How to find the slam here?
fluff replied to Forehand94's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
4♥ is really and overbid. 2♥ is forcing for only ONE round and promises only 11; so 3♥ was amply enough with this bad hand. Then responder wld have room for 4c. -
Blame is 100% on opener for being simply macho. Does he know what responder has ? No. How can he decide alone ? Why do we play bridge ? Opener is not playing bridge. Just complete the transfer and wait for partner to clarify.

1♥ is clear in 3rd seat. We play 2 way Drury, no problem with 2♦ response which shows 4 trumps. 2♠ response by partner who passed is Fit showing jump, so we wld reach game in 3 bids. cheers

hi all, My partner and I found an interesting little treatment to take care of the rebid with 4522. Responder bids 1♠ with 3 cards and opener now has no rebid problem. With 4♠, he supports to necessary level. With 4 card support and a raise to 4♠, we rebid 3nt to show 4 card support and 18+. The sequence 1♥ 1♠; 4♠ shows 56xx. And now, one additional advantage, opener can play 1nt :) bernard Fluff

Hi I play with european players, many Italians, who all use odd/even signals, not discards, signals, which are forbidden in ACBLand, right ? Are those signals legal in WBF rules ? thank you Fluff

How will this hands be bid ?
fluff replied to msjennifer's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I am always surprised to see people talking about 2/1 over an opening bid of a minor. 2/1 needs to be combined with a forcing 1nt to work. There is no such thing when you open a minor. The hand here is a standard 1nt response. -
xyz - opener's continuations after invite

Surely, wanting to play bridge and saying that you are sincerely not interested in learning seem to me a contradiction. :) -
xyz - opener's continuations after invite

Hi there In xyz, 2♣ is Forcing to 2♦. Opener has no choice. Take care -
xyz - opener's continuations after invite
fluff replied to smerriman's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
XYZ In the 2 sequences above, I think sign-off by opener after 2♥ is… PASS. 2nt by opener is constructive and says MAX of 12-14. Responder who has stretched (me?) can then pass or rebid 3♥ if he has 6, suit quality not good enough for a jump to 3♥ after the 2♣ relay. Let’s say: Kx A108xxx QJx xx Compared to Kx AQJxxx Jxx xx You can read my extensive article on Internet (XYZ), article that was published on BBO some years ago. However, extensive doesn’t mean comprehensive, as bridge players can add or modify the structure to their taste. Think about this sequence : 1x 1y 1nt 4nt quantitative How can opener know if it is 18 or 19? First of all, responder with 18 and NO FIT, KNOWING opener has MAX 14, should bid only 3nt. That leaves us with 19. Bidding 4nt seems ok, but why not keep some safety in the sequence? Your partner (not you obviously) may have opened with a horrible 12. Why not use this: 1x 1y 1nt 2♣ relay 2♦ forced 3nt = P, I have 19 balanced Why play 4nt when you can play 3? This reminds me of stubborn players who refuse to play Drury. Where is the logic in preferring to play 3♠ instead of 2♠ ??? ☺ With 20 balanced, responder just jumps to 4nt after 1nt by opener. Have fun, xyz is the most fun thing to play. Fluff -
Hi So what do you do with : x xx Kxx KQJxxxx 1nt ? :)
-
2/1 applies only after opening bid of 1M.
-
Playing Kokish relay, this would be our sequence : 2♣ 2♦ (no A, at most 1 king) 2♥ (relay to 2♠) 2♠ 3♦ (shows h+d) 4♦ 4♥ (KCB for d) 4NT (1430) 5♣ (Queen?) 6♦ 7♦ 2♥ show either one suites h, or 2 suites with h, or 25+ balanced. In last case, opener rebids 2nt after 2♠. fluff

Third Seat Openings #1
fluff replied to Zelandakh's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
opening light in 3rd seat is mandatory in modern bridge. Obviously, Drury is a MUST facing a M opening bid. Also, you have to be able to pass ANY response by partner. Here i would open 1♥ because i have 3 spades and can pass a 1sp response. If only 2sp, then i wad consider 2♥. -
What's with 'fourth best'?
fluff replied to oryctolagi's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
For our part, we lead 3/5 all the time. Always leading 4th best vs NT is perfect in theory, but, sometimes, with the bidding pointing you towards the unbid suit, you will lead small from Hxx. So why not systematize 3/5 ? Partner, seeing your smallest, will now right away your count. Obviously, you will lead top from xxx. -
How to bid - where to land?
fluff replied to apollo1201's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Question is : if p passes the double, what do we lead ???? :) -
To make it esier on partner, i think to promise 5+ in 1rst suit is more efficient. If you can have 4-5 either way, partner has an insoluble problem, like those people who Michael with 5-4. Their partner having to guess with 3-3 will end up in 4-3 fit instead of 5-3. Now in balance, you can have 4-4.
-
Read Bergen for exact explanations on that sequence.
-
You have to alert 2c and explain, if asked : p promises 5+ clubs and 4+ cards in a higher suit. When advancer bids 2d, overcaller has to alert and explain, if asked : p is ready to play in d, h and sp.

Dummy Jxx AQJ9xx Jx Ax Declarer AR98x -- AR10xxx Rx 6sp contract. Club Q lead. what is the best line of play ?
-
hi in those who say they know how to play bridge, do you count all the club players that don't know what they are doing ??? :)
-
the guide should this : with 6-4 Major-minor, rebid the M with minimum hand with a king more than minimum (so 15+ pts), rebid minor and, over 2nd bid by partner, rebid the M partner will know then you have 6-4 with a good hand bernard

We play UDCA but with some exceptions, as recommended by Kit Woolsey. So, after partner leads A from AK and there is a threat in dummy, Qxx(x) or singleton, third hand plays suit preference. so here we would play the lowest club, inviting partner to switch diamond.
