Hello world, I dont get the clue how to define the hands. If I change the general approuche: dealer and points for N/S that doesnt work neither when I define more exact deals. I cant change the point for each of the players, it is changed for all players. Is there a "save" button I overlook? Not much help needed, if I could define the points that would be enough. Dear Fred, ok, FD is uploaded. When I go to my profile and choose CC I can see on the left side (Flash) my personal CCs. If I "edit" a FD-File there is NO option to delete. Only if I have a normal CC I can choose this option from the bottom. Clicking on a FD-File opens a window in grey/blue. I am not concerened about deleting something from my harddrive; I am used to use a computer. My Question: Can I delete FDs using Flash? Thx, Uli (extrasolid)

Hi, I joined a BBOland-Tourney and played 4♠ from South. 8 tricks in the bag and leading the ♥A time was over. North ♠T ♥A8 ♦T West East ♠A ♥T ♥J9 ♦J9 ♣K ♣T South ♠Q ♣J98 Discarding club, ruffing ♦ and it´s made at least. Adjustment 4♠-1! TDs make mistakes, but even after an explanation he says "skore is ok". I wanted to know now, who BBOland is, because I pay money to play their tourneys and expect to get an experianced player as TD. There is no hint on their homepage (BBOland.com) who they are and no link to nothing but Bridgebase Onlne. Even the "Related links" button doesnt link anything. Does anybody know how I can get messages to them? Is there any quality check by BBO? Or do we have to care for ourselfs? If so, be careful! extrasolid

Same problem for me, only giving the BBOTV link to a friend :)! The problem is, this doesnt happen every time; sometimes only the names get blue from the third letter and the first two letters of the new message (of all messages) are blue; rest is normal. Uli

Hello, I like BBOTV very much and use it always watching viegraph and sometimes to play bridge, too. Now a friend of mine remarked, there is a lot of chaos on his screen when I use german umlaute: ä ö ü ß. On my screen anything works well. If we chat from the old client to old client there is no problem. I dont know if it occurs from TV to TV. Uli

Hello, I would like to answer Mink. No, it is not the same to make someone green or someone brown. Deep in my heart I think, the glass is half-full and human beeing is good. So lets choose a supporting, positive approuch. I would like to see few people green and a lot of blue PLUS the system currently used. If you need, lets say 1000 hands to get a green nick, you will rarely see one of them and think: "oh, there´s a nice player". It´s ment as award. And - to some other answers - I dont think it exists a behaviour we should accept "online" that we do not accept "at the table". Uli

My goal is, to get a positive answer on tablehopping, not discussing, if the current system works or which drawbacks there are. I teach some things - not Bridge, of course - and often work with people in teams. Experience shows, that it is much easier to motivate others to do what you want, if you show the advantages as e. g. a green nick! As I said before, I dont want to destroy the spirit of BBO and my suggestion should not lead to blackmailing others. So the hurdle to overcome to get a green nick should be high enough. I can draw the conclusion from the posts so far, that the readers, and players, want something else, because they discuss the current system. Thats ok, that´s not the theme of my thread. Uli

Hi all, during the last weeks I have got the concrete and strong feeling, that more and more people leave during bidding and play. Not only if I play with my standardP (4cM, strong club with a lot of canapé). We are used to opps, that are not familiar with such a system and leave when they want to. Not nice, but we can stand it. But yesterday I played with two different P, one time an usual 2/1 approach, one time "better minor". 5 opponents came, had a bad result or only problems with his/her P, because he opened a solid 5c card suit as weak2 in third hand and during bidding of the second board after some passing they went away. I accused 3 of them to abuse@bridgebase and learned, that BBO takes care of the problem. The leaving people get logged, get in the future a warning and in the distant future may be something happens, so theay have to use another nick. Not too sure, that this approach works. I propose to choose a positive register to show the good guys without blackmarking the bad ones! In the kindergarden and the first classes we got bees (chop) on our hands for good work! Why not logging the good guys too and show the nick the greener the more deals are played to the end. So you can see after some time that guys, that never leave - as me! -, that, who leave really on rare occasions and the rest, who is shown in equal color, so nobody can be taunted. Somebody of the BBOteam surely plays chess on playchess.com (chessbase, Fritz, Junior). There you can evaluate your opp as kind or nasty and his behaviour as well or bad. I dont want as much information. You can think about a lot of criteria as alerting, explaining or something like that. It seems sufficient to make visible, who stays until the end of the board. May be better, who stays for at least 3 deals or something like this. Tablehopping is annoyng. Uli (extrasolid)

Hi folks, defining the defensive bidding seems to be difficult. I made the first steps and see 1♣ from the opps. Now I can define all our bids as if we opened. So far, so well. But now we have different systems against 1♣ depending on the meaning of 1♣. So I just included our defence against qualifier: 1. "natural or polish!C" X... = t/o 1♦....=4+♥s .... 2. "strong club" X... =4cM+5cm 1♦ = onesuiter in a major ... "qualifier" is a form you can fill out to define the hands where the conventions occur (I think). Its only a textbox so I am not sure about this. The "help"-button in the menubar is still grey. Can anyone help if I am wrong? If I check "defensive bidding" in the file I now see this as explanation after clicking on 1♣ (strong, written in blue letters) [DBL]strong(written in blue) 4cM5cm [1♦]strong(written in blue) onesuiter in a major .... If I choose 1♣ ("natural" oder polish♣, writtel in blue letters, too) the definitions appear accordingly. Supposed nothing went wrong during the last steps: How can I choose during bidding, what alert should be shown to the opps? I opened a teaching table to see if it works properly but there was no "alert" to see for any bis of 1♣. It happens nothing when I go with my mouse over the bidding table. All boxes "show...." do have their checkmark! What is the reason? Uli

Hí, I think, you tried the most things before asking and did not succeed. The answers (as far as I know): Yes, you can use FD in bidding practise but you can not change seats and practise bidding on your own. No, Gib is not free No, you cant get "normal" bidding of opponents without GIB Uli

I like the idea of a red X and a blue XX in the auction. You have that colors at the table too, so there is no undeserved plus of information. For less experienced players and lazy ones as me it would be nice. Uli

Hi folks, Vista works well for me. My new Monitor has a resolution of 1680:1050 (something like this). I know BBO doesnt get bigger here as it gets if I press <ctrl><w>. But there is a possibility to tell Vista, to start BBO in 640x400 (long times ago...)! This setting I can choose rightclicking and then there in some menu. BBO now tell me it needs at least 800x600 (lol). So it is too small to play with and too big to rearange my resolution comfortably. Is there a way to tell my computer to change the resoultion to 1280x960 (that works well) always I start the program? Uli

Is it possible to add the WBF-Code of the players with a star somewhere automaticallly? Or a link to their page in the WBF database? Links have a big disadvantage, they may change! I like to search the database for pictures and successes of the players and it´s always a lot of clicks to find them. The database itself finds a perons and then asks you to click again no matter how many maches were found. The link is only for my convienience, I know.

Hi again, at first I still agree that there should be not even one moving ad in the playing window, nor something that makes sound. There should be a possibility to play ad-free. And to achieve this I still think that you could take some BBO$. Nothing in the world is free, even death costs your life. So I am ready to pay some fee. If Fred - nice enough - still thinks, Bridge should be broadcasted for free, please be consequent and stop ads at the playing table. Secondly my spyware warner starts warning when clicking on an ad in the top of the page. /fastclick. Not too nice!! Uli

PLEASE, if you need money, take it from the players. That AD-window is terrible and it destroys concentration and the game. I build up a little tower with books and a CD, so I dont have to see it now. The first "improvement" that is really nonsense. Uli

In our partnership (modified polish club) I suggested to play (like Bocchi-Duboin-Club 2001) transferbids on the 1♣ opening. 1♣-1♦ =4+♥s, 7+HCP 1♣-1♥=4+♠s, 7+HCP 1♣-1♠ = 0-6 without 4cM, 0-11 otherwise, 12-16 bal. (like 1♦ before) This occupies the first-level responses. On the other side, 1♠ has to be forcing, so with 11-14 you have to bid 1NT and play a weak one. P has given a lot of information too, so it can get dangerous, mainly vulnerable. Any experiences playing something like that? b. As alternative I suggested to remove 12-16 bal. from the possibilities as responder. Then 1♠ is NF - you only can miss close games with fitting hands in the minors - and you can pass with e. g. 11-14 bal. and 4♠s. Any experiences playing something like that? If you agree to a) I suggested further to play raises as before, 1♥/♠ as transferbid shows 11-14 bal. with 3cardsupport (again stolen from Bocchi-Duboin :P ). The other opportunity is to play the transfer with 4 card support and raise only if you are stronger than 11-14; of course after new evaluating your hand after finding the fit. Any hints for me? Uli

A very good idea. Getting two free seats on a line as partnership would be great. I often "follow" my P and then the seat is taken or the owner of the table does not like me or not two of the same country or he dclines for any reason. Then my P has to leave and we have to look araound again. There is s second problem. I reduced the shown table as much as possible but often there are a lot of tables available. Then my P choses one table and he dissapears to the bottom becuase now 3 players are there and not 2 anymore. If I can find the table, the seat is taken. So, if possible please let us take seat together! As second advantage a partnership can wait for another partnership. Then the danger that anybody leaves because he feels insulted by "bad" play or bidding ist much less than when you get "privates" :rolleyes: Uli

Hello, who has to pay is an interesting question. BBO is the best possibility to play bridge in the internet in the moment I think. It is nice that it is free. May be for some good reasons (thanks to Fred) it should be. But, there is no need that viewgraph ist free. If the "big events" would cost a dollar per day e. g., you could get some money for the organization. Uli
