  1. If responder have 4 spades and 5 hearts with invitational strength there is no bid to show that, so i have to improvise and choose the smalles lie (Use garbage stayman) - I play 1N - 2♣ - 2♦ - 2♥ as 5♥4♠ invitational. If you're 5-4 majors, transfer and pass
  2. I play 1♠-1NT-2♣ as 11-16 ♠ & ♥ or 17+ So 2♥ is preference on any 4+card suit or 13(45) That way 2NT is 5-5 minors & 3m is 6-cards You can play 3♥+ as showing 6-card heart suit and a positive
  3. 1♦ - 1M - 2NT: 6♦3M 16+ or 5+♦4M 16-18 3♣: 4M GF (then 3♦: 6♦3M NF & 3M: 4M 16-18) 3♦: 4M NF 3♥: 5M NF 3♠: 5M GF 1♦ - 1M - 3M: 19+ support
  4. I play: 2♣: 20-21 balanced or GF (25+ balanced/suit), this was partner's idea which I've gone on to adapt a bit, but the main reason we play it is to get out opposite 20-21 balanced 2M: 5-card suit to play opposite 20-21 2NT: 6+♣ 0-3 or 8+ 3♣ 6+♦ 0-3 or 8+ Over the transfers into a minor, completion shows 20-21 balanced, obviously any move after the completion would show 8+ 2♣ - 2♦ is any positive or a negative without a 5cM or 6cm 2♣ - 2♦ - 2♥ is 20-21 balanced or hearts 2♣ - 2♦ - 2♥- 2NT is 5-5 minors 0-3 and at most 1 heart 2♣ - 2♦ - 2♥- 3♣ is 5-5 minors 0-3 with 2-3 hearts 2♣ - 2♦ - 2♥ - 2♠ are all the other hands including the balanced negatives that pass the 20-21 2NT rebid Of course, considering the rarity of 2♣/2NT openers I've not had much chance to see where this gains/fails I'd like to play transfer negatives starting at 2♦ not 2NT but I'm not sure if partner would play them with the argument being 2♣ 2♦ 2♥ Pass, but I've not really asked him. You could then use 2♣ - 2♠ as 0-3 5-5 minors or 6-card minor (Ken Rexford) and the transfers into the minors as real positives or something else
  5. If it's the 5♠4♥ minimum hand opposite 4♥5♣ less than reverse hands you're worried about you could play a responder's Reverse Flannery bid, I play: 1♣ - 2♦ as 5+♠4+♥ less than a 10 count, you can then get: 1♣ - 1♥ (showing spades) - 2♣ - 2♥ as natural but 10+ and F1, and only 5♠5♥ if GF as you can also play: 1♣ - 1♥ (showing spades) - 2♣ - 3♥ as 5♠5♥, invitational, NF If you hate rebidding 2♣ on 4-5 in the minors and poor club suits you could do one of two things: Complete the transfer to show any hand with diamonds and clubs, then use 2♦ as your forcing raise with support OR Open 1♦ on hands with longer clubs below reversing values and fiddle with rebids to show this hand: 1♦ - 1M - 1NT to show the longer diamonds hand to remove the need for false preference and then: 1♦ - 1M - 2♣ as the 4-5 in the minors minimum hand Now the nice thing is you can have your relay after 1♣ - 1Red - 2♣ as 2♦ as most of the time partner will not have 4 diamonds (this can help you GF with clubs for example) It does feel like you've overloaded your higher level bids to deal with the minors
  6. 1st NV: 9-11 3rd NV: 9-14 Else 14-16 Is what I play I wouldn't play a mini in 2nd for the main reason that you're equally likley to be pre-empting partner as you are LHO, whereas in 1st you 2-1 more likely to be pre-empting oppos than partner. Obviously when you're in 3rd anything goes - hence 9-14 :D
  7. 1♣ - 1♦: 4+ hearts 1♥: 2-3 hearts, 11-13 balanced or 11-5 5+C 0-2 hearts 1♠: natural, 11-18, F1 1NT: 17-19 balanced 2-3 hearts 2♣: 15+ with at least 3 hearts 2NT: Acol 2 in clubs, 0-2 hearts 3♣: 6+C, 0-2 hearts Similar after 1♣ - 1♥ 1♣ - 1♠: less than GF without 4cM or Weak Jump Shift in Diamonds 1NT: 11-13 balanced 2♦: 17-19 balanced 2♥: invitational 2♠: puppet to 2NT 1♣ - 1NT: 8-11 6+Diamonds or Diamonds GF 2♣: 17-19 balanced or natural 2♦: 11-13 balanced or minimum 1♣ - 2♣: Clubs GF 1♣ - 2♦: 5+D4+S 0-10
