  1. AKQJT,xx,xx, KQxx 1nt? Ok, Im gradualy learning which rules must be followed and which can be ignored. Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I only meant 5332 distributions with 5CM. AKQJT-xx-xxx-KQx would be more like it, although, as I said, I would open 1NT with AKQJT-xx-xxx-KJx as well. But let's say that you agree to play better minor, and in the course of the event you discover that you and your partner understand it differently and with ♦T873 ♣AKJ one of you always open 1♣, and the other one 1♦. Do you go to the authorities with a request to be disqualified because of your irresolvable differences?
  2. Jillybean, there are people who *always* open 1NT with a 5CM, and other who would *never* do that. Are you saying they can't be partners? After all if they say they sometimes do it, that would be the truth, right? B) I know I have my idiosyncrasies, and most of the people I know have their own. If you insist on full compatibility, the game is doomed.
  3. Me too. For the same reasons I can't bid 4NT as natural and invitational as it would look like a RKCB in ♠.
  4. Thank you, Adam, for bringing back some sanity into the thread. Different judgement does not necessarily mean different systems. Playing 15-17 NT I routinely upgrade 14 HCP 5332 hands to 1NT. Should I be barred from playing with partners who would never do that? There are countless other examples.
  5. Happy birthday, Helene! B)
  6. Where is my bidding box? Box where you bid? Box price? Price of the box? Money box? Piggy bank? Piggy bank? Let me play the no trump dear. Let the love of my trump. I let love trump card. Let's ace I love. Let's ace I love. Adding a simple comma changes it completely: Let me play the no trump, dear. My trump card, hey let's play. My trump card can play a little. You can play most of my trump card. You can play most of my trump card. Sounds like HAL when you take out his memory banks. Deteriorates into nonsense, then starts repeating itself. But he bid out of order! However, the bid out of order! The order of bidding! Order bid! Bid online! (Yeah, baby) Bids! ¥! ¥! This one wins the shortest outcome. Next one is scary. Something unpronounceable happened, and this time the translator doesn't hesitate much: And then I ruffed his Ace. And I Esuerimakikitsunezaru him. And I Esuerimakikitsunezaru him.
  7. Double, then jump to 3♠ would be my actions too. I don't even think it's such an underbid, looks like describing my hand perfectly.
  8. We have a rule here that doubled part scores require a trump lead. Even though i wouldn't double here (for the same reasons as Double !), I would treat the favorable vulnerability as a doubled contract, and still lead a small ♠.
  9. Isn't this more than a mere intuition but actually standard with no known fit, and searching for NT? When opps have bid one suit, que-bidding ask for a stopper, but with two suits, you bid the one that you stop asking for a stopper in the other.
  10. Not having special gadgets for these sort of hands I rebid 3NT. This describes my hand best. Theoretically partner could pass 2NT when absolutely minimal.
  11. I agree. So liking both my red suits as well as the blacks 1♥ seems obvious.
  12. I don't want partner to get excited too much, so 2♠ then 5♣ over 3♣.
  13. I am with these guys here.
  14. Anything could be right but I pass. I play strong/weak Michaels so I would have used it instead of 1♠.
  15. I agree with karlson and all the others who pass now but would have bid 5♣ instead of 4.
  16. I am raising partner to 4♥. When there is little chance of winning the contract the purpose of the raising is to show a top honor so that partner knows she can lead in the suit safely. Call me a chicken but I don''t double in any of the cases. Dummy is void in ♥ after all. Where are the setting tricks going to come from?
  17. I don't think LHO will convert the double very often when we have doubleton support. He will bid something and we won't be able to show our values if p doesn't act. That's easy too. With 6♥ partner would repeat them, with 15 HCP in her she'll double, but she could as well pass after which I'll reopen with a double, and instead of playing in our misfit doubled we'll play in opps' misfit doubled. Partner will know that: 1. I don't have 3 hearts, and 2. that I don't have a five cards suit which I would have bid earlier. When opps propose to go down why would I insist for our pair to be set instead?
  18. This business of a third seat opening really is a furphy. Just because it is a third seat opening does not mean it HAS to be light. You pass; this time your pd has a 15 count, but because you passed thinks you have rubbish. How are you going to convince him you have this much? What's the worst that could happen if I pass? Partner has 15 HCP, and makes 1♥x +2 for 360 when 3NT was cold for 400. So we lose an imp, so what? If instead partner had ♠xx ♥AQ10xx and a King in the minors any bid from me could turn a +160 into a -100 for a 6 imps loss.
  19. Lol, I am the only one who passed. If partner has opened in first or second position, I'd redouble, but here I am never raising the level when probably no side has a fit, and opps can easily have more points than us. Don't your partners never open light in third? Especially at favorable. I won't consider 1♠ in any position, but that's just my style.
  20. Partner is 1=3=2=7. We have to return a ♣ now, otherwise declarer who is 4=5=2=2 will be able to discard a club on the ♦9.
  21. Even a LoTT freak like me bids 3♥ here in order to protect his honors, as they are not worth much if ♠ are trumps.
  22. 5♥? I hope partner will bid her better minor at level 6 where we should belong.
  23. I, for one, raise to 2M after a double with 0-5 HCP and three cards in the major, so 2NT makes perfect sense to be natural. Double from advancer shows both minors.
  24. then responder "could" pass 3H or 4C? With 3NT one of the choices, I don't understand that. If you mean 3H, 3NT, or 4C are the only bids Opener can make, I still don't agree. 3D and 3S must have some meaning, and if simple suit preferences "could" be passed, Opener would have to jump prefer with some hands. Sure you can assign some meaning to ♦ and ♠, and they are valid rebids but not final destinations. That makes it even more unlikely that partner will move further if you now rebid 3♥. This is what I meant when I said 3♣ was not GF.
  25. I open 1♠ and I bid 3♥ over 3♣. I guess I misclicked when I passed, so now I pass again. At least I am sure we have a ♦ fit. My partner wouldn't rebid a 5 cards suit, and at level 3 it should be solid too, yet 5♦ would be quite a stretch even for me. :)
