Because if I was given a visible notice, perhaps with a sound, or anything more than an easily missed box at the corner of the screen, I would not suddenly find myself logged off of a tournament that I paid for, with no way to reconnect. It;s not just me. Customers have been asking for this for a very long time. Do you not understand the request?
-
I just got suddenly logged off again today. Thanks BBO.
-
I've not seen a popup in express tournaments. Just a small, easy to miss, box in the lower right. Then suddenly, one is logged out completely with no way to rejoin, or even watch, the play. Nothing that catches attention. No audio warning sound.
-
All I am asking is that BBO give me an audible or clear Visual warning before suddenly completely logging me off in express tournaments. Not a complicated request....
-
I don't understand... Time is time, in whatever game. When time is running out, a warning isn't hard!
-
Do suggestions here ever prompt changes?
-
Getting booted out is a major disappointment. Playing in express tournaments I frequently get logged out while considering a difficult bid or play. Racing to quickly act does not promote good bridge. Some sort of audible warning would be a great improvement. I clearly am not alone in this as I notice that by the time an express tournament finishes, 1/3 to 1/2 of the hands are played by robots. Online poker sites all have audible warnings, which works very well.

Express Tournaments Sunned Logoff
OldPlayr replied to OldPlayr's topic in Suggestions for the Software
An audio warning would be helpful. Easy to miss the visual warning. -
Playing in express tournaments, I often find myself logged off while thinking about a bid or play. Upon logging in, I find that I cannot return to the tournament. There should better warning before logoff. Also, the ability to rejoin after returning.

Traveller 86629-1665080101-87306044

In reviewing a traveller from a recent tournament I see two instances where the bidding was identical, but the robot led a different suit in each case. Randomness in lead choices?
-
Would you prefer that they use a chat tool outside of BBO? I suspect that outside chat is not uncommon on BBO.
-
A robot is the perfect partner - keeps it's mouth shut and just plays.
-
Play with robots. They have good manners and never seem to complain.

I guess that I'll just live without it working. Chrome is the only browser that I have (in Linux), as Firefox will not run BBO due to Flash problems. Choice of browser should not matter to an application, if the application is standards compliant. Perhaps when BBO replaces use of Flash, such problems will go away.
-
Good that it works for you...it doesn't work for me. It once did work. I use Chrome as my only browser.

While I'm in the tourney screen. After I leave the tourney, there is no longer a "my results" window.... I can see results for other tables on any hand, but the bidding and play is not available. Bidding and play is available for my own table. This used to work, but seemed to have changed in the past few months.
-
Playing robot duplicate, I cannot view bidding or play for other tables in the "my Results" tab. I can see results, but not the bid or play.

Matching by skill or "rating" is one dimension. Matching by basic bidding system is another. Both may have merit, however I see matching by basic bidding system as a feature that would be much easier to implement and result is a quick win in customer satisfaction. Skill discussions have always seemed to diverge on concept and solution. That is a much harder one to solve to the satisfaction of a large audience.

Good to learn that BBO may improve HMFAG. Clearly that is a challenging task. My thoughts would be to start simple and improve incrementally over time. Unlikely that an attempt to make everyone happy in the first version will succeed. A good first step would be to modify user profiles to allow specification of a very general bidding system played (ACOL, SAYC, Precision, etc.). Not a lot of detail or gadgets in the first version. See how simple matching by basic bidding system works. It would go a long way toward better partner matching. Obviously, this will help only those who take the time to edit their profile to specify budding system(s) played. Adding basic bidding systems to profiles is a big enough step for a first version. If this works and is catches on with a sufficient number of users, subsequent versions can expand and refine profiles to be more specific on gadgets and bidding options. One could envision very detailed profiles that enable partner matching, but an incremental path toward that seems more prudent and manageable. After a long career in information technology, I recognize that coming up with suggestions is a lot easier that coding them! :D

Given that HMFAG is widely seen as useless, why is BBO not interested in making even minor improvements to that function?
-
You may be a big over-defensive... or reading a lot more into the suggestion. There are simple improvements to the find a table function that would yield significant improvements. Simply letting one specify a basic bidding system (not including "all your pet tweaks") would be a significant improvement over the current random table selection. Perfect is the enemy of better.
-
Sad, but true. Despite many suggestions over the years, BBO has shown no interest in improving the useless "find me a table" function. This prevents many, including myself, from playing in the main room. Unable to get paired with players using the same bidding system, I use BBO now only for playing in robot tournaments. With work to set up a partner matching function based on bidding system, BBO could be a lot more than it is today.
-
There is such great potential for an improved "find a table" function, where one could specify the bidding system to be played. It has been suggested many times, but BOO seems to have no interest in improving the current function, which drops one at a random table.

Bidding discussion over the table while in the auction
OldPlayr replied to Geoff103's topic in General BBO Discussion
I don't think that anything can be done about comments. In online bridge, players can (and do) use skype or messaging to share information outside of the BBO session. This goes on in all online gaming, not just BBO. It has a lot more impact in online poker for money stakes. One has to just accept it, or not play online.
