  1. Hi. In a couple of weeks I'll travel by air with a few friends. Four of us are bridgeplayers. There's no internet connection on the flight we'll be on. Playing with real cards is close to impossible, we might not even be seated next to eachother. Is there a way to play bridge with our tablets or phones, as we would on BBO, but using some other connection, i.e. bluetooth? It would certainly shorten the the flight time. Any suggestions? Ta, Tom
  2. Hi. What are the alert rule in this situation. 1c - (1h) - dbl? 99% of bridge players show a 4 card spade when they double. I once had a pd who wanted to use dbl in this situation as penalty. Question: 1. Should I alert the normal neg double as it doesn't show hearts? 2. Or should I alert the penalty double as that's really very rare? Tom
  3. Don't know if this is the correct play, but suspect west has something like A-K-x-x/---/K-x/K-J-x-x-x-x-x. How could he double without Sp A-K? And how could east bid 3D without a long suit and shortage in clubs? So H J to K and hook the heart if west shows out. After clearing trumps I'll play ClubQ and let west keep the King. He can play a diamond which I ruff in hand and then I hook the cl J
  4. Surely east cannot have 4 spades after his 2H opening. I can see no reason for west to hold up if he had q 3rd w or wo the A. So if spades split 3-2 east must have the Q. But if east has the Q why didn't he cover the first spade? Only reason must be he's void in clubs and wants a ruff. But with 5 clubs on west's hand with the sp A why didn't he try to give his pd a club ruff instead of leading a heart? For me ony remaining logical solution is that west holds A-Q-8-7 (or 6). He is hoping I'll continue with trumps and then clear trumps leaving me without chance as there's no cover for the hearts anymore. Therefore I play a club to hand and take the spade hook over west. When the sp 10 holds I run my clubs.
  5. Please ignore my last comment. Must have been half asleep or brain dead. Got it completely wrong as this of course is not a Lebensohl situation. I stand corrected.
  6. This is why there's something called Lebensohl. If using Lebensohl you'd know pd was not very strong and passing is then much easier.
  7. Sorry about the double post. If east promises 6 hearts west cannot force north in hearts. Let's give west sp: A-Q-8-7. Sp K from dummy at trick two taken by west, heart forces dummy, sp J to west and a new heart forcing dummy's last trump. Now come to hand with a club, score the sp 9 and play a spade to west's 8 pitching diamonds from dummy. With no more hearts west must now give us the rest. So if east promises 6 hearts for his opening bid it's a close call what to do. My vote would go to SpK at trick two. However, if it's possible that east only holds 5 hearts I'm all in favour of your line.
  8. Easy pass. When pd leaps to 4 sp there's no other choice than to trust him. I've got nothing extra to suggest another bid than pass. Pd leaps to 4s, if slam is available it gives me the chance to leap across the table.
  9. 4s. Sign off for me. No aces, let's tell pd 4 sp is enough. He could still go on if he's strong enough. Let's say you did ask for shortness. Whatever the answer would be you'd then have to sign off leaving pd with impression he had shortness in the wrong suit. No harm done probably but more accurate to tell pd I don't really care where you've got your singel/void.
  10. And there lies the problem. Pd will expect you to have a good hand when you double and might pass for penalites. However, your hand offers virtually nothing in defense and 1 spx probably makes. So what about 1NT? I don't like that as it doesn't describe your hand. There's every chance pd can provide a spade stopper, but he passed so it would probably be difficult to find the last trick to make 3 NT. As game seems not available for us my bid is 3d, shows my hand and is probably what we can make as well. Puts pressure on op. I'm not too afraid of op. making 4 sp since north couldn't support his pd's 1 sp bid. If my passed pd surprisingly did have something extra he'd bid on, and I'd then bid 3NT. So 3d it is in my book.
