I believe there have been 2 or 3 cases of illegal voting by illegal immigrants in the courts the last couple of years. So, urban myth? I think not. Significant? We don't know. There have been precints where there have been more votes counted than voters registered, a couple in Chicago I have read about.
-
But isn't there a significant difference? Russians, and probably 100s of other groups, try to influence voters. Busloads of people coming over the borders, some of them actually vote illegally, potentially changing the outcome of an election.
-
So, what specific crime is Trump alleged to have committed? Is there any evidence publicly available to support that allegation?
-
Wrong. It is still legal theft. The fact that the "child-kings" approve of it does not change the nature of the acts.
-
Yep, you are acting as expected. From now on I will just refer to you as "Nazi hrothgar".
-
Ah, good ol' Nazi type behavior. Make it a personal attack.

I would think the winners and losers care!

Thank you for conceding that government actions always advantage/disadvantage individuals/groups. You may call it the butterfly effect if you wish. But those are some big butterflies!

Thank you for a thoughtful replay. You may be surprised to find that I am not that far from your position. As a "limited government libertarian" I concede that some taxation may be needed to fund essential government services. Our difference is probably in the definition of "essential government services". In my view there is a need for some national defense (including border control), a court system to adjudicate disputes and laws, and a police force to enforce the laws and decisions of the courts. How to pay for these essential services is open to debate, but some minimal taxation is probably necessary. Beyond that I believe that government should butt out. Laws enforceable by the courts/police should be limited to the aforementioned areas. The rest to be handled through voluntary contracts between citizens, also enforceable by the courts.

Most, if not all, government research is carried out via contracts. Those receiving the contracts are advantaged versus those that don't. The research actually conducted by the government yields policy decisions. Those policy decisions advantage certain groups over other groups. Finally, those government employees are paid to conduct the research. They are advantaged over others who are not paid. Would you like to provide mare concrete examples or do you prefer invective?

You are right, I believe that all taxation is legalized theft. It is extracting money from non-consenting individuals through the use or threat of us of force. Isn't that theft? The fact that it is authorized by law simply makes it legal. Hence, legalized theft. I would be interested in hearing an example of a government action that doesn't advantage some individual or group and disadvantage another individual or group. Can you supply one? And once again we can depend on you to make a personal attack. I appreciate your reliability.

Isn't all government action "picking winners and losers"?

And this guy is in tears over getting his job back: https://youtu.be/qPrkRpRgz54

I remember the 2016 election. According to the polls, Trump did not stand a chance of getting the Republican nomination. Then he didn't stand a chance of getting elected. Then he didn't stand a chance of turning the economy around. Then he didn't stand a chance of improving relationships with North Korea. Then he didn't stand a chance of ... Now he doesn't stand a chance of keeping the House and Senate in Republican control. we will see in November, won't we?
-
Actually the germane question is: Is Trump producing the results that he was elected for? If yes, he should remain in office, if no then he should not remain if office.
-
That is my job, to bring your fantasies into display for all to see.

Would you be willing to give Trump the authority and power to straighten out and modernize the electoral system?

Winstonm, You have my condolences. The world must appear very depressing for you at the moment. Just a few years ago Obama told us to get used to 2% GDP growth, and that those manufacturing jobs, well they were never coming back. And now, just 18 months into President Trump's first term, GDP growth for this last quarter is predicted to be 4.5+%, perhaps even 5%. There are so many manufacturing jobs that there are not enough qualified people to fill them. Wages are starting to rise for the first time in a decade. Millions of workers have received bonuses. Middle class taxpayers has received significant reductions in income taxes. Unemployment is at historic lows. And the world is getting safer. Progress seems to be occurring with North Korean denuclearization. Trump is reducing tensions with Russia. NATO members are beginning to step up to their committments for defense spending. Sanctions against Iran are beginning to have an effect. And the trade imbalances with the rest of the world is being addressed. China is being confronted. NAFTA is being renegotiated or replaced. Trump is pushing for everybody to drop or reduce their tariffs, restrictive regulations, and barriers to free trade. Or at least to institute "reciprocal" trade. Meanwhile Trump's approval ratings are inching up. Thousands of Democrats are abandoning the Democrat Party via the #WalkAway movement. Approval ratings among African Americans is running at 20+%, Hispanics at 40+%. The Democratic Party seems like it is lurching to the extreme Left. All of this happening during the term of an uncouth, unsuave, blowhard president. It must be very depressing. You have my sympathy.

Well, yes, but we are talking about individuals who have never bothered to acquire ID, who are pre-occupied with their lives, harrassed by circumstances, probably do not participate much in community/political actions, who now are suddenly going to make the effort to vote. Would you share what you are smoking?
-
Do you think such a person is even interested in taking the time to vote?
-
Isn't there a difference? Trump initiated the imposition of at some of those sanctions. Trump has not initiated the imposition of the environmental laws. Therefore one can assign some responsibility of the sanctions to Trump, but none of the environmental laws.
-
In the US one normally only needs a birth certificate and with that can usually obtain a valid ID from the Drivers License agencies of the state. Not difficult.
-
Is not the statement true? Trump is President, and strong sanctions are being applied to Russia. Please correct me, with some evidence, if I am incorrect.
-
But you could obtain one if needed, correct?
-
Are you saying that the Russians did not materially affect voting? But like anybody else in the world was just influencing the voting public by publishing stuff? Now if the stuff being published is factual, then what is the problem? If the stuff being published is not factual then how do we deter that? In fact, that is a problem for all segments of the political environment. How do we deter non-factual publication that is put forward as factual by the Russians, the Israelis, the Europeans, the Republicans, the Democrats? Your objection to Voter ID is BS. Valid ID is required to open a bank account, receive Federal benefits, start a business, etc. And if you live in an inner city, you better have ID when you encounter the police. So I would think that the actual number of citizens in the US that do not already have a valid ID is extremely small. And if voting is important to those they will quickly acquire an ID. Do you think people are stupid?
