  1. I can't comment on my level of play. It varies. :D Just a clarification on our agreements. We had not discussed this bidding before but I was dealt that hand and had to find a bid. When I put down the dummy and West asked, my response was: "We have no agreement but I meant it to show minors" When told about the ruling, I did mention that we had no agreement, although after that session, we discussed and have one now :) Anyway, as mentioned, the ruling does not really affect anything. I'm just posting it to find out about how far out my understanding of the bridge laws (as a non TD) are. I think I have a pretty good idea now. Thanks all for your advice.
  2. I must first make it known that I'm not a qualified TD. Indeed, when director was first called, I (South) thought the case is clear as there was really no infraction and the director seemed to concur. However, to my astonishment, I was told the next day that 3 qualified directors discussed and ruled it as a case of damage due to misinformation. The result was largely inconsequential. Just wondering if I should have appealed the ruling. Thanks all for your comments :) Any further advice will be greatly appreciated.
  3. [hv=pc=n&s=sjt3h72dk864ckq32&w=sq852haqj43dacaj5&n=sa9764ht9dj932c84&e=skhk865dqt75ct976&d=w&v=e&b=16&a=1hp2h2nd3sppdppp]399|300[/hv] In a Matchpoint game, The above bidding occured. South meant the bid to show minors, North did not alert 2nt but when East asked about the 2NT after the 3S bid, explained the bid as "I'm not sure, no agreement" as she did not understand what it meant. West opt to dbl 3S but it proved to be an insufficent +500. EW called the director after the hand. How would you rule?
  4. Over the last couple of days, I came across a few hands which I found some interesting bidding sequences All cases at imps, 1. ♠KQ96 ♥Q ♦Q7543 ♣J64 Favourable vul, it goes 1C on your left, partner doubles, 3C (weak) on your right. Your bid? 2. ♠AT53 ♥K8 ♦KT843 ♣86 All vul, it goes 1C on your left, partner doubles, 1H on your right. Your plan? 3. ♠93 ♥8753 ♦AKT63 ♣JT Vul vs not, once again it goes: 1C on your left, partner doubles, 3C (weak) on your right. Your plan? (a) If you pass, partner doubles again (b) If you bid 3D, partner raises to 4D For all the problems, how will your bidding plans vary if it's matchpoints instead? Thank you in advance!
  5. Vul against not , imps You hold: AJT872 AQ JT7 Q3 You open 1S and hear the bidding go: 1S (2H) X (Pass) ? Your bid?
  6. I'm not leading a heart. So it's between a high Spade and a diamond... I think matchpoints tips it enough for a diamond lead.
  7. Imps, all vul, You hold AQ7xx KQTx xx AQ after 2 passes, RHO opened 1C. At the table I chose to double (in retrospect, perhaps a poor bid?) the bidding proceeded: Pass Pass (1C) X (1S) Pass (2C) ? what is your plan now?
  8. [hv=n=sj653h742dk73ca76&s=sak92hqt983daq8ck]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding: South opens 1H in fourth seat, North gave a simple raise and South bid the game. South declares 4H. West (rather quickly) leads the 4 of S (4th best if from length). Your thoughts?
  9. Hi all, The following end-position came up in the last session of the Cavendish Pairs. [hv=n=skha854dj7c&w=sj73hdt54c7&e=sht7dq9ca98&s=s8hdak632c6]399|300|[/hv] No trumps, South on lead and need 5 tricks. It is not too difficult to find the winning line but what I am really interested in is what this ending is called. Hopefully some of you can shed some light ;) Thanks all!
  10. Yah.. it is not a right bid.. but since it came up like 4 years ago.. I can claim I'm still pretty new to the game.. :P It was a fun game after all
  11. Hehe.. I verify this is true because I was the doubler with 7 solid D :-) Btw.. your clubs were Qx opp Jx my only 3400 so far :)
  12. Hi all, This hand came up in a team game. The players are playing a 2/1 base system. [hv=d=s&n=saktxxhxxdkxckqjx&s=sqxxhxdajxxxxcaxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The bidding (uninterrrupted) went: 1D---1S 2D---3C 3S---4C (agreed as cuebid) 4D---4S Pass Clearly, it is desirable to be in slam. Who should have bidded differently? Thanks in advance!
  13. Started off at 17 in College.. only started playing "seriously" 2 years later though :)
  14. I've played for 7 years, competitively for about 5 years.. But I reckon I've played more hands than most from my country
