  1. Online is fine for lessons. Mainly want to see where i really am and how to get better. Looking for a live pard in Los Angeles also
  2. I learned when I was 34 (about 4 years ago) I was generally bored with computer games and other activities, so I decided to to take up bridge. After 1 year, I moved away from it, not sure why actually, just lost interest. I never found anything close to a permenant partner, let along a temporary one. Just started playing again after a 3 year hiatus, and I am loving it again. Trying to fine my bridge books I pack a while back and oil away the rust. Next step is to find a real pd here in LA.
  3. I cant believe this hasnt been said, lots of times. Well done on the Cavendish... Thought I must say, the picture of you and Brad is a little frightening. NOt sure why, but it has that serial killer/wino look to it. :) Again, well done
  4. Had the same issues with claims and "stuck hands", but only when I was the host. Will keep you informed. Also, have the minutes countdown in the tournament area seems a little silly. 2000 minutes B)
  5. Yes, they are. If you go the the VuGraph theater it gives the dates there!! Mat 7th-11th
  6. Cue 4D also can work. Good temporizing bid and partner will figure it out hopefiully.
  7. SAYC, 4C in the first seat white vs red. 3C equal or unfavored. 2nd seat - 1C. or even better Precision 2C The reason for the differences is that I believe preempts show happen more in the 1st seat, than the 2nd. In the 2nd seat there is a good change that your partner has the points and your preempt would impede your auction. In the 1st seat, more probability of impedeing the opps auction. But, your mileage may vary.
  8. After looking at things and hearing others, I get the distinct feeling that most "advanced" precision systems are generally changes and additions to the base foundation that a partnership decides. For instance, they decide that a treatment doesnt work, so they modify it or bolt on another piece. So the real trick then is to gain enough experience to figure out for yourself where the system falls apart for your partnership, then add parts there. Seems that was the idea the Dwayne used to build KLP. right, wrong or still ignorant? BTW (Peter and I are gonna pester the hell out of you all for a while :))
  9. OK, so far ic... Then since MOSCITO uses a strong club how does it fit into the picture?
  10. Actually, I know this much...Scary I think. I am looking for for characteristics of specific types of Precision. Basic Precision. Symmetric relays (is this the same as transfer based?) Other strong club systems. Also, what makes the strong clubs different in 100 worrds or less :o
  11. Well, it isnt really daily, but it does qualify for interesting reading and interesting hands. http://www.godofthemachine.com/bridge/gee.html Note that the protaganist of this work generally appears on another bridge site, but can be found on BBO on occasion. To gain an additional insight into some of the quips and comments though, it may be necessary to read the Hard Archive from the beginning. This way you will become familiar with the terms STCPTM, Bones Double, and many others. Please note that I do not endorse this site not the evil person who maintains it. I am simply attempting to educate.
  12. Hey do you live in or around LA and want a partner? I am looking for someone to play with. I prefer someone who is looking to learn a strong club system (like I am), and someone that is not currently a gadget freak. We can become gadgfet freaks together and learn how, when and why to use them correctly :) I have been playing for 1 year. I play SAYC and am learning 2/1 and precision. I make mistakes, but i always try to learn from them and become a better player.
  13. Hi Again All.... First a big thanx to everyone who helped on the first thread. I have a pecision book (Berkowitz) , read it twice, and am beginning practice. The reason for learning "basic precision" is to begin to understand non-standard systems. I plan to continue to learn and evolve into more complex systems. So in an effort to learn more about what I dont even know, I am trying to determine how best to gain a much deeper knowledge of precision and other systems. 1) After reading more about precision and the ilk, it seems that there are nearly hundreds of treatments. Is there a general classification that they fall under. 2) Likewise is there a general classification that other strong club systems fall under. It seems to me the MOSCITO is similar to Precision. It could also be that I dont know enought to see the difference :) 3) Finally, it seems that the real issue with all of this is the partnership. Meaning that I do notthink I have ever seen an "instant" partnership decide to play precision. All comments are welcome, even those about bananas :o, because I want to undertand the various systems that are out there and the associated strengths.
  14. Let me know if you want, I am learning it as well!!!
  15. Tons of places.
