  1. As this seem to have triggered a discussion on how the hand must be played, I am including the link to the column. Thanks for all the responses.
  2. Thank you, this makes much sense. But why not 3NT, why jump to 4NT? Would a 3NT be perceived as something else?
  3. I came across this deal in a bridge column. I could not get my head around the 4NT rebid. [hv=pc=n&s=sat85ht432daqt4c6&w=skq932hkq98dcj983&n=shadk8653cakq7542&e=sj764hj765dj972ct&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1s2cpp2h4np6dp7dppp]399|300[/hv] The column does mention that the bidding is aggressive, but how does 4NT end up hinting ♦?
  4. @SFI and @Kaitlyn, I totally missed the club losers while considering the slam. Thanks for the responses...
  5. @STI and @Kaitlyn, I totally missed the club losers while considering the slam. Thanks for the responses...
  6. North opens with 1♦ [hv=pc=n&s=sqjhkq2dakj762ct6&n=sak97ha96d9854c75&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=p1dp]266|200[/hv] What should South bid, and how should the subsequent bidding progress to reach a slam, or at least 5♦? Please advise, SAYC preferred...
  7. Appreciate your responses. Thank you!
  8. Hi, In the following deal, 6♦ seems possible. Sticking to SAYC, how can one arrive at this? [hv=pc=n&s=sa3ha975da7653c97&w=skq972h642dt2cjt2&n=st85h3dkj984cak83&e=sj64hkqjt8dqcq654]399|300[/hv] Please advise. Regards,
  9. Thank you. This must be the best play, and as you have rightly pointed it out, this cannot be claimed as we do not know how the cards are lying between E/W.
  10. Hi, [hv=pc=n&s=sa4h8dca54&w=skj2htdcj3&n=sqt7hkdac7&e=s8h9d7cqt9]399|300[/hv] NT contract, North to play. Computer thinks that N/S can claim 5 tricks. I can only see 4. I scratched my head, pondered for a while, but still cannot figure it out. Now, there is a remote possibility that the program could be wrong in this particular scenario. Are 5 tricks possible if E/W put up their best defence? Regards,
  11. Hi, This week, I saw two instances where the bidding went 1♥-2♥-3NT. 1♥, raised by partner and then opener rebids 3NT. What does the 3NT rebid indicate after a suit fit is identified? Regards,
  12. I was practising at the wonderful site http://www.saycbridge.com, when the following hand came up: ♠ K 10 4 3 ♥ Q 9 7 ♦ A 8 7 6 ♣ 10 3 South (me) passes. West opens with 1♥. North bids 2♥(Michael's) and then East passes. What should I(South) bid? I bid 3♥, since as per my notes this shows interest in a game in ♠. Interestingly, the site corrected me to 3♠. As per my notes however, 3♠ is pre-emptive. (Apparently it could not recognize the 3♥ as a valid response, which was a surprise.) Please suggest the appropriate bid. Regards, Vipin
  13. I am extremely sorry, the deal that I posted was the wrong one. I have corrected it; it should make some sense now.
  14. Hi, Please find below the auction in a game played in WBridge5 NORTH EAST SOUTH WEST ************************ PASS 1S X 4D! X 4H! PASS 4S PASS 4NT PASS 5D! PASS 6S PASS PASS PASS I could make out that the 4♦ response to 1♠ was a Splinter. North's double shows that he is long in ♦. However, I do not understand the 4♥ rebid (alerted) by East. This looks to be some sort of a transfer. Please clarify what bid this is. If there are any online materials on this, please do point to the same as well. Diagrammed deal below: North S: 8 2 H: Q 9 7 6 D: A10 7 4 2 C: 8 6 West East S: A 9 6 4 S: K J 7 5 3 H:10 3 2 H: A 8 D: D: K 9 8 6 3 C: K J 5 4 3 2 C: A South S: Q10 H: K J 5 4 D: Q J 5 C: Q10 9 7 Thanks, Vipin
