  1. EZ peazy - you bid your 2!D. then the fun starts - on the next round depending on who you play, what you hear, & how you feel about "walking the dog". You are worth game, but how about 2!S-3!S - 4!S?

  6. GROW UP, bridge players! The incredible advantage of Mini-Roman 2!D opener (10-12+ HCP) is magnified by P-P-P-2!D, allowing the best contract to be found and preempting them effectively. Can't give that up, esp. considering the frequency. 4th seat ACOL 2- major and 3-bids are clearly best compatible treatment !H
  7. Get real, BBOers. theres noway to describe or elicit that you can legitimately construct. Even if u thought you could, - how would you ever trust the BoltHead's bids? JUST BID 6!H/ 1D and take the practical view to the probable right spot and save time, agony, and ultimate psychological breakdown
  8. Pure Goldilocks Syndrome: 6!H tastes TOO HOT 4!H tastes TOO COOL 5!H feels juuuuuuuuust right (implies !S control, obviously) Your fault, dear partner :(
  9. as long as i am budgeting for 2 trump losers & a !D (or vice-versa), I choose to bet on partners !H and not my !S. EL PASSO :)
  10. I was preparing a psychotic rant that shames all idiots who believe 2C is anything but non-encouraging correction of 1NT. That's because you shouldn't treat the ambuiguous 1C as a real suit in many common situations, like this! (Also like the nebulous 1D Precision opener) Our "tongue-in-cheek" rule is - "If we ever Q-bid Clubs over them, we either GOT clubs - or we DON'T GOT EM (You work it out, pard!)" I guess that leaves 3C jump here as natural inv./force? But wait - I now admit we surely DO need a force - so I repent my hate-sin! And I offer in expiation the 3!C jump-Q here as the artificial force! That's OK - we still have 2 good highways to heaven - choose 3NT or 5C - God bless us, every one! Razorsharp
  11. Sorry, I meant to suggest P - 1S - 2D - 4D Wormwood, not 4NT RKB
  12. Sorry, I meant to suggest P - 1S - 2D - 4D Wormwood, not 4NT RKB
  13. Very interesting! I would open a weak 2D N and S responds 2NT, fetching a JOgust rebid of 3S = 6-card D, great weak 2. Then S bids 4C RKB(D) then 6D. Rule: 4C by responder directly or on next round is RKB for 2 or 3 level preemptor's suit. (Over 3-opener I play a modified downward RKB) If 2D is systemically Micro-Polynesian, etc. I PASS then 2D/1S, Now South rebids 4NT RKB(D)
  14. If you open 3C, you should gird your loins and be prepared to REBID 4NT if opps steam & scream into 4S (maybe even 4H?) THAT will surely stun the viewgraph audience!! But for me, I'll put my money on opening 3NT (we play NUMNUTZ, so that = 1-suit 4C OR 4D preempt(6-7 winners at these colors), saving 4C & 4D openers as strongish 4H & 4S pumped-up "preemptz". 3NT still gives you a chance to play 3NT, you gotta admit! :)
  15. Good morning & Merry Christmas everyone! (even my enemies list on BBO) We and all the world celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus - even though He was born in early April of the year 4 B.C. Just like me to get another loved one's birthday wrong, again! But isn't it the thought that counts? I plan to eat plenty of bacon for breakfast, then later go out & shoot off all my rifle bullets into the air, as is traditional in my neck of the woods!
  16. I'll just bid what I think i can make - 5D = 10, 4NT = 4, X = 6. great problem!
  17. I'm all for 3S here - not a diaster (yet). PhilKing says it all 4 me. Pray tell us what bid crushed our poor LuckyLoser this time??
  18. 2H MUST be non-forcing in modern bridge, sinc 1S is 7+. That colors my belief that I have resemblance to a "moose" - perhaps only an "elk." At matchpoints, I'm barely OK with elking 2S. But at IMPs, I trumpet 3C, channeling my inner MOOSE! razorsharp
  19. WOW! What a dilemma! Toss-up between X & 4NT? Pass is pusillanimous, as action(s) probabaly improve our chances. Over 4S opener, X is "takeout with many QT's" (3 or is it 2? GULP) 4NT is any 2-OR-3 suited takeout. Theoretically, partner's 5D/4NT pull would be "pass or correct" but I'd probably leave it in unless LHO whakked it out!) I vote for 4NT since I'm S-VOID for offense+, and they have so-big a fit that 5S is imminent. My 3rd QT on D is very suspect. Both sides could make here, but if EITHER side makes we probably should be bidding, eh? I rate 4NT=10, X=5, P=2. trust me!H I'm razorsharp
  20. "Logically" I play 3NT is the stronger way to game, ie 15-16. 2NT then 3NT is weaker, like 11+ - 14. Ergo, West should bid 6NT/3NT straight away. Razorsharp
  21. Zealnd's line is straightforwad & seems clearcut to me - "PARANOIA strikes deep - into your declarer play it does creep" but c'est la bridge razorsharp
  22. AHA - just ask that to Grue, Woolsey, et alii - 3S is a relay to 3NT, (defaut) showing a typical balanced opener with ONE spade stopper! (i.e. Axx,Qx,KQxx,Kxxx) that may gain a positional advantage from opener declaring 3NT - like holding SQxx, even maybe Jx! razorsharp
  23. Dontcha wish you had PASSED your trash? Garbage in, garbage out! But now, facing extinction, I'll guess 2NT instead of 3H, as 10/11ththths of my HCP are outside OUR suitz! razorsharp
  24. The scientists have had this one right since 1927. Pure & simple, a "THOUGHT PROBLEM" solved logically. 5H shows headless H support Qxxx or xxxxx and a totally solid hand outside - PLUS at least one VOID! Having a void confounds the use of Key-card Blackwwod, and how can you excpect to get to Exclusion Blackwood from here - the opponents are about to erupt and spoil your party. "Bid one heart higher, partner, for any A &/or K of trump!!"
