  1. It's a pity that you didn't know about the 'confirm bid' gadget sooner. But even if you did,it would have availed you nothing in this case. Pass is not a bid so the device wouldn't have activated :(
  2. I totally agree. Provided he plays the opening correctly,Black can and does win.
  3. As an aggressive player I would chance 4♥ No one can accuse me of underbidding and I want to go with the field. K♣ sitting over the pre-emptor's suit has to be a plus.
  4. I really enjoyed the match. Wish I could get used to the 'reverse' declaring Never easy trying to play bridge standing on your head (!) :(
  5. That whoever invented playing cards and chess must have been chauvinistic. What other reason could there be for ranking the King above the Queen(?) History has shown that there were powerful queens who, although they had male consorts, were absolute autocrats. so how did this anomaly of history come about. Anyone have any ideas?
  6. A very good question. Does anyone have a answer?
  7. "And since when was bridge ever really considered friendly?" For answer I quote from a classic bridge book :- " Why is it,Master Robert, that you humans so often hold disagreeable post mortems? You sit down to play a game as part of your social life. In many cases the players are friends, and in others club acquaintances who are at least supposed to be friendly. Yet how often you say cruel, hurtful, bitter things to each other when all you are doing is discussing the technique of a sport. In other sports, golfers, chess players, footballers and anglers talk vigorously about their exploits-sometimes not too truthfully. But they hardly ever allow their debates to become acrimonious and seldom express themselves rudely or bitingly. Discussions of bidding and play can be of enthralling interest, and things of sheer intellectual delight can be discovered that way. Why,then, don't you humans just enjoy them, without so frequently making them accusatory, quarrelsome, and sometimes even the occasion for a broken friendship? Why is it,Master Robert?" -The Nine of Hearts in "Right through the Pack"
  8. For the same reason as we are arguing here,I suspect.
  9. I have a 10 loser hand and my diamond holding would be totally useless underneath the ♦bidder in a spade contract. Its a close decision but I would pass and try to defeat the 3♦ contract. If it backfired I would hold my hands up and apologise.
  10. Phil, a challenge has been issued. Do you dare to accept? Now we see who's the better player :D
  11. Your challenge has been accepted and completed
  12. That is entirely their choice. When I enter a tournament,my profile is on view for all to see. Whether they choose to invite me or pass me over is a matter for them. The same principle applies when I send an invitation. They can either say 'yea' or 'nay' and the decision is final.
  13. That's kinda difficult when you're 'Narcissic' which I've noticed is a widespread failing on these forums :(
  14. And GIBs never dictate or criticise.....an added bonus(!) :)
  15. I play frequently with GIBs here.....even more so now that BBO has introduced day long tournamnets. And I have to admit they are better than some human partners I've had (!) <_<
  16. Her bidding system was CAB which asked for Aces 'up the line' That was popular in the 30s
  17. Open 1 heart and wait to see how the land lies... bear in mind that, since partner has already passed,a change of suit from him is no longer forcing.
  18. I remember reading once how the late legendary player and author Rixi Markus related in one of her books how she frequently had very heated discussions especially with male players who were half her age. Now,I am no way in the class of the illustrious Mrs M but I can see where she is coming from (!) <_< "His hand shall be against every man and every man's hand against him" -Genesis 16:12
  19. Well,it's a comfort to know that I am not alone here in that respect (!) <_<
