  1. I have problems with the sintaxis of the score function in dealer I tried for example #slam1 produce 100 predeal south SAKT65, H76, DA973, CK8 predeal north SJ872, HAT, DT4, CA9732 action average "Score Av." score(none, x6S, tricks (south, spades)) I changed the sintaxis of score function in different ways but always returns a Sintaxis error in the last line. I do not have the correct sintaxis for the vulnerability maybe this is the cause. Anybody has tested this function with success and could help me? Thank you PS: This is what Help page says score(vulnerability, contract, tricks) Returns the positive or negative score that declarer will make if the given contract, at the given vulnerability condition, is played and the given number of tricks are made. The syntax for "contract" is of the form "x3N" for 3 no-trumps, "x7C" for 7 clubs, etc; the leading "x" is needed. There is currently no way to specify that the contract is doubled, nor that it is re-doubled. The result will be positive if the contract makes, negative if it goes down.
  2. Thanks for the great answers. Now I understand much better
  3. [hv=pc=n&w=sat42haq8d62cq542]133|100[/hv] I opened 1♣- Pass- 1♥-2♦-? What do you think? I bid 2♠ showing control and my partner closed the bidding with 3NT (not a bad contract at the end) Was it a reverse? Was 2♥ a better move? Pass? My partner guarantees only 6 points Thanks
  4. About the Nazi references... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law By the way I think that a rating system will be good for BBO. I confess that make an intensive use of BBOSkill when the service was operative. Of course it could be better but with good results you roughly have better ranking. I do not think that people will start cheating with their rankings. You want to play better, it is a nonsense have a super-expert ranking and the playing force of a beginner. In any case a few people toying with their ranking do not affect the usability of the service. I, as a beginner+ or intermediate-, have, in the current situation probably more luck in entering in a higher level table than with the ranking system. But the motivational factor compensates.
  5. Thank you all for your kind advice. I found your answers very useful. :)
  6. My level is more or less a low intermediate (play mostly in internet). I basically count points and try to imagine how the other people hands will go. With partscores and games I think I can survive with my SAYC knowledge (means I am satisfied in this point). I try not to go so far avoiding complications. When the things gets competitive I act aggresively with good suits and favorable Vul. I need to be better on that but by now I think it is OK. My problem is with good hands. I feel insecure, not with the tools to reach it, but with the evaluation of slam possibility. It seems that an answer is to study LTC, "to discover slams with 25 points and game with 20 points". I read a post about LTC in general discussion here and there was a lot of discussion about the topic. I want to be as better as I could, and I dont believe in shortcut and miracle recipe. I have the Kinger book ( I am reading it) but I wonder if it is going to help me or if I have to take it seriously. There is books of Lawrence on Judgment on Evaluation but I dont know if they are for me in this moment.
  7. Thank you for your kind answers and advice. I understand that starting with 1D is leave me better in a position but 1♦-1♥-P-2♥-2♠ is not a reverse? or in such a competitive situation we can forget about reverses? or the key point is that if partner pass the reverse is off?
  8. [hv=pc=n&s=s9ht832d94c986532&w=saqj4h965dj2cakq7&n=sk8652hadaqt753c4&e=st73hkqj74dk86cjt&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1s2hp3h4dppp]399|300[/hv] I was North and went down two for a not so good result in IMP (Score: -1,07). Despite this result I thought that my strategy of bid 4D was correct view my singleton heart for a difficult defense, my p with (almost) nothing and good diamond suit. The idea was to pass in the heart game. I wonder if I was too much aggresive or was the right choice. What do you think?
  9. Thank you very much for your answers. Very clear explanations. By reading this forum I realize how much I still have to learn :) One more question (sorry if I am too basic for this group): I understand that 4th suit bid says nothing about my partner's strenght on that suit. Then my 3rd bid of 2NT was incorrect without a stopper in diamonds. We could have ended in a NT contract with no control in diamonds Is it right?
  10. [hv=pc=n&s=sa62hk98642dakj6c&w=sq97htd7542ckj965&n=skj84ha5d983cat87&e=st53hqj73dqtcq432&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=p1cp1hp1sp2dp2np3hppp]399|300[/hv] I am North. We reached a bad contract. I was expecting my casual partner to raise to 3NT o 4♥ but his last bid of 3♥ left me in without nothing to say. I didnt like 4♥ with only two cards and 3NT without ♦ stop. Was I forced to respond to his 3♥ bid sealing a contract considering his 4th suit as GF? Do his heart repetition means a 6+ cards? Slam interest? Anybody can help me? Thanks
