  1. I guess that's me told off then.....
  2. Just figured out the Survivor option though that is not for individual events. I understand your points but most players would rather play in an event than at the ordinary tables IMHO. Most players would recognise the limitations of an absent 'TD' and recognise that it would be just for fun. Incidentally the usual time that I would set up an event and 'disappear' is 24:00/0:00 UK time = about 19:00 USA etc. I find the lack of events at this time quite surprising. :s Stu
  3. Sometimes I simply host a tournament because there is nothing for me to play in. I have also created a few events and gone off to bed because 1). it's past my bedtime and 2). there are no other events in the next 1/2 hour or whatever. It appears however that in my/the TDs absence players have been unable to substitute sitouts etc when there have been subs available. I am guessing that the absence of the TD is disabling this in some fashion. Players seem to be able to do substitutions themselves when I am there anyway so why not if I am in my bed? :) I suppose it would be nice for all the competitive players out there if an Auto Tournament feature could be implemented. An Individual event that has as many tables as appropriate with the latest remainder of entrants placed on the subs list. Substitutions would be automatic if connections were lost for a period of time - 20 seconds? Ideally there would some way of replacing unresponsive players as well. All entrants would accept these conditions of course. Stu
  4. I had intended to make a program that exported files in pbn, lin and 'TD' lin formats. Could you send me a copy of your program. No point in reinventing the wheel! Stuart (argonhoobler@hotmail.com)
  5. The problems over claiming are simply down to carelessness IMHO. :) The system is simple enough. Stu
  6. Next steps [ that may take a long time :( ] .... 1. Dealing and saving hands 2. Allow the user to set up hands 3. 'handle' pbn and lin file conversions - both ways 4. ...all heading towards (some kind of) a pbn database program 5. did I say that it might take a long time? 6. Look at the pretty interface B) Suggestions? Stu
  7. I have hosted a few tournaments now and I have a question regarding substitutions - well the software really. If a player is not responding how am I supposed to replace him/her? I know how to swap an individual player but I can't figure out how to send an invitation. As far as I can see I simply 'apply' the substitution and my victim  is swept into the fray. I am not aware of a simply way to send an invite. Any ideas? ('manual 'chat seems rather laborious...?) Stu
  8. As far as I understand it the lin files made by BridgeVu will not work without some kind of editing. My program simply takes the hands, vulnurability and dealer fields and pieces the together in a 'lin' format. It also puts a board number in. It requires (as it stands) the '*' which appears at the end of the play of the hand to 'trigger' each hands conversion. I have seen pbn files which have been edited and the play removed. These would not work with my program. (I'm not sure what they would be used for either). Stuart
  9. Hey there, Just to let you know I written a little pbn to lin file conversion program. It's very primitive but it seems to work. It available at... http://hoobloid.tripod.com Let me know if you find anything wrong etc or if you have any suggestions. I'm thinking about some kind of hand generating program next. Stuart
  10. Hello, I am interested in helping to run tournaments. I have no previous experience however but have played bridge for 'a long time'. I am a hard worker and willing to learn. Stu AKA Hoobloid
  11. OK I'll bite.... I'm looking for a regular online/BBO bridge partner. I live in Scotland and would like a partner who can play most evenings and weekends European time. (NOT every evening AND weekend :) ) My data.... Name : Hoobloid Level : Advanced. Honest - on a scale of 1 to 5 then 3 is a minimum :) System : I don't care, I'll play anything although I do prefer simple natural styles Aims : To improve and have fun I can't think of anything else to say except I really do not want any time wasters to reply. ;) Learning is a never ending process but *please* be competent before responding. That way at least one of us will be. Stu
