♦) << hard to decide whether to risk the 5 level major. He suggested to use blue 2 suiters to solve it. (3♣ = ♠+♣) But I am reluctant to give up 3 ♣ as the preemptive bid so I prefer 2. Any thoughts?
