  1. From Robot imp tourney Robot North (my partner) holds KQT86 VOID JT98 QJ98 It's RHO (West) opens 1S in 1st seat, Robot passes, East responds 1NT (forcing), and I bid 2H... followed by (West) PASS... and North now bids 2S. This is a forcing H invite. Robot has Spades... it has slipped a gear and gives a non-bid.
  2. Neither side Vul, GIB holds flat crappy 9 pt hand holding KT73 T98 J8 KQ43 ... GIB partner passes in 1st seat and your RHO passes. You open 1D 3rd seat, 4th seat passes and GIB bids 1S -- 2H by RHop, you bid 2S, your LH op bids 3H and you are screwed because GIB partner now leaps to 4S!! ... Its hand is by some devalued to 8 points by the bidding -- its call even with 9 points is pass or marginal 3S call at best. 4S is a complete non bid from GIB. X -2 against real ops would be a normal result -300 vs. part-score. AGAINST GIBS it is only -100 because they often forget to double and/or defend optimally ... but still VERY irritating.
  3. Robot p holds K98762 , J7 , K73 , 96 You open 1NT , P, 2H(Robot),p, 2S (you accept xfer), p, p, X, p (you), 2NT, 4S (robot suicides) .... maddening... a complete non-bid. 3S I could live with I suppose. B|TW was Matchpoints, White vs. White
  4. Auction: RobotPartner RHO YOU LHO 1C 1D pass 1H pass pass 3NT You ARE NOW DOOMED robot takes this as UNUSUAL NT OVERCALL... You actually trap-passed with a 6 card D suit and no clear bid. Now you cannot bid your 3 NT game with robot for a partner...
  5. AGREED BRADLEY: there are places where GIB needs tuning up... but I've done some programming and frankly I wouldn't know how to do nearly as well. I just posted to pass along an instance of need for change to my betters :)
  6. I have noted that the robots make non-bids as follows... p-p-p-ROBOT ... In 4th seat GIB opens 2!H or 2!S with 6-card rotten suit and 6 soft points plus maybe a stiff for dist. value. The expected value of partner's holding is (40-6)/3 = 11 points No serious bridge player would open this hand as the hand most probably belongs to the ops. Ops have expected value 23 points vs. your pair's expected value 17 points. Strategically, there is no one to pre-empt as all prior have passed, so the bid is not a pre-empt, it is just wrong. I can maybe see opening a hand at the 2-level in 4th seat with 10 or 11 HCP or something -- because of possibility for part-score but not this kind of bid with 6 HCP (or 7 with dist).
  7. There are still some insanities in the GIBS but they are getting better and better... Here is one I found crazy making. You are in 3rd seat Partner-GIB is dealer neither side vulnerable. Auction goes Pass- pass (you bid) 1NT - Pass - 2!D (by partner) - X - 2!H (you accept xfer) - pass - pass - 3!D on your right... auction continues ... - (you)pass - pass - 4H (GIB)... all pass 4H by GIB is a non-bid IMHO. Incidentally partner's holding is 10 x , Q 10 x x x, Q 10, K J 9 8 In this auction 3!H invite and compete is possible -- but jump to 4H does not seem like real bridge...
