Juniors BBO holds a tourney every Tuesday (2PM EDT). Many mentors will play with juniors - to be assigned at Vdoubleu's table 40 minutes prior to start time. Teaching Table on Wednesday's 11AM EDT (also at vdoubleu's table) - with special guest experts each week. "JuniorsBBO" will be on 30-40 minutes before to take reservations to play. A site has been created for your use at: http://www.freewebs.com/juniorsbbo/index.htm Please use this forum for ANY communications and/or suggestions about juniors.

This is a wonderful place to learn - we have very dedicated experts ready to help the juniors. Me included. Don't let this opportunity slip away.

South hand makes game if partner has 3 small Spades ..and nothing! South was more than timid.
-
Need a negative vote? I would NOT overcall! 3 cards in S and empty suit..not me.
-
When choosing a style of 1 level overcalls - keep in mind the negative inference (not overcalling). If you overcall with KQJx and out (my style) - when you fail to bid ..it means something too! These overcalls are used for competing and lead direction. If partner "knows" that you had enough value to bid...but didn't..that has meaning! So when choosing a lead - is not looking for a hidden miracle.

Firing squads were invented for partners that Pass this bid.

a few "nice" pills would be needed :)

transfer super accept
reisig replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
When super accept w 4 trumps ..I like to show my doubleton - helps partner judge game/slam bidding better. So 1N 2♦ -- 2♠ and 3♣ = doubleton here -- resp then rexfer with doubleton in the xfer suit - jump to 3M. -
For me - Inv Minor is NOT GF (yet) ..might be 10-11 with 5 card support. So - I use the 1st avail bid to show a weak NT hand usually with 3 cards in the minor (maybe 4 bad). Therefore 2N is for good hands.

Why do experts do better?
reisig replied to inquiry's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I always thought it was just luck! -
Been there ....done that :o
-
In MY system? Pass XX = 9-11 and Pass then X or bid = GF ... simple bids = less than 9
-
forcing or not ...bid 1NT...then win the postem! What else matters?

Making partner play well

Amazing - how playing with screens help!! Partner can't see your face. You can say almost anything (nice) while reaching for a weapon :P ..just kidding -
Cue Bidding Second Round Controls
reisig replied to pbleighton's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I use Italian cue bids (of course!) - hard to imagine playing without them. There are some situations that might get a bit confusing, however. 1H 3H (lets say limit) 4C 4D -- what does 4D show? NOT what you think! Since 4C denied a S cue ...4D is a S cue (maybe D too..but not clear yet) See what I mean? Somehow they work. -
after the 2♣ bid and 2♦ forced response - you bid another 4 card Major or rebid your Major showing 5 ..never 6. With 5-5 invitational hands - jump into 2nd suit...see 2NT relay to 3♣ for 5-5 GF hands.
-
I like 2♣=relay to 2♦..weak or any invite. 2♦ = GF 2N = relay to 3♣..intending to Pass or show any 5-5 GF hand. Resp bids 2nd suit - or rebid 1st suit to show ♣s. That allows resp to show 5-5 invit hands with immed jump into 2nd suit.
-
Responder has made a game invit bid (2♥) - after using 2♣...so 2♠ is accepting (showing max) and honors in ♠s for a possible 3N but may be lacking ♦ stopper maybe AKx Qx xxx AJxxx
-
2♣ Using 2♣ 2♦ 3♥ showing 4+♥ with longer ♦s is what I'd suggest.
-
I rarely comment ...since I usually agree with MikeH. But - Pass seems "out of this world". And 4♥ is like saying "I don't need a partner". Therefore - 3♥ seems more middle of the road and keeps partner in the game.
-
I don't agree "worst ruling of the year"....I've seen worse...but clearly is in the running for that "award" B)
-
I didn't comment - but ..if I had the right minimum for slam ..I'd ask "why do you take me out of the bidding with 4♥?" Clearly - a cue bid of 3♠ doesn't commit us beyond 4♥ and allows opener (having shown a min hand) to make a useful cue bid or simply sign off again.
-
I voted to bid ..and it was clear to me that partner could never raise 5♥ even when right. So - being a brave bidder - I bid 6♥ and -as always - ready with the "I'm sorry" card in the bidding box.
-
I remember what I bid on this one ..take all doubt away (whether 4!c is forcing or not)..and bid 4NT...hard to avoid 6+!cs here.
