  1. Wondering how to install this program on Mac? I had the older deal 3.1.7 on dos run just fine
  2. Interesting topic; yes, "In which" would make it seem that the suit that was led the trick before should be continued is given the higher priority than the other 3 suits was my interpretation as well... "with which" would be more interpreted to mean that second way people were talking about
  3. Hmmm; If that were to happen, I guess you could pretend the less looking good major as 3 cards and open the same weak nt the other person had; gonna have the points get to game in any case just have to know what contract and where to play it... Edit I see what your question intended to be; I would they would be able to even in acbl standards; just mark 4 card majors in 3rd/4th seat
  4. That's why they only use the weak nt pass with both 4 card majors; no need to use staymen at all; though transfers are another story
  5. Yes; XX followed by 3S later in the auction (asking for stopper for 3nt as well as advertised shortness in Spades) could very well be the best call as it then allows potentially for a contract in either nt, clubs or possibly even diamonds [not shown by anybody yet]... Did not realize there were 3 pages to this topic already. Edit; after reading all 3 pages looks as though even with the probable 3nt partner should still pull that contract out again (maybe to 4c) as having a double stopper in spades is likely ruled out and they have a void in spades
  6. Interesting auction, 1C,X, typically XX would show a hand with 10 or more points, as well as potentially wanting to double at least 1 of the suits that would be shown by the opponents later in the auction; the partner did have decent trumps should the opponent have decided to bid Hearts and/or Diamonds
  7. 1. If I were to open the hand, the opening bid given would be the best one possible and most of time I would make this bid 2. I would not pull the contract toward anything else after the bidding given as it appears the points will work in the given direction and I have no extra length in any suit of interest. Not sure If I held partners hand If 4 to only the ace was quite enough to goto interest in no-trump when the opponent overcalled that suit; this could be a decent challenge to bid out, but with points for just short of game, this might be the hand to sit for 2 clubs after the reopening double by opener. But once partner chooses to show interest in no-trump rather than try for a Major; to then try for a Major suit game in a 4-3 fit with the Likely Ruffing coming from the hand with 4 trump, is not a good thing in most circumstances.
  8. It would be awesome if you could implement the tournament catagories "Tourneys starting within the hour" & "Tourneys starting later" into the web version of bbo. To the best of my knowledge, right now you can only see & interact (i.e. send invites to other memebers) with tournaments starting sooner than 2 hours from now, it would be cool to have the option to make plans to play in a tourney scheduled more than 2 hours out, given both you & your partner are on the web version of bbo. If i am wrong about this restriction, please let me know about it. Thanks to all bbo staff for all suggestions you view/consider/implement. tony stack
  9. This is the correct behavior. In ALL bbo tournaments, results for each board are obtained by comparing the result of ALL tables that played the board. So, if you had say 2 sections of 11 tables, it will be scored as a 22 table game, a top of 21, not 2 tops of 10 (10% for beating a pair)). Thus for perfect scoring, would need 21 tables (top 20, or 5% for beating a pair). I would be cool if bbo allowed TD's to specify thiier section sizes, and determine if any of the sections should be combined. As is allowed in ACBL land live tournies/club games :).
  10. Tony Stack: Do you remember who partner was, when this happened, and who the tourney host was ? Tourney was Lion and Lamb, Partner was catalin1, Tourney host was Annc8, and when logged out of tony stack via network problem (in bbo flash) and logged back in, it still said I was registered to play in tourney with catalin1, but had "register to play" button displaying, and couldnt do anything with it. When tourney started, our partnership didn't enter tourney and no message like , player busy in tourney, or registration withdrawn came to my account.
  11. I suggest an option on tourneys to allow the directors of tourney a authority to undo the bidding/play at a given table by simply clicking the "undo" button, as is allowed by the teacher at a teaching table. It is intended that this option be seperate from the "allow undos" check box. Tourneys have the option to: only accept undos if a director has been to table and allows it, Or tourney could allow players, and directors to accept undos , allow players (only) to undo, or absolutly forbid undos.
  12. Hi all, I am td and have tested a few of the features on new version. I have found that you can: get director calls, chat to tourney, accept director calls, and get messages about missing players. You cannot however: chat to any tourney table, set up a tourney, perform substitutions/board adjustments. When signing up for a tourney, if you log off, and log back in, it says you are registered to play in tourney with your partner, has "register to play" button displayed (cant do anything with that tourney anymore), from partners point of view, you are not registered and tourneys starts without them. Tourney registration cannot be achieved if person on old version asks and a person from new version and accepts (can be done vice versa). I use Windows XP operating system and am looking forward to seeing web version of bbo :).
  13. The reason why I made fewer score compariosons a pro was becuase you would be playing more of the pairs that you are being compared against. My plan when I run an 11 table section (tourney) is to have 5 or 6 rounds, that way a pair will play nearly half of the people in their opposing direction, as opposed to a tourney having 30+ tables, where they would play only 1 out of 6 of their opposing pairs. But I can now see how it could be as a con as well. If a board has an unusual result (say 3ntxx-2) , everyone else who played that board in the field may get a good/bad score, espicially if the scoring format is imps (the effect is not so bad in matchpoint scoring). Thanks for your response Gerban :).
  14. I currently direct Goulash Tournies on bbo, ranging from 6 to 101 tables in attendence. I have come up with an idea that my tournies might be more fun to the particapants, and more managible to direct if I split them into seperate, smaller size tournies, starting at nearly the same time (ex: rather than one tournament running with 44 tables playing, four tournaments running with 11 tables playing in each). I have thought up of some pros and cons to running my tournaments in this way and I would be grateful if you TD's/admin members could tell me if I missed any ;). Pros: 1. Players playing in the tournament would get their board results compared only against the people that are in thier section (BBO automatically places a tourney that has many tables into sections, but a players board result is determined by how everyone in the tournament played the board, not just the people in thier section of the tourney.). 2. TD's could be set up to run the tournament, with the ability to direct for only a certain number of sections/tables (just as bbo allows now, you can choose who you want to help TD your tournament for you, But the software does not allow you to specify what sections in the tourney, that a director can direct, a director can get calls from anywhere in the tourney). Cons: 1. TD's directing multiple sections (multiple tourneys in other words) would have to run from tournament to tornament subbing and adjusting scores for both tournies (running from tournament to tournament will take time to do and would drop the number of tables a TD could otherwise manage). 2. Players may get frustrated because your first tourney (section) is full and may not signup for your second (third, forth,etc...) linked tourney. Thanks in advance to the admin team, for your time in reading and thinking about both this, and all other issues we write on the forums. Tone Stack.
  15. I know that on BBO you can currently view all of the board played by any player. I suggest that this concept be extended by allowing the TD to view the results of any single board at every table in the tournament (or it may be more appropriate to view the results of the board played by all tables of a single tourney section). That way it is easier for the TD to determine what results were obtained at the other tables and if a bid caused significant damage to the opposition or not. I want to hear what the other TD's and admin members of BBO think about this suggestion.
  16. Situation: Acbl pairs (scoring: imps) tourney starts with an odd number of teams. Acbl TD is disconnected from BBO for about 20 minutes. Sitout’s are filled with real people during round 2. One of those real people is me. I play round 2 of the acbl tournament and then look at the score from previous boards. Round 1 boards show a score of -3 imps a piece. I call TD and ask for board adjustment to Ave (since our pair was occupied with sitouts during round 1, I think it unfair for the automatically assigned A -- result to stand , I believed it should be Ave==). TD is unable to view the board history for our pair (we were not present in round 1, sitouts were there) and is unable to adjust the board for our pair. I asked TD to try adjusting the board for the opponents to A==. Acbl TD says she was able to adjust their score successfully (but no adjustment message appeared at our table). So I told the TD that the score should then have been adjusted for our side as well based on what she had done already and that I would check at the end of the tourney to see if it was. At the end of the tourney, the first two boards still had -3 imps and the results from the tourney leader board reflected that (-28.62 imps on the leader board compared to -28.7 imps totaled from the bridge movie). The 6 imp difference in this case did not damage the field in any way (the same people who actually won MP’s still won what they were supposed to). But I am afraid that if the situation above happens again (sitouts not replaced in round 1), the field could be damaged by what the software is doing and therefore, the software should be fixed. Therefore: I believe that BBO is currently unable to adjust a board from an ave- for a substitute pair (but is able to adjust it for the pair that opposed the sitout pair) if the substitute pair was occupied by sitout pairs for the round in which the board being adjusted was (not) played.
  17. I suggest that bbo implement a program to automatically unregister subs who have been logged off of bbo (for say 1 minutes time) or subbed into a tourney, from any tourneys sub list on bbo.
  18. I was wondering how the software determines how many and how big each section is. I once ran a tourney with one section of 29 Tables. But I have seen tourneys with 20 Tables (ACBL) divided into 2 sections. Is there any way to adjust how many sections, or how big one section in a tourney can be?
  19. Would it be possible to give the Creator of a team match (host) the option to allow chat to the tournament. Just as the the TD who creates a regular tourney has this option. This feature would be helpul to organizations such as the Zoners team ladder. In that ladder's rules, it specifies that a member from the team (tony stack for example) has the right to play in the team match, even if the other players of the team start the team match with a sub playing in tony stack's place. tony stack logs into the site, and wants to play the remainder of the match with his partner, tony stack has no way of contacting anyone involved in the team match to request the sub to be taken out. I Thank everyone in advance for the time they spend in considering this issue and all other issues on the forum. Keep up the great suggestions (especially yellows/admin) :D
  20. I noticed that you can register for a tourney or you are allowed to look for a partner from the comfort of a main bridge club table. The software, however, does not allow someone to register as a substitute for a tourney that is in progress. If it is not too hard to implement, could you make the software allow this as well? Thank you Fred, Uday, and the rest of the yellows for all you do ;))
  21. I cant believe so many people take every tourney seriously, it is like thier life depends on winning the tourney, and they will do whatever it takes to win it(bug TD'S, bug Yellows if this dont work, then bug abuse if that dont work) Bridge is just a CARD game you play for FUN. People playing on bbo today dont play for that. This is why the issue has become SO important! The job of a Yellow Member is to Answer questions its users have and to Promote a fun enviroment to play bridge in.As well as making Improvements to bbo in order to better meet these objectives(I.E. Making Tourneys possible,Building the translater so everyone can understand what people are saying in their own laguages...etc) Not Making Score Adjustments in tourneys, subbing players,Canceling Tourneys without a TD...etc. However a Tourney with a non-playing director does not have to be limited to a certain Number of Pairs/Players, but You Put that in the tourney description box or in the rules of the tournament with something like"Read the tourney rules before you sign up to play or sub in this tourney" in the tournament description box. If this is a Big issue to everyone on bbo, I Recommend that the yellows do their job by adding functionality (the "Playing Tourney Director" check box on the Tourney creation screen, along with a popup window that is displayed to every player just after they have registered for the tourney saying something like "This Tourney will only have Playing Directors, There Might not be ANY Adjustments made by the TD's, No Yellows will Interfere with the Progression of This Tourney in any way!")
  22. I think that bbo should allow teams(four players) of three to be able to compete and at the end of the match show what place each team got, this would allow true KO tourneys to be manually created by TD's(aka roundrobins), and I think many people would enjoy this:))
  23. When I created a tourney on bbo to start in exactly 10 hours, then came back a few minutes later, it still read 10 hours, then after I logged out for a few hours, the tourney clock started to count down from when I logged out(I think)
  24. another bug, when you go to a table in a tourney that has completed the round, then go to another table which they are still playing a board, the round clock says the round is complete
  25. I belive that bbo should change their software to allow unbalanced scores to be awarded to each side to fit the laws of duplicate contract bridge(ie North - South gets +620 (the score they would of most likely gotton had the irregularity not occured) and East - West gets -650 (an extra penalty for not aleting the bid). I also think that after the tables finish playing their last board, the players should be excused from the table but that all tables remain up so that the director can review movies from the last round and adjust scores if applicable (I believe the review time should be about 15 minutes), then the scores should be posted and left to hang for the same amount of time as before. Do you agree with my reasons??
