Thanks, but I didn't think it was necessary to have pairs moving weirdly half-way across the movement, I thought you could run it like a normal Mitchell, but EW pairs pivot at two tables?
-
Hi there, Clearly I don't know how to lay this double hesitation movement out - pairs would end up replaying boards. If anyone knows how to fix it - email me and I'll give you the doc to modify. Thanks - johnno.newman@gmail.com http://s29.postimg.org/yy9jd6ayv/dblhes.png Cheers

This hand decided a PABF title (Asian-Pacific)
zenbiddist replied to zenbiddist's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
Fluffy - he reasoned that the club hook fails because the guy leading a singleton doesn't have an ace. That also mean you can strip squeeze RHO without the count, but communications get awkward when you try to remove his idle cards - how do you end up in dummy to draw trumps after dealing with spades? It would be nice to have the HT. So to figure out which layout to play for, he was wondering - what was the guy's lead-tank about? What was his second choice of leads? Just hoping there's a strong enough inference to nail it. I'm obviously biased, having seen the layout -

This is essentially the line my friend took - to strip RHO down to stiff-CA, and force him to lead from D98x in the ending. But he thinks that he missed a clue to improve his chances -
OK I'll edit that in... thanks

That's as much of the bidding as declarer can remember, it's not a recent hand. I like the assumption that the ♣A is offside because LHO led a singleton (if you had played low, RHO would have put in the ♦8). Any other inferences? -

I fixed the ♦2 recurring. Have a go taking the play from where it's given to, it's a good problem. -
You're West. Your LHO looks like a man with a good hand, so you jump to 3♣. [hv=d=e&v=b&b=10&a=p1d(3%2B)3c(%22weak%22)d4cpp5dppp]133|100[/hv] He makes a 5 or 6 pause, then settles for 5♦. What's your lead and why? [hv=pc=n&w=skj5hj2d93caqt643]133|100[/hv] NS are playing standard american, 15-17 NT, etc. Scoring is IMPs

This was a critical board in the last match: [hv=pc=n&s=s43hkq43dkq743c43&n=sakt2haj82dat5ck2]133|200[/hv] South opened a limited canape 1♥ and revealed a minimum with longer diamonds. NS bid on to 6♥, and West led the ♦2 (4ths) after an uncharacteristically long tank. You put in the ♦T, which is covered. Over to you. -
A friend of mine just noted the absence of a lead-directing double of 5♣.
-
So you're in 6♠ South on the ♦K lead: [hv=pc=n&s=saqj874hjda8cq654&n=sk652haq2dt42cajt&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1sp2n(GF%20raise)p3h(shortage)p3sp4dp4hp4np5cp5sp6sppp]266|200[/hv] Tiny details: IMPs. No hesitations or questions from the opps during or after the auction. Fairly quick lead... Is there anything to go on here? I find when I ask experts I usually find there is - so here you are.. Thanks!

Hi there, A friend has heard of (software/script?) that can convert a screenshot of a hand into a deep finesse file. I'm interested in whether anyone knows what he was talking about and where I can get it. I'm interested in capturing hands from various sources (scanned newspaper article, bridge club results page, etc) Thanks, John

Two lead problems
zenbiddist replied to zenbiddist's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I just wanted to hear peoples' reasoning before I showed the hands. Here they are: Hand 1 (check out North's takeout double of 3♠!!): http://s13.postimg.org/jmxqwe7k7/Screen_Shot_2015_06_30_at_12_26_47_AM.png hosting images I have a lot of sympathy for my partner, who led a spade (a non-club). Hand 2: http://s30.postimg.org/5n6wnmmtd/Screen_Shot_2015_06_30_at_12_26_30_AM.png free image uploading Partner led the diamond singleton on hand two, which seems like the best shot. Thankfully the opps' aggro bidding eventually backfired, and we took a rewound contract many off on the last board of the match for a small win :) -
Two lead problems

In the second hand, are you still leading a diamond if LHO bids 5♦?: [hv=pc=n&w=s853hj984d4ck8532&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=1sp4s(No%20fancy%20raises)d(Takeout)p4n(Two%20places)d(%22Penalty%22)5cpp5dp5sppp]133|200[/hv] -
Jumping into the 4th suit
zenbiddist replied to zenbiddist's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
2♣ would have been 4th suit GFing. Thanks everyone, the variance of opinion is telling enough that it was too risky as an undiscussed bid! -
Your first board against new opponents. Your lead to 6♦ (yes, Australian preempts are loose): [hv=pc=n&w=skjt854h876d76cq6&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=3s(Preempt%2C%206%2B!S)d4s6d(Tank%20then%206!D)ppp]133|200[/hv] And onto the next one. By this point in the match you know that your opponents bidding is beyond optimistic, but so far it's worked. You're 6 boards in to a 10-board IMPs match: [hv=pc=n&w=s853hj984d4ck8532&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=1sp4s(No%20fancy%20raises)d(Takeout)p4n(Two%20places)d(%22Penalty%22)5cpp5sppp]133|200[/hv]

1♦ / 1♥ / 1♠ / ? 3♣ is...? (We weren't playing XYZ) 3♣ should be? Thanks
-
Playing for the drop could be a logical alternative if a trump was led from hand at trick twelve, but declarer had only non-trumps. Has nobody ever carelessly under-ruffed or under-finessed before? Be honest. And remember you've just forgotten about TWO trumps :)
-
Careless or* irrational (autocorrected - sry)
-
It's trick 12 and declarer claims the rest, with K9 of trumps in dummy sitting over Q7. Declarer is on lead with only non-trumps in hand. The problem is - declarer doesn't realise trumps are outstanding :) Without the claim, if LHO had ruffed in with the queen, could declarer have carelessly called for the nine of trumps? I know I have certainly played a card on autopilot before. I asked the TD about who claimed, to gauge calibre, but the TD remained respectfully mute. Your ruling?

1-2 page printable 5-card major summary?
zenbiddist replied to zenbiddist's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
That's really good - I'll trim that, thanks -
Hi there, Quite a few beginners have been asking me for a cheat-sheet / system summary for simple standard modern bidding (5-card majors, 15-17 NT, etc). I'm talking 1-2 pages, minimal text, clear visual layout. Can someone please link a good free one? Thank you so much! John
