hi, the beginner want to join the tornament because they want to learn more.... why not give them a valuable chance to bid against psych(which they may face it later)? If the beginner is not ready....just stay in the main room and don't play tornament(except BIL's) P.S i don't think it is odds on for bidding a psych against a beginner

unmitigated disaster
myfish replied to sceptic's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I would certainly bid 4♠ at the table too :) the X is horrible, always X with this will led to a 4-2♠ fit -

i think the X make little sense..... i would like to bid 1♦ instead 4♠ is fine for me,especially at IMP vul........ -
well ,one time i have such a 1 loser hand [hv=s=sakqxxhakqxxdakcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] just after a while,i play in 6♥(after giving p's choice in ♥and♠) the dummy: [hv=s=sakqxxhakqxxdakcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] after p's showing his hand....i start to think why p didn't choose ♠........ the lead is ♣Q,i went down despite ♥&♠ are 3-2 because i am so nevous about the bidding.......i did not remeber ♥ is trump and DISCARD a ♠in second ♣ this might be a stupid story instead of a funny one

Starting from scratch
myfish replied to sceptic's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
i believe that bidding is important for new player......but i think the scoring method in bridge is most important. I learn bridge in my school and some schoolmates introduce bridge to me. We try to play but unfortunately...we thought that all contract that makes is a game.......so the bidding would always be like that 1♣(13HCP+ which is from the books  ),-,-1♦,-,-1♥,-,-1♠,-,-2♣,-,-................something like that....... Not that we don't see the book............but we don't understand what the book said as the books using duplicate bridge,so every hand make is a game(while we are playing rubber.....) wait until i go to BBO and play.........i understand what happened B) -
hi all, i am interested to know if the hand is a little stronger(e.g ♦K becomes A and the small ♣holding is more solid e.g AJ984) will it change your bid?

Beginners guide to suit combinations
myfish replied to inquiry's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
hi :P 7. win A and then low to Q(34%) 8. low to 9(cover if needed),win A,low to Q 9. win A and then low to Q(~78%?) 10. low to 9,win A and then low to Q 11. i don't have 5 tricks unless it is the trump B) 12. win A and then low T,low to Q(properly wrong) A. low to T,win A B. win A and hope K drops,finnesse with 9(6 tricks) win A and then low to Q(5 tricks) C. can't win 5 tricks in any combination,must take 4 tricks if the suit breaks 4-3 in 5-2 breaks only a doubleton K helps,so low and then A/A and then low D. win A and then X -

hi,playing sayc [hv=d=s&s=sahkxxdkxxxcaj963]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] what will you open and respond? for open 1♣,what would you bid after p's respond? a) 1♥ b 1♠ c) 1NT for open 1NT(15-17),what would you bid after your pd's 3NT and an X by opps? for open 1♦,what would you do after 1♥ from p? thx all for the comment

hi,assume east open the bidding :D 1. east is more likely to have ♥K,as NS have 27 HCP,so EW have 13 east without the ♥K at max only have 10HCP which is not enough to open the bidding 2. from the bidding (1D),east has at min 4 card D 3. 9 tricks 4. squeezes(hope i spell it correct B) ) 5. just draw all the trump, discard a H in dummy,E is in trouble,if he keep 2H &2D cash DA in hand, and then dummy all high if E keep 3D&1H,play ♥A drop the ♥K and all high again :D P.S i guess E have 1-4-4-4/1-3-5-4 however i don't have E exact count.......

sorry to say that it is WEST who start the bidding ............ B) and 2D alerted as weak 2♦ by W,2♥ no alert Many strong pairs who play Multi will pass partner's "pass or correct" 2♥ advance when they hold a weak 2 in Spades. i believe it is true, however, however is it the case for vul at IMP? P.S how to use the quote here? :) N E S W 2D - 2H - - 2S X - - =

One of the rules of a HUM: c ) By partnership agreement an opening bid at the one level may be made with values a king or more below avarage strength hope i understand it... the average strength in bridge is 10HCP and a king below average strength is 10-3=7HCP which is what the hand has :D furthermore, the rules of HUM didn't say we have to use HCP to calculate the hand One of the rules of a HUM: :P By parntership agreement an opening bid at the one level may be weaker than pass you may pass with 10HCP but you bid with 7 HCP!! if we count on HCP...the opening is illegal than....

A simple play problem
myfish replied to AceOfHeart's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
i do affect by seeing the whole hand feel sorry about it  maybe next time use a card to hind the opps hand  but in this question... i would ask the defender 2 things... 1. do they lead from 4th best or anything else? 2. what is their signal in defence? and the small card in H is important too though smoke signal in H is possible but not many player like it and try it............. if H is likely to be 4-4....i will try D... -
