So, when I bid 2D GIB should realise I'm just competing. What's the point of bidding 2NT ? Why not pass or bid 3D ? He's got 4 of them and knows I'm gonna be short clubs and he has no C stoppers ?!?!?! Exactly the opposite of the previous hand. You want him to bid NT, he does'nt ! You dont want him to bid NT, he does ! -

Big problem with super acceptance with doubleton in transfering suit. Now responder cant stop in 3 with garbage after a super accept ! Please restore the old method. -
I have started playing bridge for an enough long time ago to know that what you say is all so very true. But why did the ACBL change all of this and created stratifications of all sorts if not to attract more players (money that is)? I guess my point is not so much the unfairness of no strats in ITs. It's much more the why should I bother with IT's when I can play in stratified robot games. At least I'm competing against people in my capability range, not the brightests of the brightests. Where's the fun in being screwed to the ground all the time ? At 67 years of age I'm well passed the idea that I'm going to get much better any time soon ! As the song goes... I just want to have fun. Regards
-
The most unfair thing in IT's is that there is no stratification. If you are a B or C player you have almost no chance. The A players are way too strong. A 1400MP silver life master against 2 or 3 10000+MP players with no stratification ? Come on!

I don't know if this topic has been discussed before but here goes... Today, playing an ACBL MPs Robot Individual game, I had this funny hand… ♠ T ♥ QJ84 ♦ KT84 ♣ AQ62 North (GIB) opened 1♦, I responded 1♥, GIB bid 1♠ and I bid 1NT !!! I have 12 HCP and I know that GIB can’t have more than me, so, at best, 3NT would be on 24 HCP. Although I know GIB will pass 2NT with his 12 HCP, I have known GIB to make weird bids in the past and did not want to take that chance. Further more, 2NT on 24 HCP might not be makable. They could run 6 tricks in the first 7 tricks. So, I decided to play the odds and get out with my plus at 1NT, but I did so with the information that GIB cant have more then 12 HCP which is an information that I would not have at a real bridge table. In fact, I made 3 on an endplay, for a 79.2% where half the field was at 3NT down 1 or 2. So the question is… Is it possible to get rid of that situation where South has absolutely the best hand by having either… 1) North POSSIBLY having up to 1 more HCP then South Or 2) One of the other 3 players POSSIBLY having 1 more HCP then South. I’m saying possibly sometime, not absolutely all the time. It would make South declarer still most of the time but South would have to tip-toe a bit more. Just a thought ! I imagine the ACBL will have a say !

5 ♠ (not expecting to make) and leave them the last guess ! If they bid 6, they had the last guess ! Leave it at that ! IMHO !

Version 1.48g - please post feedback and suggestions here
baraka replied to diana_eva's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Great idea. Love it. Sometimes you get a good/bad result and dont know why. This way you dont have to wait the end of the game to know. thx. On an other subject... when I pause the mouse pointer on a bid, the meaning of the bid appears but disappears soon after. Sometimes I dont have the time to evaluate everyting that I want (I'm not too fast), so, I have to reposition the mouse pointer so as to make it reappear and it is kind of disrupting. Could it be possible to keep the meanings of bids on screen until one removes the pointer ? THX, Regards. -
Sorry, but it is not normal to ignore the XX. If West passes, North has the duty to bid unless he has a penalty. On west's bid, north is releived of it's duty to bid and should pass to send the message that the hand does not belong to us. It looks to me as an essencial message. Those who ignore the XX have a bidding problem ! Period !
-
Wiht a doubleton 96. How sweet ! You might get away with it from time to time, but in the long run it's gonna cost you !
-
They never gave me the big fat book on GIB's phylosophy of bidding. So, I guess that a lot of us have to fly blind oftentimes, but this one I just dont get. GIB should have passed fast and furious after the XX. That would have shut me up ! Does anyone know if GIB has a random function running in the background telling him when to make a bad bid even though he knows it's a bad bid ? I'm loosing it and fast !!! What is it that GIB does not understand (or I) about 4♠ ? Isn't it supposed to be to play ? After 5♣ I went along with 5♥ telling myself he'll stop in 5♠ since he'll think we don't have control in ♦ ! Oh no... too simple ! You never know when and how he's going to throw a stick at you ! Geezzz !!!! At that rate, I'm not going to stick over here very much longer !

North is a past hand, therefore, 11HCP max (12 TP). In front of a 19 balanced max (could have 20TP), what kind of hand could north have to pass first hand, not bid preempt first hand, and have distribution values to come up to 33 TP. Impossible. Even so, if north has that miracle hand, in front of a 19 HCP, some of those 19HCPs will most likely be lost in duplication in front of shortness. As 1eyedjack rightly mentioned, GIB fails to reduce the value of it's own hand when holding honors in a known partner short suit. I have experienced myself GIB going full speed ahead with KQxx in front of my known singleton and there lies the problem. 4♣ should never had been bid in the first place.

Ok. Had to think a bit before answering that one. Let me start by stating that bridge is a bidder’s game. You can be the greatest card player in the world, it will do you no good if you are too often in a bad contract. On the other hand, you may well be an average card player but if you are consistently in the right contract, you will always perform. An extension to that statement is that if you can arrange for the opps to be in a bad contract, you will also perform. The secret to being in the right contract is ‘Picture Bids’. The secret to having the opps in a bad contract is disruptive bids. The more picture bids conventions and the more disruptive bids conventions you have, the better off you will be. As for GIB, the reason it is off so often is not because it has too many conventions. It is because it has too few. With too few, it has too many branches on it’s decision tree. As for the players, more conventions would be a better learning experience. Isn’t that what bridge is all about… a learning experience ? The bids are explained anyway ! So, to that effect, when I play at the club, my partner and I play… BETSY on opp’s 1NT (15-17) as described in my `Cappelletti post. This convention is both descriptive and disruptive. RJO (as described in my RJO post) along with Mod Michaels cues (6-7 LTC) and «same level corrections» which does not promise extra after a TO double is corrected at the same level as the response. It works the same way as RJO. The way I play Mod Michaels is 2NT = 2 lowest, Cuebid of minor = highest & lowest, Jump Cue of minor = 2 highest. If the opening suit is a major… Cuebid = other major & a minor and a jump cue of the major = I have 9 tricks if you have a stopper in the opps major (bid 3NT). How many times have you been stopped from bidding because you had that major and not the other one. How nice ! It is ridiculous to bid 1NT(15-17) in sandwich position if not a past hand. Partner will have 2-3 TP and it will be a disaster. Play 5-5 or better (6-7 LTC) even if not passed and play Astro Cues also in sandwich position. It promises a 4-6 or 4-7 in the other 2 unbid suits. The lower cue = long in lower unbid suit. The higher cue = long in the higher unbid suit. Perfect picture bids ! Vasilevsky… After LHO opens a major, P, 1NT (forcing) by RHO… if you pass and they end up in 2S you will have to enter at the 3 level which wont be very comfortable. Remember that the 1NT bidder might have a very weak hand and that partner was unable to bid. So… after the 1NT(forcing)… X transfer to C 2C transfer to D 2D transfer to Other Major Cue bid : Strong takeout 2 Of Other Major (4 cards, Weak Takeout, 4441 type) 2NT : 2 Minors 5-5 3Min : Min/6 & Other Maj/4 Descriptive and very disruptive ! And I have others if you want ! Regards

Thx. Got to remove [media] also at the end.

I see this at the beginning... handviewer.html?lin=pn|baraka Is it sn or pn ?

One of the worst thing I hate about GIB is that it sometimes make a bad bid and then takes capitancy and drives the ship right on the rocks ! Here is a perfect example... Miserable !!! By the way... How do I make the hand diagram bigger ?

Thx guys. Very good points. Really appreciate !

After LHO opens 1♣ and Partner (GIB) overcall 1♠ and RHO passes, a 2♣ cuebid is described as good fit, limit or better. It's the good fit part that bugs me. The way I play it is either I have a limit with a fit or I have an opener with or wirhout a fit (partner please describe). It'a way more flexible. Can anyone tell me exactly what GIB plays ? Is it an unconditional fit or my way ?

You're right... North could have 1 to 3 ♣s, but that does not explain the 4♦ bid ! Still a wierd bid !

Hi, I have a problem with this hand... http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?lin=pn|baraka,~~M29921,~~M29919,~~M29920|st%7C%7Cmd%7C1SAH3D38JAC5679JQK%2CS349TH49KAD6C48TA%2CS8JKH256QD29TKC23%2C%7Crh%7C%7Cah%7CBoard%2011%7Csv%7Co%7Cmb%7C1C%7Can%7CMinor%20suit%20opening%20--%203%2B%20%21C%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%20%7Cmb%7C1H%7Can%7COne-level%20overcall%20--%205%2B%20%21H%3B%208-17%20HCP%3B%209-19%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7C1N%7Can%7C3-%20%21S%3B%208-11%20HCP%3B%20likely%20stop%20in%20%21H%20%7Cmb%7C3C%7Can%7CMixed%20raise%20--%204%2B%20%21H%3B%207-9%20total%20points%3B%20forcing%20to%203H%20%7Cmb%7C4C%7Can%7C21-%20HCP%3B%20twice%20rebiddable%20%21C%3B%2017-22%20tota%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C4D%7Can%7C4%2B%20%21D%3B%203-%20%21S%3B%208-11%20HCP%3B%20likely%20stop%20in%20%21H%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C5D%7Can%7C4%2B%20%21D%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%20twice%20rebiddable%20%21C%3B%2017-%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CCJ%7C From North's and opps bidding I know that north has max 3♠s, max 4♥s, therefore at least 6 cards in the minors. From his 4♦ bid he has at least 4♦s and at most 2♣s. So, the question is... What is the meaning of the 4♦ bid ? A) Want to play in ♦s, drop dead ? B) Want to play in ♣s, got help in ♦s if you want to play 6 ? C) Want to bug you ?

Semantics, semantics, semantics !!! I DON'T CARE WHAT IT'S CALLED. It's the idea that counts. Call it what you want !!!!
