  1. As someone without 50 posts: Agreed. Also, I'm a lurker here. I have very few posts, but I do read all corners of the forum... Coming from this position: This quote kind of bothers me. I feel like this is a space provided by BBO for discussion of many happy things - all aspects of bridge, the software, whatever we want within reason, etc. As a space provided by BBO, BBO is allowed to try and shape it, to create the environment they want. (And honestly to me, it feels like a fairly permissive one.) Sure, people are allowed to try to use the voting system how they want. Heck, passing out a bunch of upvotes seems like a nice thing to do. I don't really know the people involved here, don't understand motivations fully, etc. However, barmar et al are allowed to determine what they consider abuse of the system. When they do, it's not intellectual censorship for them to do so. It's them keeping the space they provide for us in the shape they want it. We're in their house. As such, it's both respectful, and wise (lest we find ourselves on the doorstep looking in!) to respect their wishes as best we can.
  2. From the article: "We work together towards goals that advance the interests of the entire region... thanks to the trust built between us over many years and without the pressures that dominate the political arena" Even if you disagree with the science, wouldn't this be worth the money itself?
  3. I would prefer it to not change, as I will often look at someone's profile without meaning to send them a message, and then accidentally send them a message.
  4. Another vote here for 1♠ with 3♠ continuation over 1NT. I'm also okay with the strong club.
  5. Why? I use it rarely, but when I do, it's a genuine misclick. Similar to a mechanical error when pulling a card from the bidding box or my hand.
  6. There's a pair in my region I've run into a few times which does not open 1NT at all. "What's your 1NT range?" "We don't open it."
  7. Apparently I should have. My previous experience (I do this with alarming frequency :( ) had been that so long as your opponent followed to the trick, it was established. It's quite possible that's wrong, which would be very good to know. (Although 'quit doing that' should be the ultimate solution to this one...)
  8. (As declarer.) Because I didn't realize I had miscalled until dummy was playing the card and RHO was following to the trick. I did not make my own ruling -- I didn't think fast enough to stop play. If I had figured out what was wrong in the split-second I was allowed, I would have stopped what was going on. I didn't. (Also, as this is a more-frequent-than-desired error, I'm trying to pick up the habit of calling for rank and suit, which will ideally protect me most of the time...)
