Imps, all vul. Q65 Q943 976 KQ9 KT A652 AKQ42 T2 South declares 3NT (South opened 1NT, North rasied to 3) lead: 6 of clubs to the K and 5. You unblocked the ten. Plan the play.

Opps 2 level openings: 2D: 6+ H or 5+-4+ S and minor 2H: 6+ S or 5+ -4+ H and minor 2S: Both minor or both majors All bids are 6-11 HCP. Any suggestion for an effective defence against these 2-bids? Thanks a lot

I held this hand in a club game KT8 QT432 2 8732 Partner opens 2NT (21-22, may have 5 card major) I think it should be clear to go for game but there is a problem. I suppose it is clearly better to play in a major game if there is a fit (maybe even a moysian is better). However, I think all the methods I know of over a 2NT opening cannot find all the possible fits , be it, Puppet stayman, Romex or natural stayman with smolen. You have to either transfer to H (risk missing a 5-3 S fit) or stayman (unable to show 5 card H later) My query is whether there is an easy or simple way to overcome this problem and find all your major fits if possible. My instinct is that it is not really possible to do that below 3NT but maybe if you are willing to play 4NT sometimes when there is no fit, it might be possible. No way to prove this though. Thanks for comments.

4H. No real problem for now <_<

All Vul, Matchpoints you hold: x KJ93 x AKT7653 LHO opens 4S, partner doubles (Optional) , passed to you. Your bid? Will it differ if it's imps? (You do not have a agreement on what 4NT is here. So logic rules if you choose to bid it  )

The idea is good, but I'm not so sure the strip sq works ;) When North is thrown in with Jx south have a singleton Q, so the throw in is invalid. Maybe if it's double dummy and North starts with QJx clubs then it'll probably acheive the ending you have in mind. (North have to split when you lead a club to dummy) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NB: It is worth noting that double dummy, North probably have to unblock the D so that he can put South in with the third D to escape a endplay. Declarer can prob endplay North if he doesnt do so, (I might be wrong about this)

This hand came up in a team match and I'm curious which is the best line of play? Dummy: T9 653 AKQ65 K93 QJ8432 K8 3 AJ72 South declares 4Sx (doubled by West) The defence starts with Q of H to the Ace and a H back. You play a small S to the T and it holds (East discards a H) Plan your play. (If you play another S, West will let it hold too)

NV against Vul. You hold: 52 KT9632 A32 K2 RHO deals and opens 1NT (15-17). You play natural overcalls over their NT. Playing with a relatively new partner, we have an agreement to play a sound style in competing. Do you bid at Matchpoints? At IMPs? Thanks a lot :D

As stated, I'm home if clubs are 3-2, and it seems if you don't take club tricks you won't be able to make. I would take D ace, cross over to H ace and lead a club from dummy. If East plays small, I will overtake and play clubs from the top. THis will improve things when East have a singleton Ace of C. (As opposed to K of clubs from hand) Not sure if this is the solution wanted but cannot see if I can cater for other 4-1 breaks. :)

You hold: K5 QJ92 Q9654 82 All Vul, RHO deals and opens 1H, partner overcalls 2C. Your bid? Comments greatly appreciated

Keeping score while playing matchpoints
bridgeboy replied to han's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
For those who find it is distracting, Are you distracted by the fact you are doing well/not well? Or is it the scoring part (ie, keeping a scorecard as you move and scribbling scores even as you are late) that distracts you? Sometimes, I find keeping a scorecard a bit cumbersome but have to do so anyway to doublecheck my scores to ensure the scorer input the scores correctly. (You'll be surprised how many 'corrections' there are, esp in a big field with pickup slips) Not sure how things work at your clubs but is there any gd alternative? -
I presume the bidding went: 1S 2S 2S ? 3H is my choice, though it might be tough to show the Kx S later when 4S is better despite a 5-2 fit.

Playing matchpoints for both hands below: (A) All vul, You hold J5 KQT3 AQT762 7 You deal and open open 1D, LHO overcall 1S, partner bid 1NT, passed to you. Your bid I believe it's a choice between Pass and 2D? ( B ) All Vul, You hold AK763 AT64 93 Q2 You deal and open 1S, partner respond 1NT (Non-forcing). Your bid? Again, this should be between pass and 2H? Thanks all for giving your opinions. ;)

With no entry problems, How do you play J64 opp K975 for (i) Max tricks (ii) 2 tricks (iii) 3 tricks (iv) 1 trick? :)

Imps, NV against Vul. You held: AK KJx Jxx AQJ9x Partner deals and passes. RHO opens 1D. Your bid? Please discuss your plans for your rebid.

something wrong with your bidding? I think RHO bidded 2NT :( Lead? Club
-
Wasn't sure how to ask.. so might as well put the entire play out for you to judge :) Dummy: 82 K654 QJ98 874 Hand: KQT74 A7 653 AK3 Bidding is short. South opens 1S, North rebids 2S after a forcing 1NT. West leads the AK of D and continues with the 7 for p to ruff . (West started with AK72) East returned the ten of H. Declarer took the Ace and played the Q of S. East took the Ace and played the 2 of H to the J and K. Declarer played the Q of D and East ruffed with the J and South discarded the club loser. Now east played the Q of H to promote the remaining 9x trumps in his p's hand... Down 1! bad play? Or just sweet defence? :) Full hands below: [hv=n=s82hk654dqj98c874&w=s953hj3dak72cjt96&e=saj6hqt982dt4cq52&s=skqt74ha7d653cak3]399|300|[/hv]

Only worry is the blood may not come? Doesnt partner needs a considerably better hand to make a balancing double here? Not too sure what are the prevailing thoughts.. is a balancing dbl automatic with any hand? Thanks.

Matchpoints, EW Vul, You sit South and held: KT9 AK8 K953 KQ4 Partner opened 1C* (3+) RHO wriggled a little and came up with an annoying 3H. You have the standard 10 seconds to make your call... what is it? Just in case, No real discussion what 4NT will mean but you get the feeling he will not take it as quantitative (Should he?) * systematically, all 4441 with 44 minors will open 1C.

When I tried to review the the vugraph files for this past Camrose trophy, I found that there are no deals for the open room. Only for the closed room. There is commentary there but then it is obvious the commentary is for the open room.. hence I am not able to read through the file coherently... Is this a known problem or did I fix something wrongly? Any way I can sort it out? Thanks...

Creating bridge movies
bridgeboy replied to bridgeboy's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Hi.. I agree the movie files are useful. This is what I do: From BBO main screen. I click on 'movie' and open a file that i played or saved from 'myhands' Then I view the play till where I want to add some comments in.. Click on 'annotate' and add in the stuff. It works ok on the whole but there are some minor problems as stated above.. -
I am trying out using the 'movie' feature on BBO to annotate some hands I play and send them for reviews. However I think I run into some problems.. think may need some professional guidance :) 1. Sometimes after I add in my annotation, the play of the hand changes completely, especially the opening lead. Also the names of the players also seems to change direction. Not sure what I did here. 2. If I happen to click on a particular bid in the auction in the 'annotate' mode, I am not able to view the play correctly as in I can no longer see the cards played, just them 'disappearing '. There is also a further problem where the play changes completely 3. If I want to collect say 4 to 5 different hands and put them in one movie (something like a team scores) , how do I do it starting with the 4 or 5 indiviual files? Did I inadvertently misclick anything or inserted an annotation at the wrong point? Thanks all... :)

Hi.. I was waiting for the votes to be finalised but since I was requested.... I think the final count shows players favouring a 3NT after 1S bid. At the table as long as you do not sign off in 1nt.. you should get to 3NT which is around 40 to 50%. Partner held: xx AKxx Jxxx AJx I was interested to see if players would upgrade their 'non-opening' into a GF hand when p didn't really bid anything to improve their hand. It turns out to be so. I personally chose 2NT after 1S but gave partner some agonising moments whether to accept. I certainly would not fault him for passing 2nt :) Comments welcomed.. thanks

Hi all, At imps, vul against not. You sit West and hold: AKJ72 76 854 432 South Opens 1NT and North raises to 3NT. Your lead? (You play 4th best leads. A asking for unblocking/count. K for attitude) Would it be different at mps? Or if North invites with 3C (long club suit) and South accepts? Thanks all.

Matchpoints , Vul against Not You hold KQJ4 QJ7 K109 654 playing strong NTs, RHO pass, so do you and your LHO. In fourth seat, your p open 1D (3+) Your bid? If you respond 1S your p will rebid 1NT, your bid then?
